Behind it, well off the road is a 2 story block of about 10 rooms. Ample parking. My wife and I stayed at the Inn and had dinner. The room was large, with a nice bathroom. There was a TV and tea pot. The bed was firm but comfortable. The room looks out onto a large lawn behind the pub. £95 for our double room. The food we had at the restaurant was exceptional. We started with the prawns with a sweet chili sauce. The prawns were tempura style, crisp, light batter over tender, moist prawns. The sauce was excellent. I had the fried duck breast over noodles with hoyson sauce. Perfect! The haddock and chips my wife had was superb as well! The fish was a huge fillet, moist and firm with a light, crisp shell. The chips were great, but the fresh mushy peas were even better. We washed it down with a wonderful bottle of Chilean Syrah. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The atmosphere comfortable.

Three things stood out. 1 great service 2 great food 3 lovely relaxing atmosphere. Although the car park is quite small this should not put you off. There is a small seating area out in the front. Inside the decor is very nice, with an open fire place which is used in winter. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I recommend this pub to all wanting a quiet drink, although there is a not a wide choice of beers on offer, that shouldn't matter. Highly recommended.

The menu is pretty big and a specials board that adds more choices. We ordered to items from the specials board, the chicken had good flavor but it seemed like it had been cooked and sat for a while. Some parts were a little dried out. The other dish was a pasta dish that could of used a little more flavor. It was later in the evening when we arrived so the kitchen was most likely winding down when ordered. The village of Haxby is not exactly the beaten path but this pub has lots of local flavour and most of the folks in there were locals. If you get your meal before 645pm there are early bird specials and we took advantage of that both of us having the steak and ale pie which was really excellent served with chips and a fresh green salad. Lots of selection on the menu and a good dessert menu as well. It's a free house so there was a good selection of beers and ales and a really great selection of gin (gin corner) behind the bar. The waitresses were attentive and friendly and we had beer and food in no time at all. Highly recommend.

Best find on holiday ever!!…read more Set in a beautiful little village with a huge village green with loads of parking round and about (although im sure that on a mid summer sunny day parking may be somewhat difficult!). The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. You cant really get a better recommendation than that can you??
