I waited nearly an hour for the doctor to come in and could hear him talking and laughing outside the door. After looking at my back once, Dr. Buatti told the assistant to prescribe different medications I said didn't work for me. He continued talking over me, glaring, and in the end prescribing things I again, told him did not work. But worst of all, their sign in questions had no where for me to tell them I am transgender, and I believe I was targeted for this. I put female on the intake form because I'd be asking them to look. Both the assistant and Dr. Buatti seemed amused and condescending when they asked why I put that. When we talked about my HPV, after the assistant told me I could leave my underwear on, he stayed in the room watching me when he told me to take them off. This was extremely uncomfortable and I had to ask for privacy. When they came back in, he used the cryo gun across the entire surface of my privates. It was not targeted to actual lesions, it was freezing the entire area. I was in a significant amount of pain for a week and later saw burn marks. I left humiliated and disgusted. No further treatment was offered. Extremely unprofessional and I have warned against this place to anyone looking for a dermatologist.

I can certainly say being a patient for 8 years, that Dermatology Specialists of Shelby has always shown and given Me wonderful care in My comprehensive skin treatment. Dermatology Specialists of Shelby started in 1981 and has been treating families and pediatric patients with the best quality care and treatments for over 40 years. They used different machines and techniques for careful skin treatments. I've only received Freeze treatment based on skin tags or moles. I had a skin lesion cut out for biopsy on my forehead temple area and it was not cancerous, being called keratosis. I am a patient with Andrea Rosik, M.S., PA-C who is board-certified giving high standards and compassion in treating Me, plus never a rushed appointment since she will explain what she thinks is important. I have seen her for freezing of skin tags or moles. Then in November for My yearly skin screening after those Summer months in the pool and outdoor in the Sun. She was voted Michigan Dermatology PA of the year in 2020 so belated Congrats to Her ! From check in with the staff at the front desk are very pleasant and efficient fast. There is also a New on-line check-in by text message before appointments. There is a patient portal website for appointment scheduling, medical assistance and billing as well. They accept most insurances for payment or surgical treatment plans. Further to the last post where I detailed how Holly (a registered nurse and the owner) left me with…read moresecond degree burns from the laser treatment, I have now had to be on antibiotics for some of the burn wounds becoming infected, was on prescription pain killers, had to get a tetanus shot, have been both to urgent care and the family doctor multiple times to deal with the second degree burns. And, according to the family doctor will almost certainly have permanent scars from the laser burns Holly inflicted. My lawyers have reached out to Holly to obtain her insurance info, which she is refusing to provide. Further, Holly had promised to refund the $200 gift card I had with her. She has not. And has kept an additional $50 she charged to my credit card that she was never entitled to. (Which I have filed a fraud report with my credit card company over.) Do not get treated at Reawaken Spa. Not only did Holly leave me with documented (by her, me, and multiple sets of doctors) second degree burns, but she is not professional enough to take responsibility for them by letting her insurance company and my lawyers properly settle the matter. Based on this action of her, I fear the only remedy is going to court (vice settling it between the lawyers and her insurance, since she refused that option) and filing a report with her RN licensing board because I genuinely fear what she will do to her patients, especially as a nurse.

On top of all this, I drove back to the med spa an hour after the appointment to show Holly the burns (which she photographed for her own records) and she took no accountability in an email she sent hours later despite initially sending in a prescription for antibiotic ointment to my pharmacy.

My nurse practitioner went out on maternity leave and there was a charge for services as a 'different' provider was to see me. Wait, same office so why should the patient be on the hook for new charges concerning the previous services rendered? But here is the rub, first visit only removing two skin tags pushed the billing allowance up. First tag removal fee and 2-15 (some limit) removals another fee. Only removed two skin tags to increase the client billing fees with minimum services. On the second follow-up visit which was supposed to be free on touch-up turned yielded new additional changes, new provider (NP still on maternity leave) so have to pay. While at the counter checking out already irritated on new provider charge, an office staff member was instructing the billing person to bill me the maximum charges allowed as this patient was credited on first visit for nearly all the office charges due on negotiated rates. Would appear that billing practices is a concern over patient care. I will not be recommending nor returning back to Grekin Skin Institute/Advanced Dermatology in Shelby Township or other locations.

My esthetician was Donna, and she used a strip wax for my underarms. Most estheticians don't do this, as underarms are sensitive and a hard wax is much better. The technique was not good. She applied a very thin layer of wax, and there was a lot of leftover hair as well (see my photos). This resulted in her having to go over the same areas again, resulting in the irritation. I thought the facial was just mid - there could have been better attention to detail. Slower strokes, more relaxing and intentional, would have made it a better facial. After my services, I brought everything to attention of another employee, Wafa. First she said "My boss would be happy to refund you". And then it changed to "My boss did not approve the refund". I was offered the chance to come back in so they could re-do it, but I declined. I was told the owner, Rose, would be reaching out to me, and she never did. As a first-time customer, if you don't provide a good first experience initially, I am not going to return. Beyond this, everyone was at least friendly. It's too bad it wasn't a good fit. I would have been a regular.
