This facility was recommended highly so I called with some questions. The lady would answered the phone was so rude, it really put me off. She cut me off mid-question to ask about our insurance and whether it was in network (I've never had someone make me call to find this out). Every question I had was met with negativity and/or something I needed to do before making an appointment. She honestly acted like I was bothering her. I recently had surgery here by Dr. Stephen Engstrom. I had seen several other Physicians previously and none were able to relieve me of the pain I had in my groin area after having a Hip Replacement. A friend of mine had the same issue and Dr. Engstrom performed surgery on him and it was very successful. I made an appointment with Dr. Engstrom and drove 7 1/2 hours to get there. Once I met with him, he knew immediately what I wanted and assured me he could do the operation. He later performed the operation and from the very next day of the operation, my pain was gone and I had full movement of my leg ! The Personal there were very Professional and Courteous. Before the operation, every person that attended to me was friendly and very professional. They explained what their role was and what would be taking place during the operation. What a Great Experience I had during my surgery. I would recommend Vanderbilt Bone and Joint to Anyone needing their services. I recently tore a ligament off the bone and was in need of some help. I wasn't in the mood to wait for 3 hours at an emergency room, so I opted to drive down to Franklin. This place rocks. They have after hours walk-in service from 5-8 so it's extremely friendly to my schedule. Dr. Fitch was great about everything. Granted this isn't a place you want to have to go to. But, if you're in need, this place is tops on my list. read more

Flew to TN from Northern California to obtain a second option for a Nov, 2020 surgery on my hand. After 11/mo in excruciating pain, an MRI, a nerve test, and X-rays, my orthopedic dr pretty much gave up on me as he could not find the cause/location of where my pain was coming from so he ordered an epidural. I promptly knew that this was NOT the solution because it does not address the underlying issue. Fortunately for me, Dr Todd Wurth immediacy identified the area/cause of my pain and suggested a cortisone shot. After 24/hrs, I am now pain free and EXTREMELY thrilled with the outcome. Dr. Calendine is excellent. I've seen him about two conditions and his surgery add a last option approach has really helped me avoid unnecessary procedures. The office is efficient .I've never waited long enough to finish my paperwork and have always finished it in the exam room. This trip had my xrays done before I finished it. I wasn't sold on the Bone and Joint Institute in Franklin at first... then I met Dr. Kalb. He's the group's physiatrist and an expert in epidural spinal injections and other injections that help folks like me avoid surgery. My spinal injections took me from horrifying numbness in my legs to something that's manageable--and pain free. When I first met Dr. Kalb, I had difficulty walking--now, I'm walking at a brisk pace on the treadmill for 60-70 minutes every single day! Dr. K also hooked me up with one of their physical therapists who was absolutely wonderful! I've been to PT at Star and PT at St. Thomas and neither did any more for me than I could figure out myself by watching a couple YouTube videos. The PYT at Bone and Joint worked on me AND, more importantly, have taught me how to start helping myself and offering me an opportunity to take an active role in my health care, effectively making me a partner in my own care. I recommend the B&J Inst. wholeheartedly, especially Dr. Kalb and their Physical Therapy floor (yes! they have an entire floor dedicated to PT). Check them out--you won't be sorry! read more

Dr. Ronald Derr is the most incredible doctor! Luckily for me, he was on call for all 3 of my surgeries for broken bones. He has the best bed-side manner of any physician I have ever seen with my family. He knows what he is doing! read more

This used to be a great medical office. Not so much anymore. I was a patient there for MANY years. I was always treated well until Vanderbilt took over. Now patients are treated like cattle, & it's VERY clear that money is the driving force in this business. Patients are "processed" as quickly as possible & you may not even see your doctor at all. Watch your bills as you may be billed twice for one office visit. read more

Great people Dr. Mcnamara explained everything he would be doing during a very complicated surgery that lasted 6 hours. The followup appointments were easy. I drive from Knoxville TN to Nashville TN that should speak for itself. I highly recommend them for spinal issues. read more

I was 20min early for my appointment and had to wait 2 hours past my appointment time to see my doctor. Not a good first impression. They gave me a cortisone shot without telling me it would be billed to my insurance company as surgery! Now I'm left with a huge bill for a procedure that did nothing but put money in the doctors pocket. read more

I saw Dr. Colin Looney yesterday. He was very competent, and I highly recommend him. He was able to immediately diagnose my frozen shoulder and gave me two cortisone shots that are helping with my pain. The wait time here is ridiculous, though. They need to schedule their patients better. read more

The business office at this time is lacking anyone who can or will deal with disability issues. Still have yet to hear from the disability manager after calling for a week. Missed my next paycheck due to them not verifying that a fax was received. They told my spouse it was sent days earlier but appears it was not. Good luck getting anyone on line to talk about it without having to completely circumvent the business office. Won't happen. You won't get anything done unless it's through the nurses who have their own work to do and are not even part of the business office. I did finally speak to the office manager after calling 2 days, but it remains to be seen if he will fix any of these issues for the next poor soul. The surgeon, Dr. Thomas is excellent as is his PA, nurses, X-ray department, cast room. He is very talented and I highly recommend him. The front desk is also great and the wait times are very good for this busy clinic. The only problem for me was the disability department/business office. read more

I have found most of the doctors there to be very good and kind. The issue I have is since Vanderbilt took over they absolutely treat their patients with no concern. When calling you are put on forever hold ( today 18 minutes) and then told they will have a scheduling person call you back (still waiting). You would think that Vanderbilt could invest a little bit in people or at very least have an option that if you know the extension (I did) you could access it.I know Vanderbilt is very arrogant but they could at least treat their patients a little better. I have had three previous major surgeries with them and am trying to schedule my fourth but I am seriously considering finding another practice which treats their patients with a little more courtesy! read more

I had to appointments with Dr. Thomas, great doctor, but the back office and Vanderbilt is bad. Followup is awful. I cancelled my knee surgery and I will go somewhere else. Please anyone who reads this please do the same very quickly. read more

I saw Dr. Ronald Derr for hammertoes and bunion correction. Two of the three surgeries became infected. On one of the surgeries the foot was improperly wrapped and two of my toes were folded under the other toes resulting in horrific pain and the need for a repeat surgery. Although Dr. Derr has an excellent bedside manner he puts you off when action is indicated. The left foot had to be operated on twice and it had five hammertoes. The right foot had a bunionectomy which failed and it is the foot that was improperly wrapped resulting in the need for a second surgery. He is very likeable but sometimes doesn't seem to hear me. read more
