The ground floor dining area looks nice and classy, cosy with low lighting. Ah, okay, we thought…read more But then despite there being plenty of open tables, and nearing closing time, we were inexplicably seated upstairs, and I honestly had a hard time believing they actually saw this as a legit place to feed people. Though it wasn't dirty (after all, they are getting two stars instead of one), it had bright fluorescent lighting, plain white walls, and gave a cafeteria feel. Not pleasant. We ordered at the bar and waited nearly an hour for the food (they warned us of this, but I was still confused as there weren't many people there). The food could have made up for it, but it didn't. My vegetarian dish automatically came with a terrible iceberg salad that I could only make myself eat about two bites of, and the small goat cheese pastry was really boring (even though I adore goat cheese). I was still hungry after that so I ordered their Easter special ice cream dessert. The only pleasant thing about the whole meal was the cute little chick that came on top of the ice cream. I adore ice cream, but it was really mediocre and came with no toppings except canned whipped cream... just plain chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and a wafer. Not what I expected from a special Easter "sundae"! Oy. This was by far our least favourite meal in Cornwall.

Probably the worst service I've ever had today, I've been a loyal customer for years and this has…read morebeen a somewhat increasing occurrence recently. One manager was not even doing his job, instead seemingly wandering aimlessly. Clearly didn't know what he was doing and took awhile to serve us so we could place orders. After finally ordering we managed to sit down and waited for our mains, and continued to wait 2 HOURS for food. Had thoughts about leaving and just getting a refund but after 2nd time complaining they came instantly. Food was uncooked on one plate and on others overlooked or raw. Honestly regretted going to the restaurant altogether. However the music was bumping and the other manager Sarah redeemed the meal by being kind and understanding, would recommend her generally overall. Because of that I'm giving 3/5 stars.

If your offering an all you can eat menu then you have to keep a plentiful amount of fresh hot food on offer, yet again we had to stand in line for 15 minutes looking at empty trays getting very frustrated as half our party were eating and the rest left standing. When I complained to the chef he replied that he hates Friday nights fish menu as it's always the same!! Management take note your going to lose customers!

TOURIST TRASH - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE…read more Visited The Watermill on April 11th with family, expecting a nice meal. What we got instead was a greasy, overpriced disaster masquerading as a restaurant. I ordered the Rib Eye, which arrived drowning in oil and barely edible -- more gristle and fat than actual meat. It was like chewing rubber dipped in fryer grease. My wife's burger? A soggy, collapsing pile of regret. The bun was limp, the patty tasted like a frozen discount special, and the whole thing fell apart faster than our expectations. She tried to salvage it with a knife and fork but gave up halfway through. I wish I had done the same. We voiced our concerns to a young waiter who at least pretended to care and said he'd speak to the manager. Spoiler: no manager ever showed. The place wasn't even busy, so this wasn't incompetence -- it was straight-up cowardice. For the prices they dare to charge, you'd expect actual food and some shred of accountability. Instead, The Watermill serves reheated slop and hides when things go wrong. This wasn't just a bad meal. It was a shameless cash grab wrapped in the illusion of a restaurant. Don't waste your time, money, or taste buds here. Go literally anywhere else.

We decided to take our, pre-booked, trip down to Cornwall a day after corona virus 'lockdown'…read moreended. We hoped that Cornwall was open and ready to receive visitors. There was no need to worry as we found this fantastic pub/restaurant on our first afternoon and sitting in the pub garden with my first pub pint for four months. We were so impressed with their techniques and set-up to avoid personal contact we booked a table for a meal that evening. The evening was no different with plenty of space between tables. The menu was a limited menu. Limited but with plenty of choice for most tastes. Service in the restaurant and bar was fantastic, friendly, professional and swift. We loved it so much that, the next day we booked for the evening. Interesting watermill outside with the inner workings displayed in the bar area. A pub and restaurant that is well worth a visit.

They instantly recognised that the ham had gone off and after my own research on the internet, I found a source also saying " If your meat is turning an unhealthy green, gray, or black colour that's a sure sign it's gone bad". Since they were too shy and polite to say anything, I told the barman/waiter about the problem. He then came to our table and offered another cut from the same piece of ham. Naturally, not wanting bad bellies, my mum and aunt refused. The barman then walked away and did not speak to us again during the whole time. We received no apology at all and were not offered anything else or even a partial refund. Not a word was said to us even as we left. This was our only meal out for our holiday here and we were really looking forward to it. We were mostly disappointed that we did not even receive an apology and there was no compassion at all. My best recommendation to all would be to AVOID this pub. However if you are happy with a bit of gone-off food and no compassion or understanding from the staff, this may be the pub for you! (Or perhaps not). I'm sure that this lack of compassion will be followed up via a comment from management, especially given the other comments given back on other customers' reviews.

We were starving and waited for a table for ages before being told the policy is to order the food - then you get a table. Very weird and non-standard, but the food I had made up for the wait. I had the lamb shank and my other half had the sausage and mash. The lamb was super tender and fell off the bone. The mash was ok - but the red wine sauce made up for it, and the veg was fresh. Tried a bit of the sausages and they were very tasty as well. Enjoyed dinner and ambiance here, would stop in again.
