Moved into the building last May while the pandemic was still hot and heavy. The tour was self-guided and was seamless. Fast-forward 10 months later, and I'm happy to say that I'm still satisfied with my decision to move here. Location: SUPER convenient. I think this alone is a huge selling point. jay st/metrotech is your hub. R train is 50 steps from the building entrance. ACF is one block away. borough hall for the 45, hoyt for the 23, and hoyt/schermerhorn for the G are all within a five minute walking distance. walking distance to TWO trader joes, smith street for food and drinks, atlantic avenue for basically everything. Building/Amenities: 51 floors with a rooftop deck that encompasses half of the floor and the single PH suite has the other half. huge gym. game room/lounge. additional patio deck. parking garage for extra on site. laundry room is meh but lots of units have their own W/D so that's why it's small for a building this size. it's often dirty and has broken machines, but it's not a huge issue for me. Staff: Honestly the best I could ask for. The concierge crew is the heart and soul of the building. without them, it wouldn't function. they have great personalities, remember your face and name basically from the first day, and also manage sorting packages and now the gym reservations. honestly superstars. Kwazi, Carl, Peter. Great team. Maintenance crew has been quick with their responses and helpful throughout, even during the peak of the pandemic. Michael has solved much of my hardware issues without fail. Communication: Email has been the primary source of communication due to COVID19. Jeffrey has been my main point of contact throughout my brooklyner experience, and he is prompt with his emails and is helpful every time! My only qualm is the laundry room, really. and it's not even the biggest deal. The location and concierge staff are more than enough to have me sold. I would still recommend living here. read more

The agent that showed me the apts name is ALTON. He was so GREAT and PATIENT in showing me these apts (Make sure u ask for him he was AMAZING)!!! He showed me several different apts..answering all questions and I really have to say that I LOVED these apts! I'm actually moving out of my apt this year and looking for some options so I decided to stop by and give this location a try. Although it is located downtown Brooklyn..the advantage is that it places you at the heart of everything ..from the financial district..the Barclay center etc. The only disadvantage about the location is it can be rough trying to maneuver through traffic just to come home. The apts themselves are very beautiful with AMAZING views (depending on which one you get!) They have very attractive amenities. There is an outside terrace ..a conference room..yoga room and a gym all included. I was very impressed ! read more

Moving to New York for the first time was really overwhelming, but thanks to the staff at The Brooklyner, it's been a breeze. When I first toured buildings around the city, The Brooklyner was the fourth of the eight total apartment complexes I toured in a single day. By the time I left their property, I called my other four appointments and canceled. I knew where I wanted to live. In the past year of living at The Brooklyner, I've absolutely loved being a resident in the building. The amenities are fantastic, from the gym to the lounge to the rooftop -- the latter which I frequently show out-of-town visitors so they can see all of Manhattan at any time of the day. The location of the building is incredibly convenient, with many subway stops in close proximity, including the A/C, F, R, 2/3 and 4/5 trains. I rarely ever find myself having to change trains en route to somewhere in the greater New York City area. The Brooklyner staff have been amazing. I've built a great relationship with many of the concierge staff, including Kwazi, Curtis and Peter, each who have gone out of their way to help me on multiple occasions. The maintenance staff, led by building service director Jose, has also been very helpful when needed. And the leasing office staff have made things easy for me, too, which is why I decided to stay for more than a year. The Brooklyner is a great place to live if you're looking for easy access to Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as short commutes to John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in Queens. I'd recommend this building to anyone looking for a nice, luxury apartment in New York City. read more

I've lived at the Brooklyner since it opened in 2010. My views are incredible and I am daily grateful for my apartment and the great staff. I've known some of the staff for almost ten years, and they remain consistently attentive, prompt and thorough. The brooklyner is two minutes away from almost every subway, on the edge of NYU campus which has the sweetest little park you'll ever sit in and in walking distance of many great restaurants. It's my home, and you'd be smart to make it yours! read more

Pretty decent apartments so far and in a good area we haven't had any issues with anything.

