DO NOT LIVE HERE! It's cheap and close to school...that's the only good thing about this place. Moving in the advertised that it would be fully furnished and move in ready. That was false advertisement we are missing half of our furniture, the whole place was absolutely filthy as if no one even went in to check up on the place. There are holes in the apartment we are missing parts of our apartment such as handles to our microwave and drawers in the kitchen. It reeks in there and smells like a sewage line. We have made so many complaints to them and nothing has been change whatsoever. It is not a safe place to live there cases of vandalism and crackheads running around and yelling. This is a good place if you need something quick and cheap. It comes with free Wi-Fi, a balcony/patio/washer & dryer & it's furnished already but there are a lot of maintenance issues for some reason... my toilet was clogged for a week before anybody could get to it and when I lost my key I was locked out and had to leave a voicemail nobody ever responded I had to walk to the office to buy another key which was $250 choose your own roommates if you can I put on my application that I was allergic to cats but was still paired with someone ... with a cat... & when asked to switch units was told I would have to pay a fee ??? I didn't last 1 year staying at this place. Would have been a better experience if management were more professional! read more

I visited my daughter and her 3 roommates this weekend. Despite many calls to the management for maintenance, problems have gone unaddressed. This weekend I was shocked by the roaches that roam the cabinets. I visited the front office and asked that the manager call me. I haven't heard a peep. The rent went up considerably this year...the girls pay almost $2000 for a 3 bedroom and the should not be dealing with the filth. I've contacted the ECU Off Campus Housing department to discuss this bad issue that is apparently rampant there. read more

Terrible customer service. Within less than 1 day of emailing everyone about repainting the parking lot they towed everyone and had no other way of communicating about towing. Tons of people went to class then came home to not having their car there anymore. In addition they are charging me liable for damages that aren't my fault. Terrible service and should be ashamed. I went to visit my friend over the summer, and this is where she lives and works. The office is pretty much as shitty as it sounds: no organization, understaffed as hell, and it just looks poorly managed. Also, when I went in to wait for my friend, I noticed that the manager had a COMPLETELY different attitude with the black tenants than she did with the white ones. Juuuuuuust saying that's pretty f-Ed up. Now to the apartment: disgusting. The WiFi was so bad that I had to use data just to be able to contact my parents so they knew I made it safely while I was visiting. She talked about having to constantly use raid in the kitchen (that was well kept up and cleaned) just to not have a huge cockroach infestation. I've never seen an apartment with such bad problems before. read more

The Bower is the most unprofessional, disgusting place I have ever lived. The only reason they have good reviews is because they give kids free stuff to post a five star reviews and make their staff do it as well. When we moved in our apartment smelled like it had a dead animal in the air vents which we were told would 'take some time to fix'. Parts of the fridge and stove never worked, walls and floors were nasty and beat up, and nothing was ever fixed when we requested. Our neighbors had very loud domestic abuse issues causing us to call the cops over and over... and they left piles of rotten trash on their porch making our porch useless. ALL OF WHICH the bower states they could do no thing about... even though they had no issues threatening entire buildings by email that they would walk our apartments and add charges to our rent for other minute issues. After all of this... we move out and they conveniently 'lose' our move in papers documenting the damages that were there when we arrived and decide to charge us for things that we didn't even do. The rents are cheap and the apartment itself is just okay. The management is very poor. They are not organized and they give you the run around whenever you have an issue. I would not recommend living here if you can afford something else. The location is convenient and there is a bus nearby that goes to ECU. The appliances need updating and the carpets looked like they needed replacing when I moved in. I have had other people who have lived there talk about how poor the management is also. There are often loud parties outside and sometimes the cops show up. There were also shootings and robberies while I lived there. read more

This place is the absolute worst place you could live. And please ignore all the 5-star reviews. The Bower offers gifts and money if you give them 5 stars. Living here has been one nightmare after another. When I first moved in it was super organized and I was actually excited to live here until I got to my apartment and my key didn't work. It took them over 30 minutes to get a replacement key so I could actually get in. And as soon as I got in it was such a letdown. There were dead bugs EVERYWHERE. Our air conditioner broke and it took them 3 days to come out and even look at it. Another few days had passed and we went back up to the front office and they told us the guy who came out and looked at it had no clue what he was doing. I had a thermometer in my room and it read 95 degrees. I had enough and went to the front office and complained about how this wasn't fair for us to live in our apartment where the guy up front then called me a "dumb white bi*ch". My next nightmare was the mold problem. These apartments are covered in black mold. All the air vents, the furniture, everything. I complained multiple times about it because my roommates and I were getting very sick. I ended up having to go to the city to get it resolved. When maintenance finally came and fixed it I got yelled at because I complained to the city because "it makes a bad relationship between the maintenance staff and residents." The floors always creak, the closet doors never stay on track, the furniture they give you is a joke, the showers are constantly clogged and the water stays hot for about a whole 3 minutes. This place is cheap but there are better places out there where you actually get what you pay for. read more

