They never called me back, and they didn't give my dress back or sell it. I don't even know what to do outside of filing a police report for theft. read more

READ THIS REVIEW! I debated about writing this review for months, but ultimately felt like I should share my experience with The Shabby Chic and, more importantly, their seamstress. I should start by saying that The Shabby Chic itself was absolutely wonderful. It was the third bridal shop I had went to that day and ended up being where I bought my wedding dress from. My group was the only group in the shop during my appointment, and we had a consultant's undivided attention the entire time. We had independence to browse dress racks ourselves, but the consultant also made a few suggestions and brought out a few dresses herself. I never felt pressured by the consultant to "just hurry up and pick one" or felt like my thoughts on the dresses she brought out weren't heard and considered. When I decided on my wedding dress, the consultant was able to give me multiple discounts due to small flaws in the dress (it was used, of course), which I really appreciated. Altogether I just spent around $550 on a dress that was originally well over $1,000, which I'd say is a steal (not to mention that the consultant gave me a congratulatory gift bag, too)! I wanted to get alterations done for those small flaws I mentioned, so the consultant recommended I use the in-shop seamstress (Mary Hafner). I couldn't find any information/reviews about her online, but the consultant trusted her, so I went with it. That is where I went wrong. Right off the bat, this seamstress seemed unfriendly and coarse. At both of my fittings, which happened mid-May and mid-June, she was not wearing a mask (which doesn't bother me, but seemed completely unprofessional, given the COVID-19 pandemic). When I gave her my thoughts on what I'd like altered, she was kind of pushy about what she thought would be best, almost like she didn't consider what I'd requested. (Granted, a lot of what she said was based off of her experience as a seamstress, but she also changed my mind about what I wanted my veil to look like, which wasn't cool.) I tried to let this feeling of uncertainty roll off my shoulders by thinking, "This seamstress apparently has a lot of experience, so even if she rubs me the wrong way, I should just trust in her skills", but I was WRONG. (For background knowledge: My dress is mermaid-style with intricate beading on the bodice and a tulle skirt.) There were MULTIPLE errors in my dress when I received it back. There was a noticeable rip near the zipper on the side of the bodice. The bodice was supposed to be close-fitting, but the zipper VERY EVIDENTLY bunched up near my hip, visible in all of my wedding pictures showing that side of my body. The zipper itself would not go past a certain point without SIGNIFICANT pulling. The bra cups added into the dress were poorly sewn (like, I could've done a better job if I'd done it myself). I asked for beading on the edge of my veil and there was none. Mind you, the impression the seamstress gave me at our initial fitting was that the dress/veil would be nothing but flawless in the end; in fact, multiple of the issues I listed above we SPECIFICALLY talked about fixing at my initial fitting. The seamstress also had more than enough time to fix these issues-- I bought my dress early March, my initial fitting was mid-May, I received my dress back mid-June, and I got married late-August. My mom and I ended up calling the seamstress back and asking her about these issues. She gave us excuses in response-- "You have no idea how long I spent on your dress", "I worked on that for such a long time and that's as good as it's going to get", "I can't fix that because the fabric is too fine", things of that nature. She eventually agreed to take the dress back and spend some more time on it, but I noticed no difference. I PAID OVER $600 ON THESE ALTERATIONS. COMPLETELY frustrating. If there is one thing a bride should not feel on her wedding day, that would be disappointment about her wedding dress. I most definitely did. Altogether, I'd give The Shabby Chic 5/5 stars, and Mary Hafner 0/5 stars. read more