I thought I would update my review since I cannot add another one, thanks to this building I had to buy all new towels and sheets because after three times of trying to fix both the washer and dryer and NOT getting a new one even though there was clearly a problem with it, all the items in the dryer are still soaking wet and useless because they smell. (the maintenance crew is amazing though but unfortunately they have to listen to the manager) I find it funny though outside there are a ton of washers and dryers they got rid of, mine still wasn't one of them, oh and your rent money is going to the stupid plastic bracelets they used for the 4th of July party instead of just maybe making a list and checking ID's, good luck even getting a spot if you live here. lived here for two years with my husband, and was very happy with everything! location are great with so many good restaurants, Trader Joes and Target nearby with all the stores! There are so many subway options too. if you take Q train you will be in 34rd Herald square in like 15-20 min. One of the apartment amenity I really liked was the roof top with fantastic Manhattan view, and dry cleaning pick up and drop off (they have very reasonable price for the tenants in the building) as well as large gym and laundry room! I lived in the building for two years. Loved it at first. The apartments are on the small side. As time went on, problems started to appear. The floors are very cheap material. Cracks in the walls would form as the building 'settled'. They sell you with the view and ammenities but that only goes so far. Doormen are hit or miss - one of them is very unfriendly. Rules in regards to guests have gotten stricter. The immediate neighborhood is awful - very busy, nowhere to park, screaming kids everywhere. I was mostly happy there but the move out process left me with a very bad taste. One of the leasing agents was hard to get a hold of, and informed me automatic rent payments would stop before my last month there. My lease was ending April 4, but automatic payments stopped in March, not April. That was not clear to me, and thus I ended up with a $150+ late payment fee that Equity refused to waive. I had always paid my rent on time prior to this. The cleaning & painting that was required after my move out cost more than $300. I ended up OWING the building money after they took my entire deposit. Very unfriendly staff, very unhelpful. Extremely unsympathetic. I would not recommend because of this terrible experience. read more

I've realized how fortunate we have been to live at The Brooklyner and that this 5 star rating is long overdue. The service here is the best. You really feel personally well taken care of, from the front desk and mail folks up to the leasing people. Several buildings we looked at had questionable hospitality. The gym is gigantic and has every machine/weights you need. Laundry machines could use an update but they have enough that you can always find one. Most importantly, you have Trader Joe's, Khims market, and literally every single train within walking distance. A great building to live in read more

I recently moved to the Brooklyner from Manhattan (in search of more space) and really can't say enough good things about this place! It's true what others say about the building... The amenities are fantastic, and I'm very happy with my unit. I have a spacious loft style apartment with high ceilings and tons of closet space! The people here are also fantastic, from the staff at the front desk to the maintenance guys. They're always friendly, and more importantly, you can tell they really care about making sure you're a happy resident. If you're interested in checking this place out, ask for Elanna in the leasing office. She is extremely professional and incredible to work with (I'm certain the other people in the leasing office are, too)! Sure, the rent might be on the pricey side for Brooklyn and they have strict credit standards, but as the saying goes... You get what you pay for, and you also won't feel like you're living in a frat house. read more

My now husband and I lived in the largest 1br floor plan they offer for a little over four years. We had an L unit with breathtaking views of Manhattan, the bay and beyond. All in all, I loved our little home. I always felt uneasy about gentrifying the area, though. We first moved in when the building was maybe 1/3 occupied. Our floor, 26, didn't have finished floors or walls in the hallway yet. Which was fine with us because it was quiet and we felt the rent was reasonable. The Fulton Mall area didn't have nearly any of the shine you see now, feeling more like an actual suburban mall with Gap and H&M and what not. The area is ridiculously convenient. I liked to say that, in terms of the subway lines and stops that are within a few blocks of the building, its more convenient than Times Square. Having a 24 hour Duane Reade a block away can't be beat. The grocery store that moved in downstairs is sometimes iffy, often overpriced, but as convenient as it gets. Make sure to check the labels, though. More than once I've found outdated food on the shelves. The vast majority of the doormen are great and the main handyman, Danny, is very friendly and attentive. At least in our unit, we found it to be very quiet in our apartment, save for neighbors' dogs barking. The walls feel very thick and solid, probably due to the concrete construction. There were definitely consistent problems, though. For starters, after our second year, we gave up on our heaters working properly/consistently. The thermostat means nothing. We learned some of the tricks to get the forced heat vent to stay open more, but we'd routinely come home to cranked up heating units we didn't turn on, showing strange error codes and often only ever getting them to blow cold air. They have contractors come in when you complain about the units, but all they ever do is reset them, deem them to be working and leave. The floor covering, outside of tiled kitchens and bathrooms, is cheap. I mean the cheapest of cheap. We were the first people to occupy our unit and they were splintering when we did our move-in walk through. We routinely got splinters and with the lightest of wear the edges of the small tiles wear down and look cheap. The management company billed us over $900 to replace tiles on move out. Granted, there were two perhaps hand-sized areas that had more wear than normal, though exacerbated by the cheapness of the wood tiles. There are little annoyances that, when you're paying this kind of rent, really add up. For example, there's one porter that fills in as a doorman in the evenings when the other doorman is on break. He seems to get packages from the mailroom for people he likes but refuses to for others. Its very irritating when you can't get access to your own property. The worst thing is the laundry room. We had a unit with no washer and dryer and were so completely dependent on the totally ill-equipped laundry room. Who thinks that having less than ten washers and dryers each for a ~500 unit building makes sense!? Even if there are small washers/dryers in many units. The poor machines were running near 24/7 with inadequate maintenance, so they were constantly breaking down, ruining my clothes, eating my money. And that's when I could actually get in to do laundry. Forget it on the weekends. Its very frustrating when there are stupid things like a room dedicated to dog baths but not enough laundry facilities. I miss our amazing view, but our time at The Brooklyner was when Fulton Mall still looked like Fulton Mall, when the people who occupied the building were largely down-to-earth people who were taking advantage of the relative bargain. Over time the residents have changed and the area has tilted a bit too far toward that suburban mall. If you're into shine, take a look. But be prepared for the annoyances. read more

