View of the Casements from their grounds.

Looking for something to do on a Monday during the holidays, when many other local museums are closed, we decided to head over to the Casements to check out their Christmas decorations. They have a parking lot with plenty of spaces right next to the building, and fortunately they even have a handicapped ramp to get in; useful because a member of our party was in a wheelchair. We missed the docent tour, so we just wandered around. In the main room, they had a towering, beautifully decorated Christmas tree. It was surrounded on all sides by tapestries and more decorations. Also, in a separate room they had a variety of decorated trees that had been donated by various organizations and had themes i.e. there was one from the United States Postal Service with all mail and delivery related ornaments. After taking the elevator upstairs, we wandered around peering in the rooms. This area was not so great - some rooms were closed off, some rooms were undergoing construction, and many just had an eclectic mix of furniture piled in them. Only one room was interesting, as it had pictures of the family on the wall. Outside, the grounds are gorgeous. You can wander across the street down to the water and walk along the pathways. They were gearing up for a big event that weekend, so they were in the process of planting flowers, and I imagine it would have looked beautiful once they were done, but we only saw it in the prep phase.

We had extra time to explore so we checked out The Casements (home to John D. Rockefeller & named for their windows). Free parking lot behind the building. Nice garden area by the Halifax River. Historic and cultural events are held here-we just visited on a day that had nothing scheduled.

This place never disappoints. The food is absolutely amazing and you constantly leave this place…read morewith a full belly and let's not forget about the service. Everyone just seems so happy here so you can tell that it really enjoy their jobs which makes a huge difference. We started off with the coconut shrimp and had like this coconut mayo dipping sauce was different, but it was really good, but I felt like it needed like a sweet-and-sour sauce then I had the mahi tacos with just the rice no black beans definitely still as good as the last time I tried it my boyfriend got the buffalo chicken pizza gluten-free and he ate the entire thing so that just tells you right off the bat that it was good and to finish off our dinners we ended with Keylime pie. It wasn't the best it was OK. I don't think I would have it again, though the ambience, excellent this place is adorable. It's like a diamond in the rough. No one really knows it's here but anytime ever and someone says they're going to Daytona. I always recommend this place. Go here! You will never be disappointed trust me!

Having been to the grind over the years, we have certain expectations as to the quality of food and…read moreservice. I want to preface this by saying we went on a very cold day and ate indoors..the pizza was outstanding and the waiter was friendly and engaging..in other words, typical for our experiences there. Prior to this, we even brought friends who hadn't been there before and loved it...now, to our recent experience: We were seated and the waitress seemed as though she wasn't very familiar with the menu and had to check on our requests, each check took a disturbingly long time. When we brought our friends, my gal ordered a hamburger and I asked the waitress if she could have the wagyu, rather than the angus burger, she readily said yes and my gal marveled over the burger...fast forward to the last experience, the waitress said she'd have to order the wagyu as posted and it "wasn't available" as a stand alone order. So my gal settled for the angus burger and again, the wait was a bit long and as we were considering to leave, the waitress showed up, gave us our food and left. the onion rings were cold...literally...they had been out so long that they weren't even warm (our prior experiences the onion rings arrived hot and delicious). Again we waited for our waitress to return and my gal had to ask another waitress if she could get us some hot onion rings. That waitress noted the cold onion rings and brought them back to the kitchen to prove we weren't being unreasonable, which was a greatly appreciated gesture on her part. Very promptly, the "other" waitress brought our onion rings, apologizing profusely...we thanked her and when my gal started into her Caesar salad, it was inedible....soggy, nearly tasteless and resembling a hot spinach salad with soggy lettuce than a crisp Caesar salad....the upside, the second batch of onion rings were up to their usual excellent standard, the burger was good, but not the intensity of flavor their wagyu burger had. If we hadn't been semi-regulars, it is a near certainty we wouldn't go back, but we aren't going to let a single experience unravel years of good experiences.

We arrived about 4:40 for the 5:00 show and parked behind the building. There were several spots on the side of the building, but I didn't feel like driving around. There was a lovely sitting area while we waited to go in. The staff was extremely friendly from the moment we arrived. At 5:00 on the dot, they blew conch horns and led us to the dining area. We had wonderful seats and were told we could go to the buffet as soon as we liked. I had heard mixed reviews about the food, so I was a bit nervous, especially being his birthday. There were two separate sections, one for hot and one for cold. The cold side had salads; fruit, green, macaroni and crab (which was AMAZING!!!). The hot side had fried rice, beef meatball, teri chicken, pulled pork, rolls and veggies. I thought the selection was more than adequate and although the food wasn't necessarily 5 star, I had no complaints. They had chocolate and vanilla cake for desert as well. The show was in two parts, the first consisting mostly of singing. I felt like there was a problem with the announcer's microphone because everything sounded muffled. It completely gave out and he tried shouting, but no one could hear him. Later he came out with another which was much better. Some of the jokes were a little corny, but they took a 10 minute intermission and then they came out with dancers and fire twirlers and drummer and I was REALLY impressed. My husband said he enjoyed himself, which was a huge compliment to everyone there. I would highly recommend this dinner and show!!!!
