We were surprised by the nicely updated establishment and interesting decor items. One of my pet peeves is not being greeted or acknowledged when first arriving at a restaurant or bar. That was no problem here! We immediately got a friendly hello and were brought our beverage of choice within a few minutes! We were then given a very nice menu, easy to read with a very nice selection from typical deep fried appetizers to traditional bar food up to some nice full menu dinner choices. We ordered the recommended meal of the day and WOW did that hit the spot. The owner actually made a stop by our table to assure everything was good. Had a nice chat with him and even given a short history of the area and his establishment. I would highly recommend this place. Next time we're in the area we will stop in again!

Then I asked for our cold slaw and she came back and told us they didn't have any. They could give us mashed potatoes (cook told her this). It was obvious that the cook was, I hate to say, but a jerk and not having a good day and taking it out on her. She was very nice. So, I asked for a salad and she was too I could have that. My husband never got his and we never got the rolls that were to come with the meal. They should be embarrassed to have that kind cook and what we experienced. I called the restaurant to speak directly with the owner (never caught him/there) then got his home number and either doesn't answer or whatever. His message recorder's always full. We could have taken care of this personally, but can't when you make it impossible. We will never............................return. I have a big voice and will pass the news on. And by the way, what the waitress experienced is harassment. I am take this further.

Ribs were good but they were not typical baby back as expected and came with a potato pancake with apple sauce. Fish fry was generous and served with cole slaw and baked potato. I spilt a wedge salad and it was delicious. Romaine lettuce split and loaded with blue cheese, tomato's, bacon and a blue cheese dressing. Kids had grilled cheese sandwich with fries, and the other had pasta with red sauce. Both meals were clean plate club. Our server was excellent. The meal was timed perfectly and we were kept informed as the night went on. Would definitely return. Recommend without any reservations. Ambience is special, well worth going early to check things out.

The lodge has about a dozen rooms or so, and while they're small they are perfectly fine for sleeping which is what most anyone around here is going to do anyway. I happened to be in town for a family reunion but a lot of folks are going to be here for the hunting, boating, or other recreational activities that the area has to offer. There's a small restaurant attached, which we didn't visit whilst here. But there were definitely folks from town stopping here and not just the few of us staying at the hotel. Honestly it was pretty unexpected that there was a restaurant/bar here given how small the place is, and there's not a TON of restaurants in the area, so it's a nice feature. The woman who checked us in was nice and showed us to our rooms. I really appreciate that they have serious locks on the doors, electronic locks--it helped me feel much more comfortable since the other deterrent to entry is a simple chain on the door. We had two rooms, one with two full or queen sized beds and the other, a family room, had a full bed and then a bunk. The bottom bed of the bunk beds was a full size. I wasn't expecting a bunk (though luckily wasn't planning on staying in that room) but it's important to know since a bunk isn't everyone's thing. What was unfortunate is that when my mom made the reservation back in April, she asked if they had cribs in the room as we'd be traveling with my newly one-year-old. The person said "oh yeah we should get one of those..." and assured her they would have one by late July, when we visited. When mom called in June they said they didn't have one. Rather than make my mom stress about finding a new place I bought a play yard for the baby but that pretty disappointing and made for more for us to have to travel with. They also seem to have only showers, no bathtubs (at least in the two rooms our party was spread amongst) and the water smelled a little strange, perhaps just well water; not a sulfury smell. Overall a very casual place. There's ample parking here, more than will ever be needed for this lodge. The A-Frame doors are open 24 hours. Given the location and type of accommodation, though, they aren't open 24 hours for check-in. You'll want to be sure you confirm when you can check in and then make sure you'll be there in plenty of time to do so. There's not a check-in desk or anything, so just head to the bar.

We had the cajun alfredo penne pasta with grilled chicken and a house salad, and the 16 oz ribeye, medium rare, with beurre blanc sauce, a loaded baked potato and wild rice soup. The pasta was a hit, with the penne cooked al dente (which 85% of places can't seem to accomplish) but we did wish the cajun aspect was spicier. The steak was cooked medium rare and had nice seasoning, it just didn't seem to be that good of quality as it wasn't very tender. The real star was the soup. We heard a table raving about it before it got crowded and they were right, it was delectable.