This review pertains solely to the leasing office. I was told they could not process my application without the application review fee and the holding deposit fee of $750.00. Before I agreed, I asked when I'd recieve my holding deposit back if I didn't get the apartment and I was told 2-3 business days. After notification I didn't get the apartment, I asked again when I'd get my holding deposit back and I was told 5-7 business days via email. After 7 business days, the same person who told me 5-7 business days via email changed her tune and said 7-10 business days. I'm still waiting on my holding deposit and the application process took less than 24 hours. BEWARE of the aplication process and know if dinged it will be extremely difficult to get your money back. The building was lovely, the leasing office HORRIBLE. read more

I had a horrible experience applying for an apartment in this building, so much so that I decided against living here entirely. I found a studio unit that worked for me, and decided to apply because the price was right. After I submitted my application and paid a $750 HOLDING fee on the unit, I was informed that that unit had already been rented to another person while I was dealing with technical issues accessing one of their online guarantor forms. Fine. They then offered me another unit of the exact same layout at a FAR higher price on a higher floor, but offered 2.5 months free on the first year. I hesitantly agreed to transfer my application and deposit to this unit. After fully submitting the application for this unit along with - let me say this again - my $750 HOLDING fee, I was informed that "the corporate office took this one off the site this afternoon." Shortly after I was told this unit is no longer available, they inform me that my application "was approved," and then they start trying to get me to take an even more expensive unit on a higher floor with the same 2.5 month concession. At this point, it felt like nothing more than a bait-and-switch scam to me. I argued with the leasing office a bit, suggesting that me paying a $750 holding fee should guarantee me the apartment I paid the fee toward, and requested that they honor the price of the second unit I applied for, allowing me to rent the other identical studio with that price + deal. After a few days of back and forth, they absolutely refused to budge on any prices. I demanded my money back and moved on. They returned the """holding""" fee, but refused to return the application fees. In the end, I am out $40 and a week of my time, and I still don't have an apartment to move into next month. read more

We moved in two weeks ago and so far things seem to be going great. Staff are very helpful, the amenities are new and seem to be in great condition. The gym, the lounge, the yoga room- everything is in great condition and really elevates the residential experience. Needless to mention but the neighborhood is super convenient for commute to anywhere in Manhattan as well as for any home, clothes and grocery shopping. The trash room is well maintained and there's one on each floor adding extra convenience. The view from out apt is breathtaking. All the appliances in the kitchen are sparkling new. Finally, when we moved in the place was surprisingly clean- including bathtub and sinks- definitely added comfort for a clean freak like myself. Do not share the laundry complaints- did two rounds so far, one on a midweek night and one on a Friday night and never had any availability problems. The machines are new and the room is super clean. Things on which I agree with other reviewers- The quality of the floors is far from amazing. Didn't have any problems thus far and hope not to get to the stories of other people where they were charged for damage as the floors are definitely the weaker spot in the apt and some splinters and wear are likely to occur no matter how careful I am. Accessing your mail after 8 pm when the concierge leaves is indeed a problem as the doormen are not particularly helpful with that. But this is not a major concern for me personally. The heating situation could be better. It's all ac units- not traditional heating and while they seem to be working fine, this makes for an extremely dry air in the apt- especially in the bedroom. And as with any ac- it's super hot while it works and quickly gets freezing when it turns off. Leaving it working all the time is really not healthy for the human body. One more personal thing that I don't like is florescent lighting in the kitchen and the bathroom. Why?! With such amazing amenities in the apt and the building, this kinda ruins the mood for me but not a huge deal. Overall it's a great deal, especially with the special price offers. No apt is perfect and the problems here are really not major compared with the massive advantages. Will see how it goes with the hiking rent in two tears! (My lease is 24 months). read more

Amazing apartment with breath-taking views and lots of amenities. I am totally jelly of my friends living here. It's close to all the major subways into manhattan and the rest of brooklyn. There's a varitey of favtory stores close by (banana republic, express, nordstrom rack, etc.) Many renters have pets here. My friend owns 2 baby kitties and 2 cute hamsters. Doormen are friendly too. If you put your friends or petsitters on the guest list, they can get the room key for the apartment to help you out if you're away. They just need to leave their ID at the front desk. read more

