TL;DR - This dry bar makes a great addition to the Prestwich coffee scene.
Tucked away on Clifton Road, just off Bury New Road is the Book Club, Prestwich's latest coffee shop... although their opening hours match more what you would expect from a bar, but they don't serve alcohol - but they do offer a variety of mocktails, teas and coffees.
Downstairs is pretty small, but very nicely decorated and they've managed to fit quite a bit of seating in without things feeling overcrowded. There's also an upstairs where they hold special events including live music.
We had some sandwiches and paninis with coffee which were nice and fantastic value, but not the most exciting we've ever had. There was some delicious looking chocolate cake on display too, but we were on our best behaviour and resisted.
The really nice thing here is that they're clearly trying to create a community hub, with a breast cancer charity fund raising event scheduled in when we visited, and people popping in to book the upstairs for special events and functions.
It's great to see another addition in Prestwich and one which has not only a community focus, but it also avoiding being "yet another bar". I very nearly awarded the place 4 stars, but have settled on three because there's a few rough edges they're still working on - no payment by card at the moment, and although they offer a coffee loyalty card which we presented they didn't stamp it. Just teething problems though - we'll definitely be back. read more
