We found this cabin on VRBO and vacationed here twice, so far. Incredibly nice owners and a…read morebeautiful house. It's not right on the lake, but up on a hill above the owners' house. But that shouldn't be and hasn't been a problem. There's an included six-passenger golf cart to ride down the hill and back up (and I guess to ride anywhere else, although there's really nowhere else to go within golf cart range). The house itself is more than a cabin. It is three levels of wood-walled beauty, inside and out. The main floor has a remote-controlled gas fireplace, a smallish TV and sound system, and several recliners. There is a dinette table with seating for maybe 8 and a kitchen with an island. The main bedroom is here, with no en suite bathroom...you have to leave the master bedroom to pee. But it is a large bedroom with east- and south facing windows. The lake is to the north. Outside, towards the lake, there's a protected wooden deck with a bench and a very large patio table and chairs. A screen door leads out to the gas grill and front porch. Heading up, there is a loft with two twin-sized beds hanging from chains. I never slept in these, incredibly. There's a desk area at the top of the stairs, overlooking the main level and a small balcony that looks south. Nothing too exciting here. There's a stairwell on the main level down to the lower level that begins right outside of the door to the main level bathroom and bedroom. I was never drunk enough to accidentally tumble down it, but beware this navigational hazard. And if you are taller than maybe 6'0" (I'm 6'4" and had to duck quite a bit), you need to proceed with caution, as the 90-degree turn to the left halfway down has a low clearance. The downstairs has a large common area, with a couch, big TV, gaming console, and a kitchenette with fridge. There's also a bathroom with a cool glass block shower. A bedroom with double bunk beds has a utility room with a washer and dryer...these come in handy if you'll be here for more than a couple of days. Head outside on the bottom level and you'll find a pleasant area with a fire pit (and supplied and seasoned wood), a wooden deck with a picnic table, which is covered by the wooden deck of the main floor. A concrete walk curves around and up to the parking area and main floor porch. The main floor porch has some comfy, rustic, wooden rocking chairs that are ideal for sitting in, drinking coffee, and appreciating a quiet morning. This is also how you enter the cabin when you get here. Overall, our two stays here were great. We'll be back, at some point. If you are looking to visit the area, check it out. [I took about a hundred pictures of this place and uploaded them previously, but I deleted them afterwards and they no longer show up. Sorry!]

The owners seem pleasant and they left goodies in a basket as you walk in. WiFi works well and the door number key access is convenient. They let you know that the house backs up to the woods so that bugs CAN be a problem, but that they do spray. That being said, in the master bedroom there's a door that asks you not to open it (it leads to an outdoor balcony) but you can see light sleeping around the door. Perfect place to let bugs in. And I'm assuming you're not supposed to go out on the balcony because it's unsafe. Because there's dry rot and water damage visible on the exterior of the house. 2 (out of 5 booked) nights, 5 roaches and at least 50 bug bites later (all over my arms and legs) we left and found a hotel. I woke the second night because of the itching from the bites. The overall photos they provide are deceiving. The house feels dirty. It's in DIRE need of professional cleaning AND upgrades. The amateur renovation is obvious and makes the house feel dirtier. I don't recommend this place.

When I was looking for lodging in the area there were several amenities that were a MUST for my family(space, cost, and safety). The Trojan Lodge not only met my expectations, it EXCEEDED them!!! My family was able to eat family style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as their is a full kitchen. Not to mention the washer, dryer, cable, and WiFi access(At no EXTRA CHARGE :^] ). This will be my new HOME AWAY FROM HOME!!! Also, the property is ten minutes from Walmart(We went grocery shopping once and saved tons of money on food, feeding my family of picky eaters adds up fast at food restaurants). If you are looking for that feeling of "Home" that's away from the busy business district, The Trojan Lodge is definitely the right place to book!!!!

