The menu, pictures (and Yelp reviews!) looked great so I booked on-line for the 2.30 lunch slot giving us plenty of time to enjoy our morning. Unfortunately, we were ten minutes late due to traffic, and when we arrived we were told that we would have to order quickly as the kitchen shuts at three. We were rapidly seated and lingered over while we perused the menu. We started with a glass of Prosecco each and I hastily went for the pork belly and my partner went for the celeriac risotto. We didn't order starters, and I didn't really get chance to have a proper look at this part of the menu. While the children's menu is substantial, it is definitely aimed at the older ones and there wasn't really anything suitable for my 15 month old. This wasn't a problem as we knew he could share ours, plus we had brought reserves! The food came quickly and was very tasty, I couldn't fault either dish but before I had even finished mine, the waitress came round with dessert menus saying that we would have to order straight away if we wanted one. I think this is the first time that I have been made to order dessert before I have finished my main! My rhubarb and ginger cake was good but my partner was a little disappointed with his cheesecake. We ordered tea and coffee to finish and were finally able to relax. Although I can't complain about the food or the friendliness of the staff, the fact that we were rushed so much from the minute we walked in put a dampener on the experience for me. If you are not prepared to serve dinner in an unhurried fashion, don't take a booking at that time. Yes, we were 10 minutes late which was entirely our fault, but we could have also ordered starters delaying the whole process even further.

Well cooked & presented. The tuna was cooked perfectly moist & pink. They were running Larkins & good old London Pride but most impressive was their Caledonian bitter range - as rare as hens teeth in these parts! I'd heard they keep their beer well & the Chocolate Drop was delicious - really, really drinkable. The interior is classy and, I understand, the food good. Top marks to the barman there - phone lines were all down in the locale & I didn't have enough cash for my large round. He served me it all anyway & asked me to pay when I next passed! What a toff. Well worth a visit, fellow Qypers....

Helen (the English landlady) is excellent at what she does. Her Greek husband, Michael, prepares really good food. On Thursday nights they always have fresh fish, and the haddock and chips is consistently good and among the best I have ever eaten. It's best to phone for a table reservation on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evenings and/or for Sunday lunch.

The menu is extensive and includes lots of favorites like pork belly (looked great) for hungry lunchers. However, it also had the ubiquitous ham egg and chips, loved by so many and (as I discovered) a great chili jacket potato (Judi had the equally delicious bacon & Brie version) All this is accompanied by glorious 'funnies' on the wall of the bar, the beams, and in the lavatories - e.g. "If I had a pound for every time somebody told me to grow up I'd have the coolest train set ever" (see if you can find it!) If I hadn't got the best local ever in the Griffin's Head at Chillenden, I'd move to Ide Hill just to claim The Cock as my own. Do try it.!

The first time we went in, it was a little Royston Vasey but we were soon made to feel super welcome. Nothing is too much and everyone is always on hand to lend advice or time. We love it! Sue and Colin that run it are GREAT and Chris who sometimes works behind the bar is a gem. They have beer festivals a few times a year with fab hog roasts and fine ales. Steak nights on a friday with local steak .... and ... wait for it ... Dominos!!!! I hear you snort .. but after a few beers on a week night..there is nothing better than supping and playing dominos.. highly competitive! I am sorry if I offended anybody by putting an incorrect review. I have never been to The Chequers Inn Kemsing, but I do know a few of their locals who love it here. It is supposed to be one of the nicest pubs in the area, very old with lots of character and charm. I have driven past and it certainly looks very impressive. I will be visiting The Chequers Inn very soon so I can apologise to the owners personally. I must apologise once again, if you happened to read my review yesterday.

It is no longer so much a traditional pub as it appears from the outside, but more emphasis on the restaurant side of it. Fine with us, it was the only cooked food source within easy walking distance our cottage in the country. What good food it was, as good and wholesome as anything served in our 'foodie' neck of the woods here in the San Francisco Bay area. With cheeses like Winterdale Shaw, (they have their own dairy herd, and chalk lined cellar to mature the cheese in), and Bloomy Rinded Somerset Brie, it was a pleasure dining there.
