Now, Buxton ain't but a couple of families bigger than 300 population. It's one of the smaller towns that hugs the I-29 corridor between Fargo and Grand Forks. The thing about these tiny Dakota towns is that if you're prospectin' for some vittles, you can strike gold more times than not.
Buxton got itself a little gold rush goin' with the BarN & Grill.
Buxton's BarN & Grill is a conspicuous fixture along that downtown street called Broadway. Just like Buxton's sister city of Manhattan, you are bound to find digs that'll set your appetite right on ol' Broadway. It may come as a surprise to some city slickers that the BarN & Grill got itself a country motif that makes it look like a red barn. It's a level-headed decision as the red barn is quite visible from many places in town. Diagonal parking'll keep you hitchin' up your ride like the ol' days. Dust off your boots and pull up a stool.
Immediately noticeable inside the BarN & Grill is the sheer size of this stately saloon. I suspect every resident of Buxton could fit inside. I envision live music, a dance floor, and smorgasbord offerings... I'd make another trip for that!
My trusty sidekick and I sauntered in off the dusty trail to grab a bite. There was a solo tapper keeping the drinks flowin' and he moved like a man on a mission. He pulled us a couple teetotaller specials and threw a couple gazettes at us. I was pleased to see that the prices were right in line with expectations. I decided to set up with some jalapeno poppers and the Haystack quarter-pounder with waffle fries. My buddy settled on a burger with a little more kick.
I gotta tell ya... what I got was pleasantly not exactly what I ordered. I got the Haystack, but ol' cookie, in the kitchen, musta peeked out the door and seen a couple healthy lookin' appetites, cuz he pattied up a couple burgers that had to been north o'clock of the 1/3rd pound. He knows his grill, too. That hash slinger wasn't wearing wet boots, that's for sure. My burger came out with a crispy brown outside and a top-tier, 5-star Michelin medium inside. Add to that the hash browns as golden as any prospector could dream of.
I cannot see anyone being disappointed at BarN & Grill as long as that mess hall master is spinnin' spatulas! C'mon!
The service was great, the food was great, the price was great. All in all, The BarN & Grill was a great find. A delicious, custom grilled burger delivered hot and sizzlin' with a generous side of tater and a drink PLUS the IRS cut in exchange for a Hamilton with a pocket of change? Not too many places can hook an Hombre up for such a reasonable tab.
Listen, when you find a place that does it like the BarN & Grill, you gotta keep your charitabilities in range, got it? This place don't ask you to pony up too much of your daily pannings. If you found yourself in any other saloon, you'd be peelin' off an additional rail-splitter for the same grub. BarN & Grill got a runner whose heart is for the cowboy. Do this guy a solid and drop a couple extra flakes in his sluice. Buxton is a classic small town and the residents need a bolsterin'. If you feel like rounding up to your regular dinner budget, you are goona be a hero to the people who tend the fires, c'mon! If you can afford to play, you can afford to pay. Show 'em some love! Be awesome!
