    Book bin used book high-quality

Amazing customer service so sweet. They called me pretty and said they liked my outfit and they were all very smiley. I appreciated that a lot a very warm and welcoming community. The stickers that they write on the books come off very easy and don't leave a sticky residue I appreciate thatthey also write the price in pencil on the book

    Buying counter policy

I was in shopping today, when a customer came in to sell books with a very heavy and full box. The customer asked about selling books and the blonde employee, who on this day was wearing a sweater with green stripes and singing along to a blink 182 song, responded with "we don't buy books in December." The costumer responded with "I wish I saw that information on your website when I looked this morning". The blonde employee responded with "well you could have called us" her tone was insolent with a tinge of putting down and blaming the customer. She then added "I'm pretty sure that information is also on our website". The information that they don't buy in December is not on the website as pictured below. The man left with no sympathy or apology from the blonde employee about the inconvenience and misunderstanding. The customer was indeed correct and placing blame on someone for not calling the store is unacceptable. I left shortly after without making a purchase.

You can't miss their huge sign when you're driving around Downtown Salem. After passing by it so many times, I came by to take a look. Because of COVID-19, they offer book pick-up if you call ahead. When you enter, they first ask you to apply hand sanitizer before entering and redirect you to either browse or go to the book pick-up area. I decided to browse and wasn't looking for anytrhing in particular. They have duct tape throuhout the while store and reminder customers to stay 6 feet apart. The staff is very friendly and the AC felt so nice in the summer heat. The books are very reasonably priced. I even looked at Amazon to compare a couple books and they had them for the same prices (if not cheaper!). I wish I had a local book store like this in my town. Can't wait to read the book I picked up.

I had a day on my own in Salem a couple of weeks ago on a trip to the area, and I just wanted three things: books, shoes, and pho. The Book Bin kept coming up in my searches for a nice book store so I went there as soon as they opened, thinking I'd grab a couple of books and be on my way. No. I spent an hour or so browsing and ended up with a sizable stack of books to add to my TBR pile. What a great store! The staff are pleasant and kind, the atmosphere is quiet in a reassuring way, and the books on featured displays are fantastic. It was a great mix of new and used, and the whole vibe of the place was welcoming and fun. It's a great place for book lovers.

The workers seemed friendly and there were quite a few other customers there, within an hour of opening. But it never seemed crowded and remained pretty quiet. Here and there they have chairs and tables, so it could be a nice place to sit down with a book for a while. The rows are not straight, so it was a little hard to navigate the store. There were lots of books, but also lots of other things on sale. Puzzles, toys, records, pop culture gifts, and stationary/journals. They had a whole Harry Potter section with the books, of course, but lots of other Potter paraphernalia, like toys, mugs, etc. The signage over some of the sections was missing letters, I think whatever adhesive they used to affix the letters had issues with the curving surface of the book shelves. This store also had lots of events with authors on their event calendar. The cafe seemed like it had the regular snacks and beverages on offer, but I didn't look too hard at the menu. I don't really buy books much anymore (recovering book hoarder here), but this seems like a good addition to the bookstores in the area. I was a little surprised to hear of a new corporate bookstore opening up, but I see they are covering their bases a bit by selling tons of other gifts (and food) along with books. I bet this place will be packed leading up to the holidays!

If a hot book hits the market, the holds at the library will stack up six deep and you have to wait a year to borrow a copy. Also, the library is no longer a reference library, and if you want a classic out of the past, you can find it here. New books are expensive, but that is not this firm's fault. I enjoy getting a coffee and reading my purchase before I leave. The bathrooms need a code for access but employees have been gracious in giving it to me and indeed the behavior of all the employees has been impeccable. I invariably leave in an enhanced mood.

Maps are key to finding anything, sadly no used board games. The kids section is great for how to draw books, love used books stocked next to new. The catalogue computers (just like a library) were helpful - told you both what section, shelf to find your both, and number of both new and used copies available which is fantastic (just make sure to write down more then section number if that exists, it still took a while to find a specific book - a obtuse and somewhat arbitrary categorization (ie a book we wanted was under mental games) Their summer reading program was amazing for $5 coupon to be used on purchase of anything.

The Burnside location takes up an entire city block and has SO many different sections. There are new and used books, gifts, and basically every genre and random little category you can think of. The different rooms even have their own names, and the whole place feels like a giant book maze. You could easily spend hours just wandering around. I loved browsing through everything. Even when I wasn't looking for anything specific, I kept finding things that caught my attention. The color-coded sections and maps definitely helped because otherwise I probably would have just gotten lost somewhere in the shelves and never been seen again. Definitely one of those Portland places I'd recommend even if you're not a huge book person. It's just really fun to walk around and explore, and I can totally see why Powell's is such an iconic part of Portland.
