Thankfully there are still 1 or 2 bookstores in beautiful White Rock. Yesterday, my stroll took me to Black Bond Books situated in Semiahmoo Mall. They have a great selection of books from best sellers to kids to history to cooking and the list goes on. They also sell a good variety of calendars along with a small selection of toys. The staff always greet their customers and make them feel welcome. If you don't see it on the shelves, they are more than happy to order it for you. After enjoying myself just strolling the aisles, I left with a book I've been looking forward to reading. With every book purchase, they always include a bookmark (no dog-eared books for me). They accept cash, credit and debit. There is parking in the mall parking lot. If you love to read as much as I do or have a reader in your life that you want to shop for, I highly recommend Black Bond Books.

So I was out this way and I had to go look in. I am used to large selection even at the local Black Bond but this place didn't really have much. Could be that it was a small location but it just felt lacking. The customer service was the good part of my experience here. Since I rarely get out this way I will more than likely never be back.

Where there are hordes of Chinos, there is bound to be at least one SUP Bookstore. What may seem a…read morebit confusing at first, SUP (#1) is no question/greeting, but rather the abbreviation for Sino United Publish (#2). In Chinese, its "San Lian Shu Dian" or "Sam Leen Shu Deem" but if you didn't already know that, its likely the book selection isn't for you. I note this because virtually all of their books are published in Chinese. Lots of materials that were never given an English Cliff Notes version (aka Chinese Literature) will be on full display here. Whether its a New York Times Best Seller translated into Chinese or a How To book on anything, it's going to be available here. What do you do when you're not exactly Chinese literate? First of all, you'd probably have to figure out why you're there. Are you learning Chinese? Buying a gift for someone who does? Best ask an associate for some recommendations for a good read. And yes, ask one who speaks a reasonably good amount of English. The service has been good here, the crowds rarely flock here (#3) and the prices seem fair though a non-bookworm (aka me) has a hard time parting ways for any hardcover book for $50 unless its limited edition or includes an entire volume set. Audio books, here I come. _________ (#1) Personally, I like "Sup Bookstore(?)" much better. (#2) Publish..ers. Sometimes we like keep things shorter. I mean short. (#3) Does anyone read anymore?

Small place makes interacting with friendly staff unavoidable…read more To say this place is small is an understatement. It's about the size of my living room. That said, they manage to pack a lot into this tiny joint. Right in the middle of the store are huge storage bins for back issues of comics. Underneath the bins are more long boxes filled with comics. Everything is clearly labeled, making things easier to locate. Most labels are by character name (i.e. Green Lantern) or title name (Justice League, X-Men). You might have to do a little digging, however, as multiple volumes/series are lumped together under one heading. When I couldn't find something specific, the staff were quick to jump in to help me find what I wanted. Along the side walls are more back issues. Along the back wall are the current issues for the week/month. The counter along the left has glass display cabinets featuring high-priced comics under lock and key. Statues, toys, memorabilia, artwork, action figures and Funkos are displayed for sale throughout any and all available spaces. Price-wise, they are pretty fair. They didn't seem to jack up the prices of variant cover back issues like some other stores do. And, when I purchased over $250 worth of stuff, the owner, John, gave me a break on the price of a few items. They recently hired some new staff, and they are slowly re-organizing everything to better utilize the limited space. But, with 1000's of comics, it's a work in progress. Not a big store, but punches above its weight class.
