For years I wanted to make the move to a short haircut. It wasn't until I was in Portland a few weeks ago that I was ready to cut it all off! I was more nervous because I have naturally curly hair and I've found that not everyone is good at working with curly hair. Then I found Lu Devore on Yelp through reviewers posting fantastic transformation photos of haircuts she had done, including curly hairstyles. I was sold! I found that she moved to The Bobby Pin recently and had online booking available. I booked my appointment with her that moment. When I met her, I was immediately at ease. She is calming, a REAL person, and just super awesome all around. I told her that she's the pro here, and I trust her judgement. I showed her a few photos of short cuts that I liked, but told her that she could do what she wanted. She said "I'll give you YOUR haircut." I was like, YEAH! She said so many great things that made me feel uber confident when I walked out the door sporting my new hairstyle. And yes Lu, I wonder why I hadn't done it sooner..... Probably because I hadn't found you. :) The haircut is fantastic!! It takes me half the time to get ready than it used to. I wear earrings that people can actually see, and my hair doesn't reduce my vision. I can wear lipstick without my hair getting into it now.... Just a few amazing benefits of my new 'do in addition to looking badass! I'm so lucky to have met Lu and I thank everyone for taking the time to review her. I wouldn't have found her if it wasn't for you! read more

I saw Layla for a cut and loved the whole experience. The shop is adorable, and she's such a lovely human. I have a lot of wavy/curly-ish, long, and starting to gray hair. She did an awesome job of making sure my hair falls in the right way and doesn't draw the eye to my chin. Can't wait to see her again. read more

Sandra Raymond at the Bobby Pin is magic with curls and color. She wrangled my curly hair in to a cute, short cut that wears well over time to the next cut. The color journeys I've gone on with her are epic, too. So you want pink? What about these 3 pinks to really make it pop? How about blue? Do it. Classic blonde? Brilliant. Basically any time she says she has an idea I have the confidence to say, "do it." Sandra understands color, hair texture, skin tone, and folds in your hair routine to provide a cut a color for your life, not just your day at the salon. And while I'm at it, the Bobby Pin is a gem of a salon in SE. Everyone there is kind, engaging, and fun. read more

A friend recommended this sweet salon and Carl to me for a much needed refresh from my dried out ends and Rapunzel 'do. Carl and I figured out what would give me a wash and wear cut with my preference for minimal styling requirements. Besides his talent in helping me achieve my freshened up look, conversations with Carl are the highlight of my appointment! I find him extremely witty, authentic and kind. I've found my favorite salon in Portland read more

I needed to cut all of my hair off. I have just been so done with long unmanageable hair, and I have wanted a short cut done well. I hadn't cut my hair is 3+ years because of past haircuts being.. sub-par. I found Lu Devore on yelp through pictures and lots of googling. I showed her a couple of pictures of what I wanted and long story short she DELIVERED. No nonsense and very reassuring. I every step of the way I was like Omg it looks so good!! Then will every following cut it just kept looking better and better. She gave me the best pixie cut ever, super versatile and fits my face perfectly. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking to get a pixie. She said herself that they are her favorite cut to do. read more

Joel Arthur is absolutely amazing. I have had the privilige to have him work with my hair for a few years. He takes the time to understand my needs and then implements the perfect solution! I was reluctant to let my Grey hair grow out. I am so glad he was there to encourage me to see how it would look! Then, the magic began including Low Lights and High Lights! If you live a busy life and enjoy your life style, Joel will work with you so you can be low maintenance and have your fun! I feel very fortunate and blessed that Joel is my go to stylist! I highly recommend Joel to any person who is seeking meticulous awesome care for your hair! read more

I've been coming here ever since Lu moved in over a year ago. It's a cute and laid back salon, and I love that there is parking right there. All the stylists are really friendly but I'm writing this review specifically for Lu. I'm so glad I found her 4 years ago after reading loads of reviews. She took me from long hair that I was tired of to a fresh shoulder length cut. Then, every time I came back I wanted to go shorter and shorter. Now she gives me a buzzed pixie that I totally love. I always look forward to catching up with Lu and trust her to tell me what she really thinks. If you want to try something new, I highly recommend going to Lu!! read more

I went from long hair to a short pixie, thanks to the fabulous Lu! Devore! She's completely fantastic at her craft and I'm so tickled to finally have a hair style that is totally mine. The atmosphere is fun and very comfortable. The shop is small but just as cute as can be. Lu is a gem and is completely worth the drive. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic. I went in to see Joel on the recommendation of not one, but two different people, and I was not disappointed. He listened to everything I had to say about my hair, and then took my ramblings and turned them into a fantastic haircut. And a low maintenance one at that. I am a roll out of bed, hopefully remember to put pants on, and go to work kind of guy. Joel took that information and gave me something that I can do in less then 5 minutes and look good. Also, for anyone who might be not your traditionally gendered human being, Joel has the ability to make you feel comfortable and valid. I usually hate going in to get haircuts because I always feel so self conscious, but not this time. I felt welcome, comfortable and like I was a generally cool and entertaining person. (I think that last part was evidence of Joel superior socializing skills). ;-) read more

I got my hair colored with highlights by Adrian at this salon. I brought in a photo of what I wanted and she did an even better job! She did a long consultation with me at first and we picked the perfect colors together. Adrian hand painted my hair so the highlights are natural looking. She really took her time to give me the best coloring, the appointment took three hours (I have a lot of hair). I really enjoyed chatting with her and being the laid back vintage style salon. I would highly recommend Adrian for coloring. read more

Cute little old house in SE turned into a salon. Parking is off the street and culture is very open and welcome. Not sure about the doll heads but I can get past that. :-) read more

I have to write this review about my hair stylist Joel Arthur here. He has been cutting my hair for the past 2 years when he was still with fancy salon. He listens to what you need and shares what he thinks based on your needs and he never disappoints me. Last week I requested highlights and i was nervous since I had bad experience in the past and I had not done highlights ever since. However, he made all easy for me from choosing the color to the final touch. And the end result is amazing. All of my girlfriends asked who did my hair. I would highly recommend Joel to anyone who wants a new look. read more
