I have used the services twice now, I had a pair of Merrell boots that I wore the soles down and also the back heel insert area. otherwise the condition of the boots were great. it would've been a waste to throw them away and buy new boots for $100+. I called to find out more information and arranged a drop off. less than a week I went back and picked up my boots. they were perfect and I'd expect to get at least 2 more years out of them. I also had a pair of old real Australian Uggs. these were purchased long before the name was sold to a Chinese manufacturer and the quality went down, and the price went up. the sole started to separate from the bottom of the boot. I took them in and I had a complete sole replacement. The boots themselves may be stained and dirty, but the soles are nice and new. I originally purchased these for after diving to warm my feet up, not to prance about downtown La Jolla to be a fashionista . if you have any shoes that are in need of some TLC stop by and let Humberto take a look and see if he can restore them. read more

I came here because of the high reviews after my favorite cobbler moved all the way to National City. I dropped off a pair of Valentino shoes to have the heel replaced and thought it was a bit unusual that they required payment upfront but I went ahead with it. I hate to write a mediocre review for a business that actually does good work, but the customer service of this business' Saturday store-minder leaves me little choice. I dropped by the store on Saturday morning early in January and I asked the woman behind the counter if they could restore a pair of Mephistos that are daily go-tos. (Honestly, they were not in bad shape, but since I wear them almost every weekday I figured they could look a little better.) She didn't know how much to charge me, which I thought was unusual both because she worked in the store, and because I am used to paying for items like dry cleaning when I pick them up. She had to call the owner, and the owner apparently told her viente ($20.00 in Spanish). After she got off the phone, she told me $40.00. I reluctantly paid in advance, but when I gave her $100.00 bill, she couldn't make change, which forced me to put this transaction on a credit card. I asked her when the shoes would be ready. She said next Saturday. No problem, even though she charged me twice the price her boss conveyed on the phone. The next Saturday when I showed up to pick up the shoes at 9:27 AM, no one was in the store. I double-checked the store's posted hours, and it indicated they open at 9:30 AM on Saturday. I waited, and waited, and was tempted to walk away because I felt that they might be waiting for me to do so before opening the store. Finally, at 9:45 AM the same woman who attended me came in and opened the store. I told her I was here to pick up my shoes, and she told me she had no idea where they might be. Then she told me she had to call the store's owner to try to locate them, but that I should return later. And I said when? At 3:29 PM when you close. After a fair amount of confusion (at one point she told me she wasn't sure the shoes were ready) and talking to the owner, she located the shoes. However, in talking to the owner she told him that este señor esta de mal caracter (this guy is in a bad mood). Her problem was that she didn't think this jewboy (ME) speaks Spanish, so I had to set her straight. I told her in Spanish I merely came down to pick up my shoes today because she told me they would be ready on Saturday. As the rest of the conversation took place in Spanish, her demeanor changed. (When she told me she wasn't sure the shoes would be ready, I told her they had the shoes for an entire week, I didn't think they would need more time to shine them up.) After a frantic search, she found them. She then told me she needed to apply water repellent, which I thought was strange. I told her they probably didn't need them, but she grabbed a bottle from the display gave them both 2-3 very SHORT squirts, and place the bottle back on the display for anyone that might want to buy a FULL bottle of water repellent. Again it pains me to write a mediocre review for a small business that actually does good work, but no one deserves abusive customer service. read more

