What a cute little gem in the heart of Trinidad, CO. We stopped in last weekend on our drive home from Albuquerque. The vibe is good; I loved the charming little chandeliers over the booths. The lady running the front was helpful and pleasant. We got a glass of wine and a beer, both were enjoyable. The food was clearly made with super fresh and tasty ingredients. I ordered the Old Country salad. It was incredible. The roasted tomato puree on the salad was so tasty, I could have had an entire bowl of just that. There were lots of yummy toppings and I devoured it. My husband had a cold sandwich called The Miner. He said it was the best thing he'd eaten all weekend (on our trip). The ONLY thing about this place that is a tiny bit off ... it's a cash only establishment. Luckily we had some cash, I often do not. Apparently there is an ATM nearby. read more

Exceptional lunch option. Fresh salads, pastas and sandwiches. All prepared in house. Healthy choices, served promptly with comfortable seating. It appeared to me that there was only one person working the front register (where you order) and the same woman prepared the lunches and served. Amazing, how she was able to keep up with the constant flow, but she did. My turkey, avocado and pesto sandwich, served on a warm ciabatta roll was a perfect lunch. The fresh green salad was exceptional as well. When walking through Trinidad this cafe should be your place to stop for coffee, breakfast or lunch. We came in between the two so I ordered a lunch and my wife the breakfast. The Colorado St Chicken Salad was a foodgasm. Chicken salad with nuts and fruit on a croissant with a salad really nailed my need. The egg puff my wife ordered was so good she swore she would learn to make these at home. Combined with a friendly staff and a rustic shop floor made for a great experience. read more

Well, it could get a 4-star if they took credit card.... The food is not bad actually. Definitely worthwhile if you drive-by Trinidad during lunch time. Another thing that bothered me a little bit is that the owner lady asked the cashier to charge me $1.65 for tap water because they use biodegradable disposable cup. I am all for supporting the environment. In fact, I also choose to buy biodegradable disposable stuffs when I have to buy disposable stuffs, and I know they are a bit pricey. BUT, the ironic thing is....they use regular disposable straws which is just as bad if not worse. It's a bit hypocritical, I think. read more

Having made many a trip through Trinidad, I finally stopped into town for some food (instead of typical gas-n-go approach). The Café is an excellent option for a "real meal" when you're driving through town. Order at the counter for a handful of fresh salads, made-to-order sandwiches and paninis, as well as a full espresso menu and chilled beverages. Food is out quickly, they can package to-go, or grab a table and enjoy your food in-house. Definitely worth a stop if you're in town, or like me, just driving through! read more

We did not have a good experience at this restaurant and below are the reasons why: 1. The cashier was not welcoming and took our order while also serving others! Took forever. 2. They were out of many things on their menu. 3. The owner or manager approached us outside while sitting down in one of their tables and was not wearing a mask. Even after I told her that we were socially distancing, she kept trying to get close to us as she asked us to move closer to the street. One of our chairs was in the walking path of the sidewalk and yet she still wanted us to move the umbrella, table and chairs closer. Why not just wait until we are done eating to move it? Why assume we are okay with you getting close to us and attempt to move the umbrella on your own while the table is being occupied and without a mask? Anyway, put on a mask. Be polite to your customers. Food was ok. We would have gotten up to leave if we didn't have a hungry toddler with us waiting to get fed. read more

I came to The Cafe on a whim. Let me tell you I was overwhelmed with how good this joint is. Me and my partner each got #2 The Baca house and #3 The Mediterranean open faced sandwich. Both meals came with side salads and they were delicious. Both sandwiches were very good, especially the bread which tasted as if it was baked recently. After the sandwiches we had a blueberry muffin and lattes, both delectable and I found myself savoring every last bit. Will def come back again. Came here on our way from Texas and was looking for an easy, cheaper place to eat lunch. On the pictures it shows the sandwiches priced at 8-9 dollars each which we thought was great. We showed up and the menus didn't have prices so we went ahead and ordered. Two sandwiches later we spent 30 dollars not to mention it was cash only so I got charged extra to withdraw cash. The sandwiches were just ok, fairly small so not like you could share even though they were 15 dollars each. And that wasn't even including chips and a drink, just a side salad which was pretty small and super skimpy toppings and dressing wise. Yummy. Familiar feel for a CO small town cafe. Crowded when we got there around 11:30. Takes a while to get through the line to order at the counter, and there were only two women -- both of which seems frazzled and tired -- working both the register and carrying food to the tables, but it didn't take long for the food to arrive once we sat down. Wow. Don't let the small setup and cash only policy turn you away. What they manage to produce shouldn't be missed when you want to have lunch in Trinidad. The sandwiches are well crafted and fresh. The recipes are creative with wonderful flavors. Just simple bag-chips here, but their coffee drinks were good, and the side salad is full restaurant quality. I almost took off a star for the high price of food, but I remember the cumin and rhubarb pairing on my Ave Maria sandwich. How wonderfully delicious. I'd have never tasted that combo if it wasn't for this place, and that is worth the price for me. read more

This was a great spot to stop for lunch on a Sunday as we passed through Trinidad, CO. The staff were friendly and helpful and the sandwiches were made and brought to our table quickly. The food tasted good and was reasonably priced. The Café serves their sandwiches with a spring type mix of salad greens on the side. There were shredded carrots and shredded Parmesan as well as a balsamic dressing. Chips are available also for an extra charge. They offer coffee, iced tea and water as well as various sodas in bottles and cans. This was our second time passing through Trinidad. The first time we went to Cafe What a Grind and loved it. We wanted to go back there today (5/25/15) but they were closed for memorial day. So we swung by the cafe to see if they were open. They were so we went in. The woman behind the counter suggested the Ave and the Baca. We took her suggestion and ordered a vanilla latte and the truffle chocolate mocha as well. The price was $28. A little steep for 2 coffee's and 2 sandwhiches in my opinion but oh well. We sit down and she brings us our coffees. They are hot, look great, and are served in nice big/wide mugs that I love. We sip on the drinks while we wait for our food. Both are very good. The truffle mocha is (obviously) a more sweet and less of a coffee aficionado drink while the vanilla latte show cased the espresso much better. We enjoyed both. Once our sandwhiches arrived we were a bit disappointed. They looked good but at $9.00 a plate they fell a bit flat. I had the Ave and it was a little bit of turkey lunch meat with some strawberry jam and some Mediterranean seasonings. It tasted fine but it was definitely nothing special and not worth $9.00. It was so plain I'm not even sure what I would have been happy paying for it; I wouldn't really ever order something so basic out at a restaurant. I mean you could VERY easily recreate this at home...probably when you're low on groceries and only have random ingredients left (turkey lunch meat, bread, and strawberry jam). Their other food items didn't look like much either so if we return I will only get the coffee's and grab a bite to eat somewhere else. The coffee was definitely 5 stars while the food was 1 star. I'd much prefer going to Cafe What A Grind if I want food in addition to coffee. read more

Best breakfast / lunch spot in Trinadad? Could be. Could be. Friendly place right on main street with a couple of umbrella-ed tables in a street-side patio area, so you can watch all the exciting downtown life that Trinidad has to offer. Really well made and well seasoned egg dishes (their egg puffs are neat cupcake-like quiches stuffed with yummy things like green chiles, bacon and cheese) and served with a fresh green salad. A light and delicious lunch, that's for sure. read more
