I think that says a lot of things about the Pub, and if you've ever been there, it gives you pause to wonder just what kind of throwdown took place. Sadly, it was before I knew her, and probably for the best, as I was slightly more underage than Kelly herself at the time. I used to be conveniently located around the corner from the Pub, whether I was on campus or at my apartment on Brown Drive. Is it a bad thing that so many happy memories are centered on a bar? I think not. My husband and I went there on our first date, and we made a beeline for it right after my dentist appointment on the day we were married. It was where I finished my first New York Times crossword puzzle, and the first place I was sloshed enough to get up and sing on a Wednesday karaoke night. We all went there to celebrate birthdays, holidays, ends of the semester, heartbreaks, no reasons at all ... it was just where we went. The Pub reigns supreme in many things--cheap beer, excellent bartenders, a gigantic front porch, and bitchin' bar fights, to name but a few--but most of all, my heart.

We couldn't taste the alcohol at all but wow, that small drink packed enough liquor that we felt it just after just one. Would you be towed? I have a handicap tag and I parked in front of the building to the right of them next to two very large pickup trucks. Wasn't towed, no ticket. Thank God. Fluke? Lucky? When we went up the weird little steps... not exactly handicap accessible... it's a fairly dark crowded place with a wide aisle separating tables from the check-in area, a small serving area, the long bar, more tables the stage, and access to the upstairs seating area. The lady that checked us in verified Kim's name in a book even though she ordered her tickets through some app... didn't even need to scan the QR code! We were given our little bracelets and went to find a table... hopefully... as it fills up FAST there! Was told he played in Nashville 6 days a week. I can see it. He's pretty good. Just not what anyone wanted to hear for a couple of hours while waiting for a Journey tribute... and I heard people complaining left and right. And yawning. Yep. Yawning. It was the fact raspy voices don't have much range, and after about an hour he was beyond monotonous... Once Resurrection came on stage? It got hopping!!! The bar had pretty much run out of food during Boring Bobby, so people need to eat EARLY. The acoustics are pretty good, the bass beat even vibrates the floor! The employees are ALL really nice. Customers/venue goers (whatever you want to call the people that bought tickets) are pretty nice, but have no compunction whatsoever of blocking your view. None. The open floor in front of the stage isn't that big and they will cram themselves on it or block the aisle leading to it, making it hard to get to your table if it's close to the stage and you went to the bar or the restrooms located to the right of the bar. It's a good sized club and they play a lot of good music. I've heard everything from funk to edm to hip hop. They bring in many great local artists to showcase their skills all the time. Our server, a white man with numerous tattoos, was rude and disrespectful to everyone at our table throughout the evening. More concerning, I experienced comments and behavior that I perceived as racist and homophobic, and another employee appeared to encourage or support that conduct instead of addressing it. My guests and I felt humiliated and extremely uncomfortable. As someone who has been a loyal customer for a long time and has spent a significant amount of money supporting this business, I was shocked that this was our experience. I invited friends and family expecting a great evening, and instead we left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. If this type of behavior reflects what the restaurant is willing to tolerate, that is deeply disappointing. I hope management takes this complaint seriously, investigates what occurred, and ensures that no customer is made to feel this way in the future. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment, particularly to people who may be concerned about being treated unfairly because of their race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. I also intend to share my experience on social media so others are aware of what happened during our visit.
