I always felt news was supposed to be truthful and tell the story. Unfortunately this far left newspaper only gives one side and passes off a report as being a " story" when in fact it should go under the opinion column. Would not recommend picking up one to read none less subscription. read more

One Pulitzer in the bag,and maybe another one on the way? The Blade, Toledo's daily newspaper, is on a roll. Three Blade reporters won a Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for a series investigating atrocities committed in Vietnam by an elite US Army platoon called Tiger Force. The series not only garnered a Pulitzer but also exposed a long buried history of abuses by the unit and a coverup by its leaders. More importantly, it lit or fanned an investigative flame at the Blade. Now, the Blade has uncovered and led the investigation of a massive political scandal in Ohio, including the disappearance of millions of state Workers' Compensation Fund dollars invested by a Republican operative in a rare coin fund. Last week the state's governor, Bob Taft--yes, of THOSE Tafts--pleaded no contest and was convicted of 4 counts of failing to report gifts. Taft is now under pressure to resign and is facing possible impeachment, despite the fact that every statewide office but one is held by fellow Republicans. The scandal even touches the Bush White House, since the coin dealer, Tom Noe, is a former Toledo Republican chairman and raised millions of dollars, and donated thousands of his own dollars, to Republicans from Bush-Cheney on down. The Blade's motto has for decades been "One of America's Great Newspapers". Back in the paper's less ambitious days, my brother and I used to chuckle and say, "One of America's Newspapers". The Blade has certainly earned the word Great for its work on these stories, and others, like its hard-hitting investigation of Congressman Mike Oxley--yes, the Mike Oxley of Sarbanes-Oxley. After my current subscription ends, I will not be subscribing ever again. Their customer service and accounting departments are SO FAR out if left field it's not even funny. Last December I signed up for a 52-week 'Sunday Only subscription. I didn't get the paper the first couple of weeks, but got a bill. I didn't receive any paper so I wasn't going to send in a check. I called and they apologized and would "credit" the account for missed delivery. After I received the paper 2 weeks in a row delivery stopped. I called and they apologized again - "we'll credit your account". It was another 2 weeks before I saw the paper again. Whenever I would call I made it clear that I was going to send in my check, but was hesitant as I didn't want to keep calling every month. I just wanted the paper! After the last call I mailed in my check and all seemed well..... In August of this year I received a letter saying my subscription was about to expire. What?!? This letter had an 'end date of August 22nd. The original bill that paid off of said service was until December. I called...and called....and called. I left messages and called some more. I was finally able to talk to someone and they said my account was $13 past due and I needed to pay $18 for an additional 12 weeks. the 12 weeks would take the subscription until the December date. I asked several times (I was very polite and respectful on the phone) to please explain why this happened. "This doesn't make any sense, please explain why I need to pay more than what my bill said I needed to pay" She stated that when I started the subscription in December I was already behind. I didn't pay until Feb & by then the $78 was only going to take me to August. I asked why didn't the original bill reflect those charges. She said they did on this 'new subscription' statement..... All I wanted is for someone to explain this to me in a way that I could understand. May sound dumb, but signing up for a $78 - 52week SUNDAY ONLY special BUT having to pay an additional $31 for it to continue to the date you originally signed up on......it doesn't make sense! bah! read more

As a paper that uses a digital format for most days per week, one would think that everything digital would work. My gripe, aside from the right wing bias, is that trying to pull up the pdf format doesn't work half the time! No matter what search engine is used! At first, I thought I was trying to pull it up too early in the day. Nope. Then I thought someone who is supposed to be sure the pdf version is available was on vacation. Nope, unless they are still on vacation. Then, there are days when the pdf does come up, but it is from the previous day's issue. What gives? I just renewed but every time this happens, I just want to scream!!! And one of the days I threaten to cancel my subscription, I just will! read more

Well now that the paper is going digital two days a week I guess they seem to think they don't have to put ads in the Sunday paper now!! This paper really sucks! Now they are forcing people to pay extra for WiFi GB to be able to read the stupid paper on computer! For what? You have more advertising in the news section than actual news! And I am not getting a break on price for printed paper- looks like it is time to cancel!!! read more

It's impossible to get rid of these people. I got a free subscription and after it ended they kept sending me papers and late notices. I cancelled numerous times and they kept sending the paper and late notices. Then they started calling to collect like I owed them when I cancelled countless times. They are like a virus. I Received a promotion of $4.99 for six months of the Sunday news paper. I signed up thinking it would be nice. At the third month of my 6 month contract, I received an additional $4.99 charge on my credit card. When I Called to inquire I was told by what seemed to be a high school student that the charge is proactive for when the promotion ends. ?? Really? So I asked them just to clarify "you start charging from now for what may or may not want when the six months end?" His reply was yes, and that I could always go back after the six months and get my money refunded. Really The Blade?? I ended up canceling the subscription. No apology from their end. What a joke. We cancelled our Blade subscription years ago because of the poor quality of product; I guess this is what I get for giving them a second (and last) chance. read more

If I could, I would rate the customer service and delivery a half star. We get about half the papers delivered in a week. Some Sundays we only get a few sections and extra ads. Now that my road has construction and is closed on one end, I can't have a paper delivered anymore (even though I did get a couple last week when it was also closed at the same end). I have so many credited days, I doubt that I will ever be able to use them! Time to cancel. read more

After repeated e mails to the paper about their lousy delivery I am fed up. I have explained numerous times how it is extremely difficult for me to crawl down my front porch to get the paper. I have really bad knees but my pleas fall on deaf ears. Unfortunately my husband enjoys reading the paper which is fine but by the time he gets home the thing will have sat out in the weather for God knows how long. Why this is such a monumental problem for the carrier,i don't know. A few extra steps on their part would save me so much grief. We have been subscribers for DECADES!
