My wife and I stopped by with our little one twice while on summer vacation. What we liked was the quality of the coffee and broad, creative breakfast menu. Wide range of choices with a touch more flare than we expected in a small beach town. Also, the outdoor seating is nice and quite a few tables available. They keep the place clean and in good order. My açai bowl was more like a yogurt bowl and my wife went for vegetarian option. She complained her bread wasn't fresh and was overly salty. Neither breakfast lived up to expectations. I didn't find the service to be overly good, however. Can't say the barista taking orders was too friendly and welcoming on either visit. Walking through Port Macquarie earlier we were looking for somewhere for lunch. I fancied fish and chips - big surprise there! Anyway, saw this place and saw that they had my Fav ice cream, since 2 days ago when I tried it for first time, Boysenberry! Plus they did fish and chips, so we ordered our lunch. I ordered the F&C and Hubby got the daily special, Chicken Mornay Pie. We paid and sat down to wait. Imagine my horror when I got on Yelp and found this place only had 2 reviews, both of them 1 star! I was gobsmacked, but it was too late, we'd already ordered and paid. 10 minutes later the food was delivered by a fairly friendly lady, and guess what? It was great! Hubby's pie had only breast meat, the pie crusts were light and flaky, and my fish and chips were perfect! We went back later for ice cream and the same lady was there and was nice again. Not sure if this place had changed hands since the previous reviews, but I definitely think it's worth 4 stars. read more

Me and the lady love decided to check this place out after hearing it was not too bad and it was terrible experience. We went to the counter to be told that it was table service, which we had no problem with. We took our seats and then we waited for 13 minutes (I timed it ) without getting so much as a glance from the staff despite the fact that there where plenty of them. They all appeared to be more interested in having a good yard with each other than serving customers. At this point another couple walked in and sat at the table next to us so I figured that at least THAT would get there attention. It did and the next customers were promptly given menus and served coffee. When the waitress came back to bring the coffee I politely asked when we would be served and was told I would have to wait five minutes because they where busy! At this we walked out and went to Cedros down the other end of Clarance St, which has never disappointed and certainly restored my faith in humanity, which was a challenge as the Co's simple lack of service and manners left me in such a dark mood. Overall don't know about the food but it was appalling service. There are very few places I wont give a second chance to but THIS most certainly made that list. read more

Not only did I wait over an hour (they were not busy) for a simple Salt and Pepper Squid (which was delivered to the wrong table) the amount of salt poured on my plate was criminal. Almost inedible, I had to cover my food in the weak Aeoli to get it down. I regret not reading the reviews before ordering. read more

As a tourist passing through on an overnight stay and with other clearly more popular options in this strip, this was a poor experience. The young barista was clearly under the pump, and when he requested help from another staff member to serve because we'd been waiting too long, she appeared from the kitchen, but went about her business doing a few more things before she served us. Also, $5 for a small takeaway is pretty unreasonable. Not even the top cafés in Australia charge that. read more

Wow. The Co is host to some of the most rude and inhospitable employees I've ever met. I tried to order my over priced food from a waitress who was exceptionally poor at listening, making me repeat my order several times. She then insulted me about my card not working, considering it was their machine that was faulty. I then asked for her to swipe (not tap). So she tapped the card. The food was dry, poached eggs weren't runny, the salmon was old and the hollandaise sauce was from a packet (or it was just really poorly made.) I paid for a late that turned out to be an espresso and when all the food came out, we ended up with cold, and incorrect orders. All in all, I'd get better service from a rat in a dumpster, than at The Co Cafe. Yikes. read more

Co. Cafe has become our favourite place for a lazy Sunday brunch or lunch. I noticed that there is only one other current review, the two previous are from 2011. New management means new reviews! We moved to Port Macquarie almost four years ago now and have sampled many of the cafes and restaurants. We came from Canberra where there is an abundance of eateries to choose from and have been going to Co. Cafe for about 12 months now. The (counter) service is very good, they are very happy to adjust the menu items to suit, the food is delicious and very fresh (I just love the Hollandaise sauce!). The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. And my grandchildren like it too. Thumbs up! read more

This is the worst cafe I think I have ever been to. The food was dry and overlooked and we waited an hour and a half for our food! The waitress with a long plait at the back was rude and sarcastic and did nothing to clean the tables. It was a struggle to get any cutlery to eat our meals when they finally arrived. read more
