The table did feel quite cramped though for such a large group as we were set downstairs next to another booth - may be nice to have a large table separate for special occasions. The staff were accommodating in weaving in and around the sleeping baby too which was kind of them. Everyone's food orders came out with great timing and no one had any gripes. Such large portions for the meals and everything tasted as if it'd been cooked fresh! I opted for the seafood platter (normally a sharing appetiser) which had a lovely selection of smoked salmon, prawn cocktail, scampi and sweet chilli prawns. Would've been good to have some bread/oat cakes served with it to serve e.g. the smoked salmon onto. One issue may have been the fact the waiter asked my Granda 3 times if he was finished with his dinner. Now it was clear he wasn't as he had loads left and infact had the fork up to his mouth. The servers at times were a bit pushy to clear the table but a bit of consideration, especially of older clientele wouldn't have gone a miss. That being said, I can't wait to return to try some more of the menu as you really are spoiled for choice here!

Topped off with slow and brusque service, I would not recommend. Had been trying out this place for lunch with a view to bringing a large party at Christmas time as we live locally but will now look at a different venue.

The front area is seated and would be nice on a sunny day. There is a large function area forwards the back of the building which can be hired. The pub advertised live music at the weekend.

We had been out at local parks, attractions and DIY stores and on way home, decided to stop into a wee gem I had visited in the past with mum. The Twisted Thistle is in the middle of Old Kilpatrick and area of the village appears shabby but the TT is a modern bar/diner located in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge. The interior is very modern and kitchen is open where food prep can be viewed. It has a mix of tables for usual covers and open area with couches for bar adjacent for relaxed vibe. Both were reasonably busy but not overly so. Originally we ate here on a previous occassion as the Lusset ( a former old haunt) didn't do food any more - and sad to say it was very, very run down. However, that was to our benefit once we relocated to the TT. This trip around it was a late lunch / early dinner. I opted for chicken goujons and chilli dip with steak ciabatta as mains. Missus had the soup n sandwich deal. Our youngsters opted for the kids menu with soup and fish n chips for the wee fella and burger for the youngest lass. All were very happy with speed of service, quality of food and we all had a taste of each others grub. Every one agreed on very good value/taste and quality of meals as well as over all service. For me, the goujons were light and crispy and dip was very aromatic - not too sweet and not too spicy. The steak sandwich was cheapest on mains menu (typically tight) but the roll came with chunky steak sliced with onions and cheese. The ends were a little dry but the middle was moist and tasty. Potentially a little expensive for the location but the OK bunch do fancy themselves as a bit up market :) and it was reflected in the high quality of both grub and surroundings. The ambience for a quite quiet day was really good with some ladies lunching in the comfy seats and some lads propping up the bar area all lending to a good atmosphere. The place is very clean including the rest areas. Unknown to me from the previous visit, I spotted that there is a great function area to the rear, so family events could be catered for too - a nice option to learn about. I would like to visit on a weekend evening to check it out then as it's close enough to home to have a relaxed night out and not need to worry about an extended trek home. Plenty of upcoming events with music / DJ advertised such as Hallowe'en, etc. so another reason to nip down on a weekend and TV monitor was on wall with sound down so may be a good spot for watching any big games? In summary; reasonably priced when quality of experience is accounted for. Very very easily the top spot for eats in the Clydebank area. Great big thumbs up. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186534-d7660613-r319907892-The_Twisted_Thistle-Glasgow_Scotland.html#

The Coach House Inn

It certainly looks great from the outside, an old-fashioned village inn that looks well cared for, the kind of place that you'd imagine serving traditional food under oak rafters, and in front of a roaring log fire. Well it isn't quite that internally, but it's not bad, I can't comment much cos we ended up in the public bar where the screens were. The waitress said she'd come and serve us shortly, so we went in and I headed to the bar and immediately had an "uh-oh" moment when I was told the only tap beer on out of all the taps was Tennents, and that we'd have to pay cash. No panic though, it turns out the hotel has just been taken over so they were still sorting out some of the logistics, and then woohoo, my mate offered to pay for the whole meal! Quality! So a quick look at the menu confirmed it was indeed a traditional pub, burgers, pies, fish and chips etc. We started watching the rugby, and after a longish wait we got to order. We all went for the classic burger option. They came quickly enough once ordered, and were not too shabby. The burgers were a decent size, clearly made on premise and were really tasty, topped as they were with an onion ring and gherkins...and that's my one complaint, too much gherkin on them. I can handle them thinly sliced but not in this quantity. I don't like gherkins much, but I took mine and passed them to someone who does, and to be honest the gherkin juice left did add something to the taste of my burger. The chips were really nicely cooked as well. Good, honest, hearty food. I would definitely recommend this place for traditional pub grub if you're passing.

There seemed to be an event on in the main room but the waiting staff were helpful and quickly accommodated our tired-out group of five. Most of our group were vegetarians or vegans, but we all managed to quickly find food to suit our diets, and none disappointed. The macaroni cheese was as hearty and healthily portioned as you could hope from a countryside pub, and I'm told the lentil soup went down well too. We all washed down our lunches with the tasty house ale on-tap. The prices were very reasonable, with a 2 course lunchtime offer for under £10 and a more extensive and interesting dinner time menu featuring goats cheese beignets and duck confit. All in all, this place was clean, friendly, and a far cry from the dated pub grub we were expecting before our trek back to the city, and it seemed a shame to leave it without a presence on Yelp! Should you find yourself heading west (only a short train from Glasgow Queen Street) this is a perfect place to stop in for a tasty pint and some good quality food.
