I recently moved to PA from Portland Oregon where it seems that Yelp is more often relied upon to find businesses. Since most places here seem only to have a few reviews each, I thought I would make it a personal project to review each place I try to help fellow travelers in their searches. I was shocked to find this place had such low reviews; I found it absolutely refreshing to find such a beautifully curated shop with clothes and jewelry that really spoke to my interests. Most of the one star reviews said they felt ignored when they visited, and maybe that's where I differ from other shoppers as I prefer to take my time and have the space to do so. When I started a conversation with her, we had a lovely chat and she was very warm and kind. I am tempted to keep this gem to myself but my conscience won't let me do that...this is a place you should definitely make a regular haunt. read more

When I was a student at Dickinson, the Clothes Vine was on the opposite side of High Street that it's on now. Somedays when I had a quiet afternoon and I needed a gift or a reason to cheer myself up that was in walking distance, I would go to the Clothes Vine. The owner and her daughter are the nicest people in the world. The shop stocks unique apparel in a range of sizes which is fabulous and you can get something beautiful, wearable, and not totally fruity at the shop. I particularly love her Fall/Winter clothing which always has a vintage feel, it's chic without being impractical to wear and makes you feel like a lady. I'm sure it would be the perfect place to get a dress for a wedding, graduation, etc. in the Spring. The windows are always a treat, too! In addition to the clothing, there are also hats, accessories, some household items, and beautiful jewelry. Very unique, funky, and affordable jewelry. I got my Mother her Mother's Day/Birthday present there on two occasions and both pieces are in Mum's favourite jewelry collections. It's the most gorgeous shop downtown. Sometimes I forget that it's there, because I am so programmed to go to the mall or go on-line to shop on-line at Boden (a similar-type shop). It's well-worth the trip downtown or out to Carlisle to visit this hidden gem for a gift or to treat yourself on a crummy day. read more

Me and a friend stumbled across this store walking through downtown Carlisle. We should have stopped there. Once entering we were not greeted but looked at as if we were intruders. Spent a good 20 minutes browsing and checking everything out and was starred at the entire time by the lady working there. Definately didn't give me a feeling of wanting to purchase anything. She was very friendly with another customer, maybe it looked like we weren't the "right" customers. On a good note, their dog was super cute, that's about it. read more

I love this place. I've gotten so many of my fav articles of clothing here. This is a really thoughtful boutique and the management is great. It's also one of the only clothing boutiques in Central PA. And it's really the only place for young people to get trendy clothing in town (discounting Target). If you're female, this is a great place to pop into to find something special. read more

I have to echo everything that has been written. Super selection, awesome, friendly owners. Extra fun over the holidays: Roxy, the store pup, is generally decked out for the holiday AND they have "wish lists" so that you can pick what you like and save your man the pressure of picking something for you (or sizing). read more

I love this store. It's places like this that make you want to reserve all your clothing budget for the local economy! I got the most beautiful dress for my anniversary. Upset that I was completely ignored. I recently moved to Carlisle to attend Dickinson law school and I stopped in to shop for an outfit to wear to the "Rock of Ages" show next month. I stopped by between classes dressed comfortably In a tee and old boots. The owner and cashier both made eye contact and both ignored me. I saw a couple of things I wanted to try on but left instead. Adore the clothing line and the layout of the store is not overcrowded making it easier to shop. Displays were cute and their fall line leaves me wanting to return to colder temperatures sooner than later so I can shop. Sadly- my likelihood of returning is slim. On Monday afternoon my daughter's and I stopped by this sweet boutique but spent over 22 minutes in the store pasding by the two associates multiple times and we're never once even acknowledged our presence when we opted to exit the store - not even a thanks for stopping in. read more

The ClothesVine is my favorite clothing/accessories store in the world. I have been shopping there since Sally and Naomi opened 12 years ago. All their merchandise is unique and stylish. It's a great place to find a one-of-a-kind outfit or piece of jewelry. Selections range from casual to dressy and you won't find more helpful, nice salespeople anywhere. Don't shop at the Clothes Vine! Initially friendly unless you want to make an exchange. Small shop owners can build wonderful customer service by being friendly and helpful and understanding and making occasional allowances for circumstances, especially for customers from another state. What is the harm in making an exchange, which could yield even more money than the initial purchase? When refused, it puts the purchaser of a gift in a difficult situation and left literally "holding the bag". Disappointing, and shocking... read more

Clothes inside are adorable.....if you can just get past the horrible window displays....looks like the salvation army....I have spent years in visual displays and if I had one hour in your windows.....I could make them amazing!!! I had a very disappointing experience at The Clothes Vine today. I am still shaken by the treatment that my mother and I received when we went in to exchange a top that she had purchased as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law. My mother, who is from the Midwest, was visiting me in early November and we I went shopping to buy outfits for a trip to NYC. My mother purchased the top after explaining to the owner that it was a Christmas gift for her daughter-in-law who lives out of town and that she would not be able to exchange the top within the 30 days shop policy since she was giving it as a Christmas gift and did not plan to return to Carlisle until well after the new year. The owner told her that she would make an exception to the policy since my mother was from out of town. She said, "You/she can come in any time and exchange it if it does not fit." Unfortunately, though my sister-in-law loved the top, the wrists were too tight. My mother, who is once again visiting me, took the top into the shop today with all the confidence that she would be able to exchange it for another item. We were startled by the snappish response of the co-owner to my mother's request to exchange the top even though my mother presented her with the sales receipt. She was very uncooperative and even a bit hostile and acted like she did not believe us. She called her mother to "check on our story". The response was that her mother never told my mom that the item could be exchanged. My mother only wanted to exchange the item for one of the same or even greater value, not return it for a refund. True it was over the 30 day return policy, but she had been told that that would be acceptable since she was from out-of-town and had no way to return the top within 30 days. In fact, since it was a Christmas gift, it was purchased over 30 days before Christmas, and this was explained to the owner who originally sold the top. The end result was that we still own the top which fits no one in our family. The other result is that I, who have purchased hundreds of dollars of clothing from this shop, no longer do business there. The owner sacrificed future business (from me) and good will for her "policy". read more

I love the unique items they have in the store, but my experience the other day was not great. I purchased a very cute purse, but when I looked for the tag there was none (maker, etc.). I asked the owner and she said oh, I did not notice, I could not tell you the brand, which obviously means they don't pay much attention to that. Before I was even able to debut my cute purse I noticed that some material had flaked away and was noticable (not sure if it was leather or not/ no tags where attahced to the purse noting material or care). When I returned it (a few days later) I could only get store credit which is their policy and is clearly displaced behind the register, but apparently I did not read it because who is thinking of returning something they just bought to keep for themselves? Now, while I do understand their policy, I find it unfitting that they do not consider handling the return differently when it is a poor quality item. read more
