AMAZING fair! I grew up a farm girl, 10 year 4-H member and have been to numerous fairs throughout…read moremy life. This, by far, is the BEST county fair I've ever been to. The buildings are all in excellent condition. The number of vendors is incredible. The rides, omgosh, there were so many rides and games. The beef and pork producers each have VERY NICE, big steel buildings with at least 10 full size picnic tables inside them for people to use. The line to get into these buildings was at least 20-30 people deep. They really moved the people through! The Sheep producers had a nice food trailer. There are 2 cafeteria/restaurants inside the grandstands. 6 passenger golf carts driving around the parking lots offering people rides. Last, the crowd was HUGE! I've only seen more people at a fair, at the state fair! When leaving, there was a line at least a quarter of a mile long WAITING to get into the fair! (No big name concert tonight to draw this type of crowd.) This county REALLY knows how to put on an incredible fair! Way to go Hardin County fair!

We had a homeschool event hosted by someone from the Ohio Gourd Society where we learned all about the different varieties of gourds, ways they can be used, the history, and got to do a free painted gourd craft. I'm not ashamed to say gourds may be my new favorite art medium! Affordable, natural, and incredibly versatile. It's on every year the first full weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) in October. Saturday is the most popular day, with music and more vendors. There is a huge display of gourd crafts up for judging in a couple dozen categories. People are so clever and talented! The fairgrounds is a great location - lots of free parking, easy to get to, classroom and learning spaces, restrooms, etc. I wish there were more food vendors but this is a very small, free event so manage your expectations! FYI: The Ohio Gourd Society really wants more people to come and get interested! If you're an artist or crafter, I highly recommend you consider it. They're a good group of people!

This is a relatively new property in Marion. I think it has only been open 2-3 months. After…read moreturning off the main drag, there is a traffic light that marks the entrance to the parking lot, but it (the traffic light) has not been activated yet. There is not even a large sign that lets the public know that this hotel exists. I am quite impressed with this place. It is a three-story hotel with all the basic amenities of home; hence, the name..."My PlaceHotel". It has an adequate lobby that has sturdy seating (some sofas and low chairs as well as a couple of bistro sets) and a large tv. The check-in area reminded me more of a curved bar than a hotel desk reception area. Next to it is the convenience store/pantry, which offers a nice variety of items, from foods, pharmaceuticals, and even housewares. At check-in, I wondered why this store sold pots, pans and other kitchen items. My room amenities would later answer this question for me. Once we went into the room, we were greeted by a FULL-SIZE refrigerator & microwave, coffee maker, spacious cabinets and a small sink, complete with cloth towels, paper towels and liquid dish soap. All these things were in the kitchen area. WHAT?!?! For hanging clothes storage, there is a nice-sized closet that houses a full-size ironing board, iron, hangers and a large clothes basket. While the bathroom was not overly spacious, it had an adequate size and contained my personal favorite- Neutragena brand toiletries. The size of our room with 2 queen-size beds was a bit more spacious than the typical hotel room. There was actually ample space to walk between the end of the bed and the desk that is against the wall. In terms of space, It really seems like this room is wheelchair accessible even though it is on the 2nd floor. I hope the other rooms in the hotel have similar dimensions and spaciousness. For recreation, there is a covered picnic area with two charcoal grills, a few tables and numerous chairs. Since the hotel is pet-friendly, there are about four stations around the grounds that supply bags for you to clean up after your beloved pet. Let me repeat... I just cannot stress just how impressed I am with this property. It offers just about all the amenities of home including a friendly and helpful staff. I believe we have found the place that we will stay on our repeated trips to Marion.

I went with my family for Easter lunch and was a little disappointed in the quality of the food this time. Everything is homemade from scratch though. They usually have this killer shredded roast beef that is mouth-watering and juicy but this time they only had ham, some weird chicken, and fried chicken wings for the meat options. I was disappointed. Now, their sides are a different story. They had delicious mac and cheese, an alfredo pasta, and green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes. Sweet potatoes=bomb.com. Green beans=delicious. They also randomly had spaghetti with marinara sauce. The spaghetti was dry and chewy but the sauce was fine. Nothing stellar about it though. For drinks, they offer lemonade, water, tea, and coffee. Keep in mind that the majority of the people that frequent this place on Sundays are older folks who like a good home cooked meal on the cheap. You really can't beat $13 for how much food you can get. And it's all home made. Their desserts were fine. They had a chocolate mousse thing, a strawberry banana thing, and something else that I can't remember. I don't care for nut crusts which was all these had but if you enjoy that type of thing, great. There really isn't any service except for plate-clearing. You pay at a table before you go in and sit down wherever unless you have a reservation, which we had. There are lots of older retired ladies that work there and they are just as sweet as can be.
