I think I'll Cary on reviewing stuff for the time being. This is an absolutely gorgeous recently renovated old theater in the heart of Cary, which is probably the most diverse and interesting suburb of Raleigh. I absolutely love the way it looks both inside and outside. It reminds me of the North Park Theater in Buffalo and the Byrd Theater in Richmond. And I'm actually like a Byrd, because I'll now fly away from this review. Like Matthews.

Once there was a theater like all theaters: Much like Goldilocks' third chair -- it was not too big and not too small. That's the Cary Downtown Theater now. This spot seats about 150 between the front, the main, and the quasi-box seating. The pitch of the seats in the main section allows for anyone of average height to see the screen and not the back of someone's head. There's no rocker back or reclining seating, and no cup holder and that brings the usual dexterity challenge of holding onto a beverage. The seats are comfortable enough but not luxurious. The ticket prices won't break the bank so matinee pricing isn't a thing because it doesn't need to be. There are reduced prices for shows on Tuesday, but I think that's the senior discount. (!) The theater has only one screen and perhaps a showing or two most days. Some days there isn't one at all -- at least as I've noticed. It's really a multi-purpose facility that focuses on digital arts with the movies as only one facet. As movie theaters gradually turn into megaplexes with dozens of screens and showings and home-like seating and concession stand goodies, the Cary Theater went the other direction and revived the old style. Here, while the balcony is now the computer projection area, the concession stand is next door at the coffee shop (patrons are free to bring their snacks into the theater), and the tickets are printed by the computer on heavy paper stock and then scanned at the door, the small town, old school feel is alive and well. Here, the movies are perhaps underrated, with some current Oscar nominated movies but under the radar with little of the big-budget marketing. It's a showcase for indy films, some occasional comedy and classics. Like all theaters, it still need to pay the bills, so there's a trailer or two of upcoming movies and so far, the only commercial has been a donation appeal for the local Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. One downside to seeing movies here is parking. There isn't any. That's true with most places in downtown Cary. The theater recommends parking behind the church after hours, or in the downtown lot. It only sounds bad. The walk isn't awful. The Cary Theater is a fun, old-style way to see movies. It's local. It's no frills. It works.

We went to the Cary Theater on a Saturday night to watch RBG. It was a packed house. After just moving here from Miami, I really loved and appreciated the old small town feel of the theater. Apparently, it was recently renovated. The staff was nice and helpful. My only complaint is that the theater was a little warm. Finding parking was also a bit of a challenge. After driving around for almost 20 minutes we finally found somewhere to park.

It's nice to visit a theater that caters to one screen and one audience at a time. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well.

The chairs recline and you can put your feet up. I love that there's so much space between the rows so no one can kick your back. A couple issues I noticed: *The audio quality was terrible in my particular theater; the movie sounded like it was playing on an old boombox from the 80s. *The check in process is very confusing! I bought my ticket online before I left home. I walked in to the theater without anyone even stopping to ask me if I'd purchased a ticket. I figured there'd be a person waiting somewhere to scan my phone. *No one ever came by to close the side doors when the movie started. After half an hour of hearing people walk by, I got up and closed the doors. Not a big deal, I'm just used to other theaters always having someone close the door once the trailers are done playing and I wasn't sure if they were supposed to stay open for some reason. Besides that, I'll definitely be back!

My kiddo just turned 2 and is in the tutu toddlers class (18m-3y). The teacher is great with the kids, and there's enough structure in the class for the kids to know what to do/expect next, but it's also very flexible for when toddlers inevitably don't follow directions. There's a warm up, ballet moves with lots of props (wands, feathers, ribbons, etc) to make it fun, a classical ballet story time, and a corresponding coloring page to end the class. Moms are welcome to be with kiddos at this age to help them through class. There's a play corner with a kids table, books, and blocks for before and after class, a kid (and baby) friendly restroom, and sitting area for parents too. There aren't as many mirrors as I would expect from a ballet studio (and no barre?) but my kiddo doesn't need either of those.

He enjoys performing in school plays, and we wanted him to experience formal theater training in a fun and supportive environment. I understand that not every child can be given a major role, so I had no issue with the small part he was assigned. What surprised me was the repeated feedback we received about him "wiggling," asking questions, and talking during rehearsals. When I met with Ms. Melissa, these behaviors were described as disruptive. He's seven years old. If a 7-year-old moving around, asking questions, and occasionally getting distracted is considered disruptive, then I question whether this program is equipped to work with young children. A beginner camp should be teaching kids, not expecting them to behave like seasoned performers. The most disappointing part was being told that our son could not participate in the final performance because he was "struggling." Rather than helping him succeed, they excluded him from the very experience he signed up for. Based on our experience, TAP seems better suited for children who already fit their definition of "well-behaved" than for energetic, curious kids who need guidance and encouragement. Parents should keep that in mind before enrolling.

The website not allowing certain seats to be chosen and choosing seats for you. The vip add on was not available at ticket purchase and we had to communicate that to the tour for it to get added on the website. Next, the security team was overall the absolute rudest people we have ever encountered. We had multiple interactions 1. There was a medical emergency where the patient was waiting a very long time for medical. In the meantime we asked if they would like our fans to cool down the child. When one of the members of security screamed at us about our tickets. Which was not the question. 2. We were in the front row where we were standing and dancing. As soon as the show started we missed the first 10 minutes arguing with a member of security with her telling us to sit down. The artist had already asked people to stand, dance and have a good time three times. We have been to almost 30 shows with this particular artist all over the US including the Ryman and Carnegie Hall. Not once have we been told to sit down by security. We were watching a concert in an outdoor ampitheater NOT a library. In addition, this specific female security person was very rude. The artist witnessed what was happening and said for a FOURTH time stand up and dance. So finally security left us alone. This was definitely the worst experience we have ever had at a show. If I could leave a zero review I definitely would.

We had studied with 3 other teachers in the Cary area and we could not be happier finding Kellis. I totally see my kids studying under her until moving away to college! Kellis is a classically trained pianist. Her piano curriculum includes not only the piano playing techniques but also the musical theory and history about the pieces and the composers. She has a perfect balance of being nice and stern. She is extremely patient, however, she also sets clear expectations on practice. She encourages and prepares her students to compete in various piano competitions and festivals as ways to push and challenge them. She also participates in the National Guild program where students work towards a set of goals every year to continue to improve themselves. Annually she holds two formal recitals, as well as informal duet parties and other charitable performances. The lack of a call button or service app ending up making our experience even worse. We ordered one soda and one beer and AN HOUR into the movie everyone else in our row had been served full meals and I was forced to leave the movie to go find my server. I would have let it go but this place makes you PRE-PAY and PRE-TIP for what ends up being horrible service. At the service window I found my server and let him know it had been an hour and he said "we are trying to get drinks out" This was followed by snide comments from another server from within the stand. I'm sorry but if I don't have my order one hour into a two hour movie you have completely failed and shouldn't be marketing yourself as a food-based cinema experience. To make matters worse my seat was completely broken. No recline. I would have brought this up if I had seen my waiter at all in the first hour. Finally, for me the worst part of my experience is that they had glitching and stuttering on playback multiple times in the first and second reel. The one thing they should be flawless at is projecting a movie and they can't even do that correctly. I will NEVER be back to this theater. This is why theatrical attendance is down. This is why movies are dying. People can have a better experience at home. Congratulations on contributing to the death of the theater experience.
