Didn't know what to expect, but my wife thought I would enjoy it, so here we are with our culinary skills we learned from our mothers, fathers, and grandparents. We are Midwest steak and potatoes people going to a French cooking class. I will tell you the chefs could not have made the night any more enjoyable. We were put to ease the minute we entered the store with a warm welcome. Everything was explained in great detail, work stations were stocked with ingredients, recipes, and with a quick tour of the kitchen we were cooking. Always willing to help, demonstrate, and dig in when you just weren't sure and removed any anxiety. The food turned out amazing. I recommend this experience to everyone, even if you burn water. read more

I took a knife skills class here last year. It was just okay. The majority of the time was spent cooking, which was fun, but I was hoping for more information about knife care, such as cleaning and sharpening with a traditional sharpener and a stone, as well as more practice chopping, slicing, dicing, correctly etc. Because so much of the class was taken up by cooking a meal with your partner, the "instructional" portion of the class felt rushed and sparse. It was more like a general cooking class and there wasn't much time for slow practice or individual review/instruction for knife skills and habits. I also felt like a significant portion of time was a pitch for Cutco knives (the MLM), which I didn't really like. The instructional staff members were all friendly. It was fun to meet and chat with new people and also nice to share a big meal at the end. Overall, I thought it was a fun activity, but not a very educational one. I really didn't learn anything new and I probably wouldn't go to another course. The knife kills class would be really great if you were a relative beginner or if you were just looking for a fun activity to do with a partner or group. If you're a relatively experienced home cook, you probably won't learn much. read more

Love love love The Cookery!!! I cannot even begin to say enough good things. We took the Skinny Chicken and Cocktails class tonight and it was fantastic! Fresh, quality food and the recipes were all unique and delicious. Amanda was a fabulous teacher. The setup is organized, but relaxed. You learn techniques, but it all happens organically as things come up, so it isn't scripted or at all dull. Setup is great and you get such a variety of experiences in a short time. The price point is right on, the kitchens are spotless, and the food is top notch. I will definitely be back!!! What a hidden gem in Morton!!! read more

During my engagement process I researched a lot of different places for catering. I was very exciting at the competitive prices that From the Field offered. I contacted the owner over the phone and he was extremely friendly and willing to help. He asked about all of the details of our wedding and price point that I wanted to stick around. We threw around some ideas and he said that he would put together a menu. He then asked me to come into the school to meet with him the following week. I was once again pleased at how prompt he seemed to be. Here is when it all went downhill. I went to meet, expecting a couple of different menu options and price quotes. Well I arrived and we sat down (he was still friendly as can be) but he proceeded to ask my name, date of wedding etc and jot it down on a blank piece of paper. Then we literally had the same conversation that I had with him the week before. I was shocked and felt that I had completely wasted my time. Still considering using them though because I liked some of the ideas he had. At the end of our meeting, he said he would get me a quote within 2-3 days. It is now 3 weeks later and still no quote. Needless to say I will not be using him due to his lack of follow-up and seemingly unorganized way of doing business. read more
