It's set at the other end of the departure hall to the rest of the shops, bars etc, and as a result many passengers don't even realise it's there. Perhaps that's the reason that it is fairly quiet. Or perhaps that's because the whole airport is quiet! Whatever, it's nice not to be 5 deep at the bar at a Wetherspoons bar! They do a fairly extensive menu considering the size of the outlet, as well as all the drinks that you'd expect. Nice views from the seating area directly out over the apron (aeroplane parking), taxiway and runway to the control tower and fire station beyond, so it's a nice place to sit and watch the world go byalbeit at a much slower pace than most other commercial UK airports. Just a shame that they made it airside only as it would be much busier if passing trade were able to call in for lunches.

When we come from the States and meet up with friends there and always have a great time. The bar staff is really nice, the place has a great layout. You have two areas inside to choose from and a large patio outside. Yes, the patio is in the car park essentially, but they have made a definite break between the car park and the patio with nice landscaping and even in ground lighting. The best night? Monday! Quiz night is a TON of fun here. Even though I know very few of the answers (I blame being American), I still have a great time. I've promised to do the quiz/be the quizmaster. The WiFi is the fastest around, and we're always looking for somewhere to use our American smartphones for free. The only thing I would definitely skip is the food. My husband and I ate dinner before quiz night one of the evenings we were there and it wasn't good. Skip the food and go for the fun.

Feeble attempt at ageist segregation with a slight partition & pool table, which unfortunately was occupied by prepubescents beyond their years with attention seeking 'needs'. The regulars of more mature years just stand & take it whilst the destruction of their pub culture takes place around them. Their posture suggests I'm over 20 & can't play pool because that's in the 'young space' & all this is progress that I just have to accept. A good pub appeals to all ages. We are not simply 'customers' we are 'patrons' We are human beings who work hard all week & want more than 'wall -to-wall' television with generic 'sky news' & sport. Dim the lights, play a few tunes (for all age groups!) have a laugh (it's a bloody pub for gods sake!). And turn the bloody TVs off!!!! All the money that goes into a pub, you'd think that those running it would have an appetite & imagination for people!

The car park is tatty - imagine an unkempt farm, random bits of metal, chickens, bathtubs, broken cars, sheds with grass growing out the roof - and you've got the general idea. Inside it's a bit better but still rather tired and dated (and not in a good way) They seem to have a very high staff turnover (there's always a board outside advertising for bar/kitchen staff) which may explain some of it, but the key staff seem to have been there for years. Food is generally the same stuff you get in any average pub - heated up rather than home-made, and the Sunday roast is pretty poor. I'd recommend a trip up to Hatfield Woodhouse instead to the Green Tree where the food is top notch and a lot cheaper! Shame - it's a beautiful village, the nicest in the area in my opinion, and it really deserves better.

Palfrey's Lodge in Cantley is a large pub/restaurant with an indoor kids play area. I've only ever…read morebeen there through the day with the kids, and I've found it to be pretty good on the two occasions I've been there. The play area is big enough to keep the kids amused for an hour or so while you eat, and it seems to be well enough maintained. My little boy just went round and round to go on the slide constantly for nearly two hours. I had steak sandwich both times because it was so good the first time! Go for it without the mushrooms though - it's much better. Plenty of parking out the back and a nice easy location in Cantley. I've heard that it can sometimes be a bit rough but I haven't seen that through the day.

I definately recommend ma hubbards and in the past have eaten here every night of a week
