I am of an age where my first experience of a barber was being taken to the seedy back street barber that my father used with its cabinet containing razors, bryl cream and something for the weekend. No choice just a standard short back and sides was provided by Demon Des as the boys knew him.
Having gone down to the route of unisex salons ever since then with this months Tatler, ambient trance music and fabulous coffee I have now returned to the world of a barber shop for men.
Rene runs a traditional but smart little barbers in Chelston village,a district of Torquay, you don't make a booking you simply turn up and wait your turn, which is rarely long however many are ahead of you..this man is a hair wizard!!!
Not only is this shop bright and friendly, complete with the local comercial radio station, the local paper, the Mail for national news and some lad style mags but at £5.00 for a standard cut it is exceptionally reasonable even by south western standards.
If you do require pampering and preening,a glossy blue chip mag to flick through and a lavazza then this isn't your salon,if you have limited time and want a quality cut to your specifications and are aged between 2 and 92 then this is certainly the place you should be seeking. read more
