Wisco Tx Cafe - Wonderful Mexican skillet

I ordered a grilled cheese with fries (a childhood classic) and my boyfriend ordered the WiscoTex Skillet. My grilled cheese was so nostalgic of growing up in Wisconsin. We also split some cheese curds, which are a Wisconsin staple. They did them perfectly. My boyfriend said his skillet was flavorful and hearty, taking some to go with him. The service was amazing. Our server discussed how she lived in Wisconsin, not even 30 minutes from where I grew up. This was a casual dinning experience. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, we felt no rush to leave. You have to check this place out- come ready for some cheese!

This is definitely the home of the skillet. I ordered the house skillet, and my husband customized his with the "make your own" option. The food came out sizzling hot on actual skillets. A lot of other restaurants just serve their skillet dishes in regular bowls, so this was a huge bonus! On top of that, the skillet meals come with your choice of pancakes, toast, or a biscuit with gravy. The portions were incredibly filling, and we both had to take leftovers home. We will definitely be back!

We entered on a weekday mid afternoon and was greeted with a friendly hello and any help to see the menu. There were no paper menus, just the menu up on the screens above the counter. There are few sandwiches and salads, but they all looked very good so we chose the Cuban Press and Turkey Pesto Press sandwiches. After a short wait, we got our orders each on a silver tray with nicely presented half cut sandwiches and homemade chips. The Cuban press sandwich was warm, filled with seasoned chopped pork and sliced ham melted with cheese and brown mustard on a grilled ciabatta bread. It was really good like a comfort food. The turkey pesto had two thick, sliced turkey breast, warmed with freshly made pesto spread, which bloomed with the bright green color and the smell of prime freshness, and nestled with melted cheese on a grilled ciabatta bread. The first bite really welcomed the combo of warm turkey and fresh pesto. Delicious! The homemade chips were super delicious and we ate every single piece. The sandwiches were so large that we had enough to take home for another meal. The dining room was small and cozy and had two tall tables, 2 medium tables and one couple size table in the corner. Service was super friendly and sincere. Their workers really cared about the food and making it right the first time. This really is a foodie place. They had bottled wines on the wall to select from and another small cooler with chilled wines and specialty beers. They had fresh made sides upfront and desserts, but we skipped this time. Definitely something worth getting on another visit. This place was very clean. Bathroom was well taken care of. This place is in a small strip mall and is definitely worth stopping by just right off the interstate. When we're around this area again, we'd certainly will stop by again.

My husband said the cuban sandwich literally redeemed cuban sandwiches in general because he usually doesn't enjoy them but thought this one was very good. I also thought it was great because we split it. It was warm and the flavors were on point. The customer service was over the top. The cashier offered us a nut sample and our 3 year old enjoyed those. then the other employee gave our 3 year old some fresh fruit for free as we waited for our to go food. It was so thoughtful! The sandwiches come with the freshly seasoned chips. The inside is clean and set up well. Highly recommend this place!

But we remembered how good the fried fish was here so we went back for another try. Sat at a table, Bryce was our server (he was very friendly and helpful). I ordered the house Pinot Grigio. After a few minutes he came back and said they were out. He offered the more expensive next choice for same type of wine and I agreed. Again, they were out; reason given that they were rotating those 2 wines off the menu. He said they had a few new ones not on the menu, one of which I recognized as reasonably priced, so I ordered it (mind you, fridays happy hour is half off wine bottles). I ordered the Ecco. No cold container was ever provided to keep it in. Bryce brought me some ice after a bit. Food came. Cauliflower was SO tasty! Chorizo taquitos were really good as well. We split the fish but added bacon wrapped shrimp and a crab cake. Most of this was really sad. The fish portion was tiny in comparison to what we'd previously experienced. Carb cake was cold and mushy. Fries were fine. Bacon wrapped shrimp was good, except the bacon on the inner wrapped part that was flabby. Bill comes. Ecco was $20 AT half price. I pay half that retail and we all know they pay less than that. Then a lady comes over (maybe a manager, she never introduced herself) and told us there were cases of the first wine I had ordered in the back. I guess it was too much work for them to look when I ordered? Or maybe this was the ole bait and switch. Because they never offered to charge for the price I should have paid for what I wanted, to make up for their "mistake". Sounds intentional to me. I can show you - Ecco is no $40 bottle of wine. Won't be back. As a side note, Lambeaus and Shoal Creek Tavern have same ownership as Verfs, so beware!!!
