"Stupid beer" is the mass-marketed domestic, watery, flavorless crap most often offered at nearly every other blasted bar. Oh, no; If I want a super-hopped IPA, I can get it. An oatmeal stout? NO PROBLEM. Perhaps a porter, or maybe a craft brew? They have it. It is a beer oasis in a sea of swill.

The prices are phenomenal, and the apple pie shots are pretty darn delicious. The bartender on shift when we went in, Leah (I don't know how to spell her name, but that's how she pronounced it lol), was so much fun! She enjoyed herself and engaged with everyone in there without overindulging or breaking the rules. She has a great personality and definitely made our experience there far more enjoyable. They do not have a kitchen anymore, so there are no food options, unfortunately. But everything else definitely makes it worth it. There are also gambling machines for those who enjoy that as well as a pool table.

While plum-sized potato dumplings cooked in ham broth doesn't really push my boundaries in the ethnic foods department, this Norwegian food is a large part of the persona of this little town. And the crowds here indicate that. The legion will serve between 200-250 in the two hours they are serving. Word is around town that this is the best example of this dish you are going to find and for $7 bucks I'd encourage anyone to put it to the test. You'll get all-you-can-eat kumla dumplings and shredded ham, canned green beans, roll and apple sauce. It's the hearty meal that built this town in central Iowa. Well worth a visit to try this Scandinavian oddity. As per my previous review, there's still a comfortable full-service bar in the basement of this place and it's open to the public. There's great help, and good people in here.
