Chocolate = Work of Arts? Here at The Chocolate Lab, that's how Chocolate is prepared and displayed as such. Every piece looks so pretty and so colourful. I just feel like order every single one of those. But sadly, good chocolate does come with a cost and I do have a budget. Staff here is super friendly and cheerful. I took them back to my hotel and I just want to eat them all as bedtime treats! But sadly, I have to share with someone the next day.......

    Our gorgeous selection....

The chocolates here are BEAUTIFUL little works of art and quite tasty. I didn't realize the Chocolate Lab existed until #loveYYC day popped up and I set out to explore the city. Located in Chinatown, they were promoting their Chinese 5 spice truffles. Not something I would have picked from their beautiful line without the nudge but I quite liked it We ended up buying a some of the chocolates and truffles to come home with us. This was a great find but a strange location because beautiful boxes of chocolates are not what I personally go to china town to find. But, now that I know they are there, I will check them out again.

Awesome chocolates!!! Tried a passion fruit caramel too which was super tasty as well! Tried several different flavors, delicious. You can tell the owners care because they walk you through all the flavours and hand you samples when you come in. Great unique gift idea due to the exotic flavour combinations. Very welcoming store.

Hiding gems from me is tricky, but this lab has accomplished it literally. I looked shop by shop, and retraced step by step and when all hope was lost a young lady giving me a "what the F" look through the window that's when I saw beyond her to discover the hidden treasures that lie within.

A true boutique chocolate shop with simply gorgeous chocolates with every colour and pattern you can imagine, and flavour combinations you cannot. The owner and chocolatier is usually there to chat and is quite affable. The chocolates are going to cost more than Callebaut and it's ilk, but it's worth it for the uniqueness of the designs and flavor combinations (leather and brandy anyone?) A box from here as a gift would send a message of "I really thought about you, I didn't just pick these up from Shopper's".

Assorted sampler box that we selected...

Stopped by on a blustery afternoon, a day before Christmas Eve. The shop is small but very well kept. We purchased about 30 pieces of these beautiful chocolates that look like pieces of art. They're beautifully designed and taste amazing!!! The lady who served us owns the store and supports her hubby's passion. The flavours are intense in some and very unique. Be sure to stop here!!!

The chocolates are delicious. They usually give you a sample. My favourite is the Lychee Rose. When you order a box of 12 - they usually give you a free truffle. They also have imperfect chocolates in a bag that you can buy for cheaper. I was able to pick up a bunch of chocolates that were also gluten-free for friends as a gift.

The shiny copper box is unmistakable and always manages to give me the same giddy excitement I had as a kid. Now as an adult, anytime I am in town to visit family I make a point of stopping by the specific location. Primarily because this is or once was the flagship store (the arched windows remind me of a Willy wonka sort of nostalgia). But mostly because the chocolates always seem to be the freshest as this location versus others I have visited in the past. And while Bernard Callebaut chocolates are most certainly a splurge, they are worth every penny if you ask me. Since this is a rare occasion for me, I get a bigger box but not so big that it's obnoxiously embarrassing. I'm not sure what's worse, that or the fact that I don't even share them with my husband. Some of the best chocolates are: strawberry (made from real strawberries), Honey, coconut, caramel....whatever your choice- you can't go wrong. But I do not at all like the new Cococo chocolates, but perhaps you should buy just one so you can compare against the Bernard Callebaut chocolates to see what I'm talking about. Not all chocolate is created equal.

Our first stop last year was back in October during a culinary treasure hunt we participated in. Once we completed our task we were given a complimentary sample of a Habanero Sea Salt Milk Chocolate Bar to take with us. OMG it was drop dead delicious. Our next stop came in December when my in-laws (who were in town visiting) wanted to pick up some special chocolate to bring home after Christmas. We brought them here. This time we got to sample the Silver Award Winning Milk Chocolate bar flavoured with Rosemary, Thyme and Habanero Sea Salt. It is fabulous and obvious why it's a silver award winner. This place offers chocolate factory tours and this is definitely on our list of things to do...that and well come back and try some more yummy chocolate.

The chocolate is smooth and creamy, sweet without being overly sweet and not one ounce of bitterness. Hubby likes the white chocolate to switch is up as well as the rice crisp chocolate bars. The deal for 3 bars at $4.99 is fantastic. Mix and match. Great seasonal items can be found in an organized way and not once have I found something I wanted out of stock. Staff are generally friendly enough and some days there are samples but you have to ask for them at times when you see the platter hiding on the back shelf. The location is great, inside Market Mall within the food court.

Despite the fact that I'm stuck working double-time to make up for all the extra indulging I did this month, I have to tell you - Purdy's chocolates is THE best Easter chocolate around. Whether you like milk, dark or white - they've got it all, and it's DAMN GOOD. Plus they sell chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs, and other fun chocolate creatures. Don't even get me started on their $500 GIANT chocolate bunny. All I need is one night...just lock me in and lose the keys.