My daughter has stayed at The Bower for 2 years now. Love the close proximity to campus, and bus stop. So happy the Bower has a gym and offers a pool for some downtime for my student. Any issues she has had have been taken care of in a timely manner. Staff has been great. Great price for reasonable living so close to ECU. read more

Wish I could give this place 0 stars! Stayed here for 2 years. BIG mistake. Long story short, I had to move units from my original one I had been in for over a year because of riff raft they moved in on me with drugs, kids...you name it! Awful! They all had eviction notices before the end of the 2nd month. And I was the one who had to move.... 2nd unit was fine until they moved another questionable person in on my before consulting me (which they promised to me as a courtesy). Girl wound up being the trashiest of trash. Had babies and and all sorts of cleanliness issues, left the doors wide open, threatened the rest of the roommates several times, many altercations...the list goes on with this girl. She also never paid rent...go figure...that's the kind of people they attract. After SEVERAL times voicing my concern to the office, NOTHING was done. They had the nerve to tell me I, a good tenet, could move AGAIN...2 weeks before I graduated...NO, that's NOT reasonable! Very long story short, trashy girl wound up stealing over $600 worth of possessions from my locked room while I was gone, and did the same for another roommate. Again, office did nothing. If they had just moved her in the first place, I would still have my irreplaceable items. The office has over charged me, mis-billed me, given me false information so many times I can't count. They are not accommodating and don't care who lives there or what conditions they live in. The carpet is old and disgusting, the appliances are 30+ years old, the furniture is cheap and constantly breaks. YOU HAVE BRAND NEW BASKETBALL COURTS THOUGH....... Currently they are offering less than $300 rent, with cable, internet and utilities included, plus a $350 gift card for signing a lease....DESPERATE. I would NOT live there again. I have had many discussions with the site manager as well as their corporate office...who are equally as ridiculous. They also own University Manor...wouldn't live there either. AWFUL. TERRIBLE. DO NOT stay here. I've been at the bower for 2 years now and when resigning my lease they told me i'd have to pay $30 more than what I was paying the year before. They gave me no warning about this and illegally raised my rent without notice. This place is also filthy and the maintenance crew doesn't fix anything. This place seems fine from the outside but there are so many issues that don't get addressed which is a huge problem for me. I really regret spending 2 years of my college life here. Management here is disorganized and unreliable. they do everything but help you. My AC cut off for a week and they put my case on hold. Mind you it's been 85/90 degrees. I could honestly go on and on... I stayed here because this place is cheap and close to campus but I'm not even getting my money's worth here. I wish somebody would actually acknowledge that this is unacceptable and fix these problems immediately. read more

The Bower has been a good place to live but it comes with a few downsides. One is we still don't have a visitors parking lot so if your friends or parents come and visit you they will be towed by G- Vegas towing. When we contact the office about one of our friends being towed and the property manager said "Its 24 hour towing and we will not be able to reimburse your money", which is a little disheartening. College students live in these apartments, we already have enough money problems, and now we have to make sure our personal cars and our friends/ families cars don't get towed. Two we moved into our apartment and it was absolutely disgusting. Carpets stained, torn up, and smell awful. Three they said they did renovations but honestly I have no idea where. We have three penny sized holes in our kitchen ceiling, our shelves in our kitchen cabinet broke, and our door doesn't properly shut unless it is locked. The Bower is a great place to live with the amenities and the location but its also not great due to all the complications. Im sorry the Bower but it had to be said. read more

