My kids and I love going to The Bookshelf for all our literary needs. The kids could browse the book selection for hours if I let them! This adorable store has a great selection of books and any book can be ordered online or in-store for pickup. All the ladies who work there are friendly and knowledgeable. What a hidden (to me, at least until now) gem that I've driven by for years! Walking in and the smell of books smacked me hard in the face! What a great spot to find something! This space is small but filled with reading possibilities! I found many titles currently on my TBR and picked only one this visit. I absolutely adore this book store and their staff. Everyone is so kind and they are very knowledgeable about all different types of books. I came in looking for a specific book (they didn't have it in stock but can order for you) and came out with other suggested books that ended up being even better than the one I wanted (and eventually got). They have a great selection on children's books (entry level reader to middle grade) that my kids love to pick from. Highly recommend supporting this local book store! read more

The Bookshelf is the name of a small bookstore in Madeira's Camargo Station. Tucked away in the corner of the main level of the small two-story shopping center, The Bookshelf is appropriately named. The store is much smaller than any other bookstore I've been in and proportionally it is really like a bookshelf compared to a bookstore such as Barnes and Noble. Just like any bookshelf, however, there is always something good to read, regardless of the limited number of options. Whether you like fiction, mystery, or even poetry, they have most of the popular genres. They even have sections for cooking, childcare, and gardening, as well as a selection of greeting cards, puzzles and games, some large print books, and big children's. They don't have the number of books and other items that a larger store does, but they do have plenty of options and good reads. If you're looking for a good book or know someone who might like one as a gift, then it's worth checking out if you are in the area. If you are closer to a larger bookstore such as Barnes and Noble than that's probably your best bet, but if you're shopping at Kroger or any of the other nearby Madeira businesses then it might be worth your time to come in and look for something grab from The Bookshelf. read more

Dear Bookshelf, I recently read with much interest the article in the Enquirer about Betsy Schram's dad's World War II letters. I, also, have recently come into possession of my father's correspondence with various family members (mostly my grandmother--his mother) during his years of service during World War II. They are writings from him to family and some that she had written to him. Somehow they were all saved together. I assumed he saved all of his and she saved all he wrote to her. He died quite unexpectedly in 1969 at age 42 much after he returned from service. I came into possession of the letters only after my Uncle passed away(my dad's only brother). He must have saved them after all these years! My family is originally from southeastern Kentucky. These letters prove they were a loving, god fearing, fiercely patriotic family who were not the most educated people but still cared deeply for each other and their country. My father was only 18 years old when he was sent to war and right out of high school! My question is: Do you have any ideas of what to do with this treasured collection? I know a family scrapbook of some sort was mentioned in the article. But I do not know even where to start! These letters are still in relatively good shape and most are dated.