First, I want to talk about the landlord (AKA the totally awesome guy you will be #BLESSED to rent…read morefrom). Josh Fields was nothing short of amazing. If there were some kind of award I could nominate him for, I'd not only nominate him, but also run his campaign to ensure he'd win. He was always very accommodating and just an all-around super nice guy. He always went above and beyond to get/do/be anything we needed while we stayed with him. For example: We had a noisy neighbor above us who had a home gym area above our bedroom. Josh spoke to her for us on several occasions and when it became clear that she was not even going to attempt to be quieter, he then helped us move to another apartment directly across the hall that did not have an upstairs neighbor. How amazing is that? We originally had problems getting our mail delivered. Josh went to the post office for us since we slept during the day (we were working the night shift at a local hospital) to straighten out the problem. The problem was fixed the very next day. On one occasion, we had an amazon package go missing from the porch. Not to fear! Josh replaced the missing item! The accommodations Josh made for us as night-shift workers were over the top! He purchased blackout curtains for the entire house. He also made sure the other tenants knew we would be sleeping during the day. Anytime we needed maintenance (which wasn't often) he was sure to schedule the appointments for when we wouldn't be sleeping so as not to disturb us. Also, just to throw this out there. Josh made sure we had a king-size bed so that my 6'5 fiancé's feet wouldn't be hanging off the end of the bed. Now, let's move on to the apartments. We stayed in two of Josh's places while we were in Montgomery. Both were old homes that had been renovated and beautifully decorated. There are lots of big windows that let in a lot of natural light all through the houses. There are also security cameras at both the front and back doors. Anything that can be said about one apartment can also be said about the other. There were loads of amenities: -- Small, but full kitchen. Complete with full size fridge, toaster, Keurig coffee maker (with kcups, creamer, sugar, honey, to-go disposable coffee cups, etc.), microwave, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, stove, oven, all manner of cooking utensils, cleaning products, and much more. Unfortunately, no dishwasher or icemaker. Very limited counter space and storage. -- Economy washer and dryer. This was a stacked set in the kitchen. It was rather small and took a lot of loads to wash a week's worth of scrubs for 2 people. But again, Josh had everything you could need to do laundry. Unstoppables, dryer sheets, stain remover, detergent pods, Febreez, etc. -- The bathroom, again, was small. No counter space. Not really enough room for two people to get ready at the same time. The shower was nice and the water pressure was okay. There was a really cool bodywash, shampoo, and conditioner dispenser mounted to the wall in the shower that was full of product. There was no need to buy toilet paper. Seriously, I do not think we bought any the entire 6 months we were there. Josh had the bathroom stocked with a Costco sized pack of the finest TP money can buy. There were also a set of towels and washcloths that were good quality. -- The living room had a flat screen smart TV mounted above the fireplace with Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, Amazon Video, and some other apps for guests to enjoy. The couches were SO COMFORTABLE as were the loveseats. There was a desk with a lamp and desk chair off to the side. Unfortunately the fireplace was not functional. We brought our electric heater that looks like a fireplace and put it in the hole where wood would go in a real one. It ended up looking really nice. -- The living room led out to a sunroom/enclosed front porch area. There were chairs and a table out there where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset or sunrise, if you're that kind of person. Oh, and the wine I mentioned? Yeah, Josh gives you a bottle to welcome you to your new home. -- Each apartment had two bedrooms. The bedrooms were tastefully decorated with designer rugs, wall art, etc. and were beautifully furnished with Ashley Home bedroom suites. One had a king bed while the other had a queen. The closets were a little on the small side, but both rooms had large dressers for extra storage. We really enjoyed our time here and could not have asked for anything better from Josh. He was exceptional and we will definitely rent from him again in the future should our travel nursing careers take us close to one of his properties.

The occupants of the adjacent unit were blocking the shared entrance, drinking heavily, and behaving loudly in a way that made the environment feel unsafe. I left immediately without ever entering the property. I contacted the hosts right away. Rather than addressing the situation meaningfully, they asked whether I had taken photos and stated they would only consider a refund if I canceled and they were able to rebook the unit. Canceling would also have prevented me from leaving this review. The hosts claimed it was safe to return, but I was not willing to risk my safety. Travelers should understand this is not a quiet or secure environment, and the hosts were unwilling to take responsibility when serious concerns were raised.
