A gem of a place that I discovered quite by accident via my mother in law of all people, (no offence Kate you are wonderful). Its really not a place you would think to go without a recommendation - hence why I decided to review to spread the word.
Firstly this is a countryside pub, a bit in the middle of nowhere in the big scheme of things, which is the only big downside I can see- you really DO need a designated driver. On the very much plus side The Boot boasts a decent outside seating area, cosy bar area, and two floors worth of restaurant.
Bar -wise think real ales, local people and cosy corners for chatting with friends. The barstaff are friendly and are knowledgable about the ales they serve if you are into that kind of thing.
Book in advance to ensure a table as it does get full. On entry expect to sit at a table and have a drink first whilst waiting to be seated. You will receive a warm welcome and very friendly smiley service. Then you will be shown through to one of two seating areas. Downstairs is contemporary with frosted glass doors and ikea style lighting and you can see through to the cooking/serving area. Upstairs is kind of Olde worlde with exposed beams, chintz, tapestries on the wall etc,. Its very odd that the two areas are so different - but it works.
The menu is inventive, reasonably priced and each dish is presented very artistically. The Seabass has to be my favourite so far, but I have also had steaks, beef medallions (melt in the mouth), and lemon sole and could not pick fault with anything that has passed my lips. If you are of the sweet toothed variety like me you just HAVE to try their white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake its like a slice of heaven!!. Also recommended are the mussels. With a wide set menu and different specials each week tere is something for everyone.
Expect to pay around £20 per head for a 3 course meal with several drinks.
Top tips ;
1.Get there early as the service is leisurely - which I like but it does mean a meal can easily go on for several hours. They encourage you to sit and chat at the table and not rush your meal - in a mediteranean type fashion that is unusual in Uk restaurants.
2. When ordering your veg, chips potato selections bear in mind they come in seperate servers to the main dish and you help yourself to as little or as much as you like. This is great on two points - the plate comes out looking stunning and not heaped up in a big pile of chips. But also we have found that for instance two portions of veg is enough to share between 4 etc,. So it means you can have a selection.
Sorry this review is a little lengthy guys but its hard to put into words. Well worth a try if you are in the area. read more