I went here to try on dresses for my wedding. It was easy to make an appointment, and I was able to get one for the time and day I wanted. The staff who helped me was super friendly, and she gave me lots of options to try on. She was there to assist when needed but didn't hover; and she had a great taste. I am SO beyond ANGRY right now! Beware of SHABBY CHIC BRIDE consignment in Salem, OR. I took my wedding dress there, got a call in June saying that my wedding dress (worth thousands) hadn't sold and asked if I was willing to lower the price and they would keep it for 6 months; I agree as long as SHE would reassure me they would contact me and if it hadn't sold then they would call me and I would then go pick it up. Which she replied "oh definitely". I called them everyday this week to find out if it had sold cause I wasn't going to wait and I'd just go pick it up.... Someone finally called me back stating that the dress wasn't picked up so they DONATED IT! WTF!!!! she went on to say that "her manager" documented that our conversation in June was that she told me I had til to July to pick it up then it would be donated! And that they sent both letters and emails without reply!!!!! Are you kidding me???!!!!! I GOT NOTHING! No phone calls, no emails and no letters!!!!! And are you seriously going to tell me that they only sell wedding attire and they are going to DONATE a current style expensive wedding gown???!!!!! My gut is telling me that either the manager lied by documenting the above, sold the dress and pocketed the $$$$ or the owner is part of this HUGE SCAM!!!! Unless you are really just donating it to them for them to sell and keep 100% of the profit! ****i only gave this 1 star only because I had to...for the record this IS THE FIRST TIME EVER OF WRITING A BAD REVEIW FOR ANY BUSINESS BECAUSE THIS IS BEYOND ASTONISHING. THINGS TO KNOW: 1. I have absolutely no reason to lie, and would NEVER write a bad review for malice and my time is too valuable to banter. 2. I obviously have no sentimental attachment to the dress or I wouldn't have tried to sell it. My husband and I don't need the money but it would've been nice to get something back. 3. It must have ALSO been a coincidence that the 6 mo deadline was December so I CALLED LAST WEEK TO GET MY STUFF BACK. (Mid November) 4. I got a donation slip on The Shabby Chic letterhead. They COULD NOT give me proof that my dress was actually donated to their so called donation sites. *** as a business the IRS would need some type of way to track if items were sold or donated and to where. Even when you donate to goodwill you get a goodwill slip. (Partly why I believe they sold it or considered it a donation TO themselves) Last but not LEAST NOTHING IS WORSE THAN SOMEONE THAT STEALS OR LIES TO YOU....IN THIS CASE I FEEL IT WAS BOTH. WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE IS...consign at your own risk (I would not recommend this place to anyone for consignment and do NOT believe what you are told unless you get it in writing. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate you. My daughter got married in L.A. on the 16th. I'd say that the church did NOT clean the floors before hand. I called every dress shop in Salem and was denied a cleaning without being forced into a full package of it being shipped out of state, a 3 week process and restoration. I needed just a cleaning due to the fact my daughter is having a second reception here in Salem in less the 2 weeks. I called and with the most confidence was told that it would be no problem to have it done and done within a week. Both the owner and I are both kicking ourselves now. Why. Because the ENTIRE bottom, up at least 3 to 5 inches..... was black with soot/ash. AND a clumsy bridesmaid who loves red wine. We are kicking ourselves because we both neglected to take before and after pictures. SHE DID IT!! The dress is clean and beautiful. The owner was confident, friendly, reassuring, professional and .... amazing. She did it in the time she said she would and she charged me ..... well. .. I feel she under charged. While I didn't get my dress here nor have I consigned here before, I have to say I love this place! They are kind and considerate and sweet and the idea of consigning and thrifting wedding dresses is truly a gem! you get a steal of a deal and there are BEAUTIFUL dresses. They carry a lot of different styles and they also had a LOT of modest options! the money you save buying from here will afford you the ability of paying for altering too! I tried on so many wonderful dresses, and I'm a curvy girl! They can always use more stock in plus size, I'm sure. But they had a great selection! They have a new location from the first time I went, so check the address! My only tip? I'd love for them to be open more hours! I had to take time off work to go down there :) read more

I happened across this place on FaceBook this morning and decided I would go look as they had a very beautiful dress selection. Very friendly staff that were very helpful. We were able to look at the dresses and talk and try them on without interruption, while still having help when needed. Found the most beautiful dress in less than an hour! The staff are incredibly down to earth and patient. Although I did not purchase a dress from them, I plan to visit again since I have not been as impressed with other bridal stores in the Portland/Salem areas. They have a lot of dresses in various sizes with large size dressing rooms. I came from Beaverton and it was definitely worth the trip. read more

A group of 7 of us (ranging in ages from 12 to 55) came in on a Saturday and we had a blast. There was lots of laughter and champagne and even a few tears. My best friend, the bride, came in with low expectations of finding her wedding dress at the first place we looked, let alone a consignment shop. Not only did she find an AMAZING dress, she also found a very reasonably priced dress for her rehearsal diner. 2 dresses in less than two hours! The lady working was extremely friendly, bringing in needed accessories, etc. She was the perfect amount of helpful! She wasn't in the dressing room with us, nor was she bringing in a bunch of expensive dresses. She just showed us were we needed to look for the sizes we needed and then let us forage on our own, even though we create somewhat of a disaster out of the store. She quietly came around and picked up everything we were done with. She was never in the way but she was always there when she was needed. She was perfect. I would definitely recommended this establishment. Book an appointment, bring your favorite people and a bottle (or three) of champagne and you'll have a wonderful experience. It's safe to say that our group of girls can have fun no matter where we go, but this place was very accommodating to our crazy fun bride-to-be. THANK YOU! read more