I just moved out of Pirate's Place after 2 years living there. I think this is going to be a pretty long review. On move in day (August 15, 2013) I arrived to my 4x3 floorplan to discover that the faucet handle for the kitchen sink was laying on the counter. The sink itself wasn't connected to anything either. I walked around a bit to see that one of the bedrooms didn't have a door on it and there were tools laying randomly in the room. The A/C didn't work, and the dryer (which was probably obsolete in the 1980's) was missing the on button. I immediately went to the office to let them know about these issues. I went to the office every morning for 5 days before somebody finally came to take care of it. The maintenance manager informed me that the previous renters of my unit had been evicted and trashed the place. Which is fine but that doesn't excuse it not being ready for me to move in on the day that I was scheduled to move in. The roommate matching survey that they give you is a joke and I don't think they even consult it. I was 26 years old when I moved in and when I signed the lease I told the guy in the office that I didn't want to spend my time there babysitting children. He told me that it wouldn't be a problem, that they often have older students sign up and they put them together. The 3 roommates that I ended up with were 18, 18, & 20 with maturity levels of 2 5 year olds and a 3 year old. They constantly would forget to turn off the oven or stove after cooking (a friend I had in another unit said that happened to him a lot too) and they never ever cleaned up after themselves. I don't think their mommy's ever taught them how. The appliances themselves in the kitchen were extremely old. The oven didn't have a self cleaning mode, the floor was stained and dirty, and there is no garbage disposal in the units. I had the master bedroom which came with a private bathroom. The master bedroom is quite large giving you plenty of space. The other 3 bedrooms in the unit would have had trouble fitting anything beyond my queen size bed, they were basically closets. The private bathroom was fine and spacious but there were yellow stains all over the floor. When I moved in the blinds in my bedroom were leaning against the wall and the shower curtain hanger was sitting in the tub. The carpet in the entire unit was stained with what looking like spray paint and there was a fantastic smell coming from the carpet that never went away even after having a crew come in and clean it. As far as overall safety goes there was at least 1 stabbing and shots fired into a unit while I was there. There was also someone robbed at gun point after answering their front door. The community is gated but the gate was broken and kept open about 60% of the time. A lot of the people living there were involved in drug related activities which lead to the violence that I mentioned above. There was a member of the Greenville police department supposedly living there but I never saw any reason to think he or she was actually doing anything. If you value sleep you will love Pirate's Place. Every night of the week somebody on the property is throwing a party late into the night. These always featured loud music and drunken idiots screaming at the top of their longs all night long. Speaking to the office staff about this yielded no results. Also this is supposedly a student living complex but I know of at least one couple living there that was well into their 40's with multiple children. Also they have a strict no pet policy. So strict that you will hear dogs barking all night and see several cats roaming around the property. My roommate brought his dog for the week of spring break and when a member of the office came in for an inspection here reaction was, "Oh I LOVE your dog!" The office staff are unorganized and they don't care about their residents. I ordered a time sensitive package that was delivered to the office. The office staff did not notify me but amazon.com gave me the tracking number and said it had been delivered. I went down to the office to get the package and they had no record of it being there and refused to look for it. I filed a complaint with UPS thinking it was there fault and had the company send me the package again. The same thing happened and I gave some poor person at UPS a piece of my mind. A few days later a member of the Pirate's Place staff called me and said I'd had 2 packages there for over a week and asked if I was ever going to come get them. It was the stuff I had ordered. Pirate's Place is very cheap. I paid $369 per month and that included utilities and cable tv/internet. At the same time dealing with all of the other stuff you have to deal with there I'd say they're severely overpriced. I would avoid this complex if at all possible. Don't be fooled by their model apartment. The actual units are 30 years older and have probably never been cleaned. read more

When I first arrived to The Bower, formerly known as Pirates Place, on moving day I was impressed the checking in process was efficient and the staff was extremely prepared for the day. As I entered my unit my excitement began to diminish and by the time I entered my room my level of enthusiasm was that of a professional sports team being invited to the White House for McDonalds. To say the room that I was assigned was small is an understatement, Harry Potter had a bigger cupboard at Number 4 Privet Drive during his stay with the Dursleys. There was a crack in the door and the sliding glass doors that hide the cubby of a closet from view was already off their tracks. However, the walls are phenomenal especially if you wish to have a conversation with anyone that's in another room or listen to the music of neighbors or roommates. The internet is also great, if you use an ethernet cord or your phone as a mobile hotspot. I will say though that throughout my stay here the staff has been excellent with communicating with their residents. I am almost on a weekly basis sent messages informing residents that the office will be closed for staff meetings or that there is free food at the clubhouse. When the twenty year old heating and air conditioning unit went out and the heat in the unit was up to 79 degrees, my issue was addressed that day and I was told that sometimes the thermostat just does that. When someone else promptly came out to see my thermostat issue two to three days later it was determined that there was no motor in the unit. The maintenance staff handled this issue extremely fast and after two weeks with no heat or air it was fixed! Overall I was extremely displeased with my experience here, if you can stay anywhere else do so. read more
