I wouldn't write home about it, or rush here to try it, but it's solid, and the prices aren't bad. Coffee was average. I ordered a long black, so maybe that's why? It was made correctly, with mot too much water used (this is key, because many cafes screw this up, even at fancier cafes), but in terms of flavour, it was lacking. Perhaps I should try a flat white next time? I'd definitely come here again if I was close to Bell St, and was too lazy to walk to True North. I really wanted to try the reuben sandwich, but it'll need to wait until next time I'm in the area!

The location is extremely random (as with…read moreall shops in the area) so unless you are in the area, or like myself, meeting people, it's unlikely you will visit. (Boy, that was one hell of a long sentence )! The place is modern, clean and bright. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. They don't have any problems with split bills. The menu is fairly simple. About 4 burgers, 4 different cuts of steaks (with a few different sauces/mustards) and a handful of sides. Also a few fish dishes and salads. I gotta admit, at first I was leaning towards the steak. But at about $35 I thought it was a bit much coin (it was a Monday night). Instead I ordered the "pardon pardon" burger. I've no idea why it's called this. It's a a "spicy" beef burger. I use the term "spicy" lightly as it was not spicy (for me) at all. It was however, AMAZING! In fact the whole table ordered different types of burger and we all enjoyed it. We order one side of loaded fries too. The too were great. One serve is plenty for 4 people. If I'm in the area again, just try and keep me away!

I got introduced to this place by friends - meeting up for a lunch catch-up at what they described…read moreas "a decent place that's not too expensive and does great burgers". They weren't wrong! The service was quick, friendly and unobtrusive. There was a light buzz of conversation about the place to give it an atmosphere, but not so much that it was annoying or overbearing. The food options are what you'd expect from a decent cafe, with (for me) a couple of pleasant surprises - such as "Fully Loaded Fries": a meal in itself with fries topped with ham, spring onion, BBQ sauce, pickled jalapenos and melted cheese. Naturally, these were ordered and were very much enjoyed between myself and my mate who had been dying for someone to indulge with him. As my (other) main, I had the Chicken-Mex Burger - extremely tasty! Succulent chicken loaded with lettuce, tomato, onion, relish, mayo, (more) cheese and (more) jalapenos - going well with the jalapenos which came with the crazy loaded fries. This was all washed down with a pleasantly enjoyable boutique beer. They cater well for kids in terms of a specific menu as well as having high chairs available. There's plenty of options for sides and don't get me started on desserts! I have to confess, I didn't (couldn't) get as far as desserts, but they did sound and look good... Chocolate Lava Cake... Mmmm...! Being a beer drinker, the beer options were a bit limited and the wine options were a few more but not loads. Still, not too restrictive and there should be something there for everybody. There was a decent amount of parking immediately outside and nearby.

Whilst…read moreI've still got my faves in my back pocket, I am open to trying the plethora of brunch establishments available all over Melbourne. So cue South Society. What a flop. This is my other issue with being spoilt for choice, you have no idea hows it going to be until you have been, and if it's rubbish sadly you won't get your two hours back (thank goodness for the good company!) It's a fairly large cafe located on the shopping strip just off Blackburn road with ample outdoor seating. My friend and I were seated on a very wobbly table outside (which also sent a glass of water into my lap after the table tipped towards me) which was rectified by moving. Also a wobbly table, this was fixed by stacking a pile of napkins underneath. Coffee orders were taken promptly but food took ages. I ordered myself the Mediterranean eggs Benedict and my friend had the mushrooms on toast. It was about 45 minutes before the food came out and it was such a disappointment. My food was more tasteless than plain rice. It was supposed to be poached eggs, sitting atop shredded pork shoulder on Turkish bread, topped with jalapeños, coriander and hollondaise sauce. The whole thing was bland and soggy. Hollondaise was too runny and not well seasoned. Eggs overcooked. My pork shoulder was so watery it tasted like boiled pork and sitting atop the Turkish bread just meant the whole thing was soggy. The only flavour I could actually taste was the coriander. My friend who had the mushrooms was also quite unimpressed with her meal. I've added an extra star here because the coffee and ambiance are nice, but I'd recommended just sticking to the coffee and people watching.

