Good Grief - this is a wonderful pub! For a start, it's a real locals' pub and dog are definitely welcome (as are children who don't offend the ghost!) but, despite signs saying the locals are grumpy, they are very welcoming indeed - as are the landlord and his staff!
The menu is extensive and includes lots of favorites like pork belly (looked great) for hungry lunchers. However, it also had the ubiquitous ham egg and chips, loved by so many and (as I discovered) a great chili jacket potato (Judi had the equally delicious bacon & Brie version)
All this is accompanied by glorious 'funnies' on the wall of the bar, the beams, and in the lavatories - e.g. "If I had a pound for every time somebody told me to grow up I'd have the coolest train set ever" (see if you can find it!)
If I hadn't got the best local ever in the Griffin's Head at Chillenden, I'd move to Ide Hill just to claim The Cock as my own. Do try it.! read more
