If you're looking to wine and dine a loved one or impress a new date, then you can't really go wrong here. Head chef and owner Adam Wilde has created an attractive warm bistro feel in this family run establishment, with dimmed lighting, booth seating and laid back sounds. The mix of French and English dishes change regularly and are surprisingly affordable. Classic dishes like Moules Mariniere, Pork fillet Stroganoff and Slow braised lamb knuckle fall between £9 and £13 and the well put together wine list starts at just £12.90. After a fabulous dinner, you don't have to move very far for entertainment on the weekends. That's provided by the House bar, where live acts play until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays whilst you sip your belgian beer, champagnes or cocktail.

With an appetite for fresh ingredients and local produce, the menu is brimming with seasonal flavours and offers an appealing mix of English and French dishes. As well as a daily 'specials board' to delight the most food savvy of diners, signature dishes include The House Wellington and Grilled John Dory. Open for both lunch and dinner, the afternoon menu offers a tempting selection of fresh salads, sandwiches, jackets, wraps and toasted paninis, plus a choice of a la carte dishes.

The decor inside is classy and modern also and you feel as though you are in quality surroundings and as such the food will be of a high standard. The most impressive thing about the restaurant is that they try to use local ingredients which is great to see and the menu is vast ranging from a rump of Lamb to Southport shrimps which incidentally I would recommend despite not being a fan of seafood . There are also great wines and a range of beers to be found also although nothing in Puschka comes cheap. This place is well worth the price and really is a niche within Liverpool's culinary ensemble so I would definitely advise the people of merseyside to try out Puschka.

With the name Pushka I guess I was hoping for something a little exotic, maybe Eastern European but I was really pleased to be treated to well cooked, modern food. Simple, well prepared good ingredients. The lamb was perfect as was the attentive and friendly service. You're not spending a fortune but feel as if you are getting treated to a fine dining experience.

Magical? Chemical?…read more The alchemist is not only a nice surrounding to sit in but the service and food are great and delicious. When we checked in and were asked if there were any allergies we made jokes about my husband's allergy to cinnamon - that we would not need to worry about out it before desert. We ordered a few items from the menu - which is a very delicious mix of classics with some twists (tempura fried fish and chips for example). Order was taken and a couple minutes later the manager came and said "I am sorry - but the sauce to the fish contains a bit of cinnamon" wow! We change the order of course and the manager came back to the table asking if we would be worried about cross termination. We have been not and everything went well after that. Great service. The food itself plays with the alchemist theme for example the chorizo meatballs come with a syringe to inject your own amount of cheese (what you think? Yes of course o injected the whole Syringe into the little delicious meatball duhh). The menu consist of a lot of small items which makes me so happy since I can have so many bites of different things and at the alchemist they are all worth it! And of course classics like burger, salads and sandwiches alongside their mains. The menu is not too big but literally has something for everyone. You have to try the crispy pork skins! After we had been told that the crispy fish contains cinnamon my husband learned they offer their "chicken in a basket" as a vegetarian version as well and that is what he got. Damn that is so good: A bed of chips (fries for our American friends) are surrounded by one of the best coleslaw I had in a long time (almost as good as Guy Fieri's if not even better) then slightly pan seared onions and peppers layer on top of the fries. Ready to be mixed in. Then of course a generous amount of chicken or in this case plant based chicken smothered in a sweet chili sauce. Not to forgot to mention that it came with an extra little bowl of dipping sauce. Delicious! We also had a mocktail which name I might not be allowed to recite here let's named it "virgin adult film star" what a perfect combination of fruit, creme and sweetness. Yummmmmm To end the night I had coffee and Choclate - any serving of coffee comes with a set of three pralines. What a way to end the night at the alchemist. Great atmosphere perfect service and delicious food and drinks.

Mmmmm the review I never thought I'd write. This is my secret (top secret - this review will self…read moredestruct in 5 seconds) favourite restaurant. I hardly ever tell anyone it exists for fear it will become super busy and we'll never be able to get a table there. I must be going soft in my old age as I am letting you all in on the secret, probably banking on the fact you won't want to be bothered coming all the way to Sale for a meal and my monogamous love affair with Table 10 can continue uninterrupted. Run by the two loveliest people, lady front of house and chef in the kitchen who I've never met but as our favourite table sits under somewhere we can hear into the kitchen we feel we know him by his voice. It's a tiny restaurant (hence my irrational fear of overcrowding the reservations book!) traditional English in its decor, if there is such a thing, with a menu hand written on a blackboard that they prop up on a chair next to you. Got to love a handwritten blackboard menu! We love the bobotie pie here so much that Dan F has had to perfect his own version at home. It's not quite the same but we are close. Dan has an uncanny knack of ordering the best thing on any menu, seriously if you are out with him always order what he chooses or you will regret it. He went for the venison and it was fantastic. I had chicken which was lovely but after one small mouthful of what was left of Bambi I wanted to grab his off him and refuse to share the remained with him, probably not great valentines etiquette...... This review is now far too long so I'll just say desserts are classic 'nursery' choices and always delicious. They have a wine list that we are always happy to order off and usually have far more than we should as we enjoy it so much.

Its unassuming frontage on the busy main road hides a cosy, relaxed dining space with room for 30-40 covers. The staff are welcoming and can't do enough for you; they seem to know just the right time to pop back to the table to see if everything's alright without you feeling they're being excessive. There are lots of tempting choices on the modern, international menu (they've specials which change frequently). Stick to their standard menu though and you can enjoy a three course meal for £15.95 without drinks. I was enticed more from their specials on this occasion, ordering cod goujons followed by venison with porcini mushroom sauce and creamy mash. Everything was absolutely superb; so much so we decided to splurge and have dessert too. I'd heard the chef was South African so opted for the native cinnamon milktart which came with a scoop of ice cream and a shot of vodka! Some of their wines are available by the glass - I can recommend their Sauvignon Blanc. They're a real local gem, relying on fresh seasonal produce to lead their ever-changing menus. It's great to have another local restaurant to spread the word and rave about.
