On a Sunday, it isn't as packed as I'm used to (which means actually getting a seat) and it only costs €5. Five euro for five comedy acts! Bargain! Whatever about the audience heckling the comedians, this venue is so tiny that they heckle you! I was "picked on" by two comedians that night. First, Aidan Bishop (Des Bishop's sexy brother) complimented me on my summer dress and asked where I was from. There was no fear of me outshining the comedian as I replied, "Ireland." Duh! Fred Cooke (yer man from the Spar ads) insisted I was Jean from the UCD musical society and that we "shifted" back in '99. He impressed me with how quickly and wittily he improvised when someone from the audience suggested songs for him to perform. He really involved the crowd and even got the barman to dim the lights as he danced Thriller-style and played two recorders at a time. Then, Aidan got up and rapped with him. Abie Philbin Bowman (writer and performer of "Jesus: The Guantanamo Years") seemed like he was showing off with all he knew about politics and history. Us Irish don't like cockiness. We find self-deprecation a lot more humorous. On the other hand, Aussie Damian Clark (from TV show "I Dare Ya") was energetic, hilarious and has such an infectious laugh. So if you want some chiselled jaw lines, get your funny bones down to The International Comedy Club!

As this was a free reserved event, there were way too many people (probably about 40 or more) for the tiny space. I was at the very back in a stall and there were people sitting on the floor by the window and some brave ones were standing for the full 2 hours of the event. Nice and light comedy though. The show normally costs 7e in and lasts for 2 hours with 5 or 6 comedians. A good laugh for a weeknight.

The comedians overall were so so, some of the jokes did not land and a few were outright racist or homophobic.

It will run every second thursday and eventually will run every week (Or so I was told) This is an amazing and FREE comedy night which is awesome for not only guests of the hostel but the people that live around this area! The room is spacious yet intimate not like the usual comedy nights where you are cramped into a small room in a pub! The generator has a deadly bar so you can get drinks and bring them in with you! They have some really cool acts lined up for the coming shows. The first night featured Foil arms and hog which is good value for money (wait there is no money involved :)) If you like good comedy and you like to drink please I urge you to check this amazing new night out!!!

I didn't want to leave - the headliner was Rory O'Hanlan and he was doing a whopper job of dissecting us Irish. Jeez that recession is good fodder for banter isn't it. He was hilarious from beginning to end. I must say that I've never been at the brunt of a comedian's wrath before - is it wrong to say I kinda enjoyed it? He wasn't too mean anyway, and was all in good fun. Either way, the line up for the night was great. Of course there was a mixture of hilarious and not-so-hilarious comedians, but that's to be expected at any comedy show. I like the venue itself as it feels like you're in someone's sitting room. There's even an old boarded up fireplace in the corner. It's a quick trip downstairs to the bar (drinks prices are average), and there didn't seem to be too much of a rush on down there, even through the intermission. This is a really busy night - the room was rammed, but not uncomfortably so - most people had seats and the rows are set up so you're not all falling over each other. I'd advise getting there by 8.30pm at least to make sure you get a seat. I missed my bus in the end. It was worth it though...