Non-smokers should be extremely wary about renting at The Brooklyner, which is touted as a "smoke-free" building. Management fails quite miserably at enforcing the non-smoking policy, among other things. You would do well to take your money elsewhere. read more

I've lived at the Brooklyner for 5 years and my experience here has been great! It's quite affordable for what you get all things considered; very convenient location, 24-hour security, responsive maintenance crew, spacious units, multiple outdoor spaces with grills (perfect for entertaining), large gym, dry cleaning services, and best of all its pet friendly. But what really makes this building stand out is that the staff has done an amazing job at developing a sense of community and safety. The OG doormans- Peter, Kwazi, and Curtis who are always so attentive and helpful. And the management team are very quick to repair damages, typically within 48hours (at most). It's certainly nice to have an awesome team that you can always count on. Overall, I give the brooklyner and its staff the 5 stars they deserve! read more

My husband and I moved into The Brooklyner before they even completed any floors higher than 21. We were excited at first but after a few months, we started noticing the quality (or lack thereof) of the unit. In comparison to the price we were paying, it was a huge disappointment. The floors started splintering and there were a couple of times where I stepped in the wrong spot and had to remove a splinter from my foot. Our washer and dryer had to be replaced twice. The walls constantly scuffed and it got so bad we had to request paint to do the touchup work ourselves. The door handles and faucets were loose by the time we moved out. After it's all said and done, what we enjoyed most was being so close to the subway and the 10 minute walk to get to Carroll Gardens. Last but not least, the staff is very friendly. Oh, and the dogs. They were friendly, too. read more

Great location, B line studio layout is not easy to furnish. I had to terminate the lease couple of weeks after the lease renewal due to circumstances that i have no control on and they were not helpful during the lease cancellation process and requested 6 weeks rent. Altough i have described my situation several times they were not helpful at all. This is a corporation without human touch and constantly changing real estate agents so dont trust any of their words they may not be there next week. Overall i wish i have used other buildings since this place is just another corporation that is after your money without any sympathy at all. read more

I've lived in this building for 3 years and have recently moved out. My view was spectacular and they allow large breed dogs, but the building falls short in just about every other category. Most of the doormen are unfriendly and lazy. The laundry facilities are an absolute disaster and the shared outdoor spaces are packed with non-residents When it came time to renew my lease this year my rent for the next year went up $500. When i opted out of renewal the unit was re-posted at a rate lower than my rate from this past year. Upon move out i was charged with an additional $300 in painting and cleaning fees to prepare the apartment for it's next residents. I will never rent from Equity Apartments again. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE VIEWS. this place is a rip off. read more

I moved into this building from Manhattan, enthused by the incredible view I would have in my A-line apartment of the beautiful city that I loved. But instead I got an atrocious view of their appalling customer service. When I moved in, I was given a plethora of incentives that they dangle in front of you to get you to sign on the dotted line. But those deals are purely to get you to sign away your happiness. As many others have noted in their reviews, the building is cheaply built, and no shining view can make up for the fact that I am bombarded 24-7 by the sound of the ventilation/HVAC in the buildings below my floor, which surround me on all sides. In addition to that noise pollution, the constant barking of the neighbor's dog that sounds as though it were coming from my own apartment; the walls are that thin. But despite all that, I could be happy here, and stay for the duration of my lease, if the building's management made even an iota of effort to make things right. Instead of the "total satisfaction guarantee" I was promised when I signed my lease, they have made zero effort to come up with solutions for my issues, despite numerous emails which have been left unanswered. If you are looking for a quiet place to feel at home, don't lease in this building. read more

I cannot be more happy with this building. I just moved in and I am enjoying every minute of being here: 1) the leasing office is very professional and helpful, they go above to beyond to give a perspective customer a great experience. Stine Ankersen, the leasing consultant, showed me more apartment that I initially planned to see and I ended up renting the apartment that I didn't plan but felt in love with. 2) the application process is paperless and not bureaucratic, I didn't have to collect a file of scanned documents, but just to fill an online application. All background checks are done online for 30 second. I visited the building at 5 pm on Monday , next day at noon I already had my lease signed 3) the neighborhood is amazing - young, vibrant, full of tech students and young professionals. Everything is here - shops, pharmacies, food market, multiple restaurants, craft breweries, coffee bars and wine bars.. I have 2,3,R,A,C,F subways lines within 2 blocks radius, additional 4,5,G lines are within 6 blocks. 4) the building itself is amazing: all possible amenities , except for a pool, are here. Gym is huge, has windows, dozens of different pieces of gym equipment and a yoga studio. The roof deck is unbelievable , located in the 51st floor with a view on Manhatten, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn and Manhatten bridges. Amenities are included in the rent price which is not a common but a very pleasant perk. There are several other common areas in the building where one may hide and work quietly. Common areas have a strong free WiFi signal... I can talk A lot about my new home because I LOVE IT. read more