I scored some awesome Christian Louboutins at an amazing price that were in mint condition aside from the requisite paint coming off under the toe box! Gotta love consignment stores! Humberto is my go-to guy for shoe and handbag repair so rather than get them repainted the classic red, he suggested I get red rubber soles instead to help me prevent slipping and to give my shoes better grip. I agreed wholeheartedly as I figured the paint would just come off again the minute I walked in them, lol. It only took three days before I had them in my hot little hands again at a reasonable price. His work is always flawless and turnaround time is quick. This review is on repairing designer handbags. I spilled nail polish inside one of my handbags and I did not expect them to be able to wash that off. To my surprise, the bag came back as if it were new! I wish I took a before and after photo. The repair was not cheap and it did take a couple of weeks to do. When I found out this place a couple of years ago, I was very hesitant. I have a well loved Chanel bag from 2002-2003 and it needed to be re-dyed, I was afraid of my bag being completely ruined and not being able to use it again so it took me a couple of years to bring myself to have it dyed. I came in a couple of weeks ago and the Humberto wasn't there, but someone else tagged my bag for repair and I was contacted that it would be a little more which was ok. They called again to let me know my bag was ready for pick up 2 days before promised! I was at work so I couldn't pick it up, but I did the following Monday, I got my bag back and looks as good as ever!! This bag is no longer gray in color, but has a beautiful lush black finish, the scratches and scrapes in the leather are no longer visible. Pretty disappointed. Brought in shoes for a repair, was told they would re stitch the sole-boot seams and reinforce/fix the worn heel and they could be ready in time for a trip I was taking in a few days. They told me the price for the repairs, I paid for their proposed repair and left my shoes with them. I called on the day they said it would be ready and they told me it would take to the end of the day and that they wouldn't do the heel reinforcement because the stitching would require something they didn't originally plan on doing. Now they're quoting me a price that is more than I paid originally to purchase the shoes. Essentially, every conversation I've had with them seems to be them trying to see how much they can charge me before I decide to go elsewhere. I eventually decided to just pick up my shoes and get a refund. I can't actually speak to the quality of their work because they never actually did any, but they managed to waste a huge amount of my time. Overall a very frustrating experience. read more

They made me wait 5 days for my shoes and when I got there hadn't even done them, there was still a stain on them. The guy saw this when he tried to give them back to me and was like oh, wait 5 min. Took them in the back and started working on them right there. So basically I could've just waited 5 min instead of 5 days, and I paid $20 for this supposed "shampoo" of my shoes Then in the middle of it he comes out to help another customer. Recently I went on a business trip to Dallas and alongside my work cronies decided to 'dress up Dallas style' for a night on the town complete with cowboy boots, belt buckles and ten-gallon hats! I really don't like posting bad reviews but I have never been so upset before. I received a brand new pair of red bottoms as a gift about a month ago and since I didn't want to get them ruined, I decided to get some sole protectors on them. It was my mistake of not doing the research first but I honestly thought it would be something simple. I had no idea they had to sand down the red part and then repaint and glue the rubber part on to the bottom. Anyways, the cobber was extremely nice and he told me he could have them done in a few hours. When I received them, I was devastated. He totally butchered my brand new heels! The rubber part he glued on was all crooked and was showing, I saw all these scratches, he tried to repaint the black part and and it looked like a disaster. I was completely disgusted! I asked him why the plastic red rubber part was showing because if I knew that part was going to show, I would've never got them done from him! He told me that's how it's supposed to be done which is totally untrue. He took a photo of my heels before I picked them up and tried to tell me he has done red bottoms in the past and he had pics to show me. He tried looking through all these photos on his phone and said, "See? Here's one! It's the same one as yours that was done exactly the same way!" I laughed because he showed me a picture of my heels which had the same date and the same time. I told him I couldn't get over the fact the rubber part was cut unevenly and it was totally showing and left the store. After that, I did a little research and looked at the Louboutin website and they had a list of the repair shops they recommended. They recommended Pasquale's Shoe Repair in LA and the guy I'm dating told me we should drive up to LA to get them repaired. He drove me up to LA the next day and we dropped them off on the 9th but I still haven't received them because they told me it was messed up pretty bad and they had to replace the red leather where the old rubber was and then touch it up which cost us additional $100. Those heels cost over $1000's and to pay for the repair fee for a brand new pair of heels is just ridiculous. I am still upset about it because it's been a month and I haven't had the chance to wear them since its still being repaired. I may sound like a total spoiled brat but I am so upset about it that I don't even want them anymore. It feels like this place destroyed them and they will never look the same so why should I be excited to get them back? I cannot believe I didn't even get to wear them once since I received them! Thanks a lot for ruining them and making me drive back and forth to LA! This has been a total nightmare! read more
