Elks Lodge

Elks Lodge

I officiated a wedding at the Elks Lodge recently for a close family friend. At first glance, the…read morelodge does not look like the place you would have a fancy party, but there is so much potential if you have the time and patience to work with the venue. The views from the back of the lodge are breathtaking. There is an area where wedding ceremonies take place that looks out into the beautiful mountains. It really is gorgeous. The main hall is a nice size. You can easily fit 150 probably up to 250. I am not sure what the actual limit is. Or friend's wedding had just over 100 and there was a ton of room. During the rehearsal (3pm) and on the night of the wedding, there were deer that came down into the fields....so beautiful. The staff said they deer are regularly there every afternoon. The Food Our friend's wedding was buffet style and the food was good. We had a chicken Alfredo pasta, salad, mac and cheese, and bread service. There was a cash-only bar that according to my wife, had good drinks. The Staff The only member of the staff that I worked with was Linda. She was amazing and was so patient with our party. I believe she is one of the head members at the Elk's club, and she really just tried to make the best out of every situation on the day of the wedding. We had a few schedule issues that came up and she did great working with all the different personalities. Overall, depending on the vibe you are looking for with your event, the Elks Lodge is a good choice. There is a ton of parking, the offer food and all of the table and chair rentals are included.

We stopped by for tacos and a drink and ended up coming back the next night. Fabio is an Amazing…read morebartender. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We've never stopped in to this bar on other visits to Flag. But the large, brightly lit "cocktails"…read moresign called us in this time. This divey little cocktail bar is located down a red hall of the Monte Vista Hotel. The hotel has a fancier bar called Rendezvous, but sometimes you just want a stiff drink in a very unassuming spot. The Monte V cocktail lounge can do that. Loud punk music playing in the background and an older group of people in the bar. It was early like 8:30 or so, I can't say how busy this place gets, there's a large room in the back that apparently used to have a pool table. I think they might have live music sometimes back there. Bartender was friendly, I think he said Steve was his name. He said he makes his old fashioned with the sugar cube still which isn't done by many, it's kind of old timey or divey but it works. It's closer to the original recipe he said. I saw he had a bottle of Luxardo, which is a maraschino cherry spirit, and I have a bottle at home but never know what to make or have enough things so I asked him to make me something with it, he opted for a last word since his bar had green chartreuse. Gin, luxardo, chartreuse, and lime make this lovely cocktail. Our drinks were great and at $12 each, a spirit forward deal! I would definitely come back and have another round of drinks here. This is not a fancy place and I didn't read the other reviews but I have no reason not to give 5 stars, it's a good dive bar that I enjoyed.

This was my first visit to the Verde Valley archaeology center, and I was truly amazed! I was…read morehoping to see artifacts from the immediate vicinity at this location and was not disappointed! The center has been here for 15 years and exists primarily to display artifacts recovered from a single site in the area. This is extremely rare as most sites have been pillaged by pot hunters over the last 100+ years, and this site was privately owned and protected for many decades. I was honored to received what was basically a private tour of the facility by the executive director Monica Buckle. She took her time and provided much detail to give an excellent overview of this facility. Thank you so much Monica! The entire Verde Valley area is a much overlooked archaeology gem in the history of our country & this facility champions the learning and understanding of this unique place. If you're ever in the area, I strongly recommend a visit. Please note the visiting hours change for the summer season so be sure to research this first.

We chose the guided free tour which lasted about an hour and was quite thorough. I really enjoyed the quality of items on display and learning about the artifacts. If one is lucky the libraries in Scottsdale have a free pass for 2 people to enter. We paid but it was worth the $5 entry fee each.

Huge thank you's to Tynkertopia's creator, because what she has made, will leave such a legacy in so many kids, and families lives!!! It was our first time in, and will not be our last. My little boy had so much fun crafting with free run of endless loose materials. Something about the place and it's wonderful staff just calms the nervous system, and lets you know you are in a safe space where everyone is encouraged and accepted. The way the staff reacts when your child asks a question, or asks for materials that are not out amongst the thousands that are visibly available is with willingness and kindness. They even went out to the shed to bring in stuffing for the craft my kiddo decided to make as a Christmas present for me. He felt so valued and respected...like his voice mattered inside of Tynkertopia, even though he's a kid. Another thing they do when you walk in the door that was so unique and adds to the feeling that you are welcome there is to give you a tour of where everything is and what's available to do. They introduce you to their fascinating Honey Ant colony, and you can even spot the Queen! Honey Ants are beautiful creatures. Tynkertopia offers nutritious snacks for hungry little tummies. The way they bring you in to this wondrous space makes you feel so at home. This is a non-profit and apparently they just won a couple of awards for (I think it was ) best things to do with kids, and best non-profit and they absolutely deserve both of those. Thank you, thank you for being so kind to us and selling my son the 3D printed spiral fidget for a kids price; because he...is...obsessed with it!!! We had the most fun ever, and are still in disbelief that a magical, yet so humble a space like this, exists. My kiddo says he wishes he could be there every day. To be honest...I could be there every day myself.