After 3 visits, it is time to write a review…read more This cafe is fairly new and is located on the corner of Blackburn Road right of the freeway at the Pinewood shopping village. If you live around the area, you will know this location is tough and the spot has undergone several changes throughout the past few years and never quite made it. With Glen Waverley becoming busier, it is natural for the overflow of people to move towards Pinewood and with cafe's becoming "the thing" in Melbourne...South Society has taken the bull by the horns. Newly renovated with simple open plan full - wooden tables, dessert display and pot plants... With an all day menu from 7am, I have tried: Pumpkin linguini, red velvet pancakes (strawberries and chocolate drizzle) and the big breakfast (with a cheesy potato croquette). The food is on the pricier side however is in line with other hip places. The chai latte is always well brewed with actual tea and served a brown platter. The coffee always looks pretty and friends say it is an average coffee. I come here as there is always parking, the food is the same price as Glen Waverley Cafes and on par for quality. The food ranges from muesli - bacon and eggs - smashed ago - burger - pasta which caters for a variety of people I enjoy catching up with. Will be back for the convenice however the most recent visit I was a bit disappointed with the floors and tables not being well kept and food order taking some time.

I ordered The Greek Burger and chips and tomato sauce for our takeaway movie night…read more Ive always been drawn to both greek culture and especially greek food, so I had a good feeling about this from the get go. It was obvious I was making the safest choice for my personal taste. I havnt got a bad word to say about the overall experience. It was fantastic. The tzatziki sauce complemented the burger very well. There was the right amount of lamb meat. It was ideal, beuitifully made. Im more of a wrap guy then a burger guy so the fact that I was so impressed by this Greek burger shows how good it was. The chips and sauce were also very nice as well. A good side snack on after the main. The chips were the exact type that I like I did not have the onion rings, my friend did. 4 stars. Definetly worth giving a go. They have so much to choose from on the menu, its hard not to find something that appeals to you. High qaulity food.

Stepping inside this cafe things do look a little run down, slightly worn away wooden tables and white concrete walls, but the staff greeted me with a big smile and took me to a table. Initially seeming small I later realised the cafe has an upstairs with more tables and seating as well as quite a cute little courtyard out the back. Great for sitting in the sunshine. Only after a quick coffee I happily pulled out my purse when only being charged $2.90! Quite cheap for coffee by today's standards in my book. Another bonus, they have a free public internet connection here as well, so no time limits and no passwords. Cafe sass? A sassy cafe.

My friend and I came here for my last night in Melbourne and we decided on this spot for dinner. We phoned ahead and made resos and then were blown away by everything we had! Seriously! We shared the gnocchi and the burger and then had the pb&j for dessert. The gnocchi is expensive for the amount but they used the word 'delicacy' to describe it and this is 100% accurate. The least fav part of the meal were the fries which were meh. But of course I ate them all. :) Come here, and come again. You won't be disappointed.

Had the best night of my recent visit to Melbourne here at St Luja…read more Great food, great drinks, great vibe. I started the evening with a nice red on the patio waiting for friends to arrive, then we moved inside as dinner time approached. The space inside is cozy & nicely appointed. The restaurant is in a beautiful house, and isn't too big, so it doesn't feel crowded or noisy. The decoration is simple and has a homely feel to it. We were a group of ten people. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. They suggested getting an assortment of entrées to share, which was a good idea as we got to sample a good part of the menu. We did the same for desserts. The food was delicious and original, as some dishes offered a interesting mix of flavors (for example, the menu comprised an omelet with melon and mint and a curry with watermelon). Overall, I think everyone enjoyed their food. The food was tasty, flavory and fresh. A lot of the vegetables and herbs come from the restaurant's garden, which you can take a walk in after eating or between courses while enjoying the scenery. The bread was homemade and really good (and that means a lot coming from a French person!). As for drinks, we had white wine and red wine, both of which were really good. This is a nice place to go to if you want to have nice and out of the ordinary quality food and local wine and escape the city for the day.

A popular hang out for push bike riders heading up or down the hill, you'll be able to spot it by the amount of lycra clad men and women lazing on the outdoor furniture of a weekend morning. Inside it's a rustic charmer with good coffee and a good little menu serving breakfast and lunch. Still retaining an inner city feel has made Svaks the choice of most locals nowadays, as instead of a view of a passing tram and a line if cars, the trees and open spaces of The Basin Triangle across the road give your eyes a well earned dose of fresh colour. A favourite of mine is the vegetable pancake. Layers of cheese and grilled vegetable make this an omelette from hell, or heaven, that is sure to please. Although there has been a change in hands in the kitchen recently, the recipes have remained the same, and it's only a matter of time before the locals decide to continue their love affair with Svaks.
