The Bistro - Cooke City Overall, a decent experience. The food was good, although the portions were a little on the small side. Service was friendly but somewhat slow during our visit. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. Nothing really stood out, but it was an enjoyable enough meal overall. read more

What a beautiful day to sit on the patio and have a delicious lunch! Service is fantastic - everyone is so nice and welcoming. Burger was done to perfection. Club sandwich and BLT were both great. Prices are awesome! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. read more

Hamburger served was raw. Only one person speaks English if you have a question. No AC and it's 90 degrees.

Do yourself a favor and order the mountain man burger. After a morning full of hiking this hit the spot. Maybe the best burger I've had. Service was fast. We arrived just before a wave. read more

Awful. Terrible. Yuck. Expensive for awful food. 2 trout meals half raw. 1 seafood alfredo was icky. The alfredo sauce was the powdered parmesan cheese mixed with oil. . The waitress knew we were disgusted but didn't seem to care. Do yourself a favor. PICK A DIFFERENT PLACE TO EAT! read more

From a dining point of view, Cooke City doesn't offer much...no surprise, it's a mountain town offering a launchpad to Yellowstone. That being said, we stopped by the Bistro for dinner. The menu was bigger than I expected. I ordered a basic hamburger and my buddy got the hamburger steak. Both were actually cooked exactly how I'd do them. Well done, crispy on the outside, and salty. The fries were my type too, thin and well done. Service was fine and polite. Prices were fine. I'd go back. read more

A decent dinner with excellent service. I had the trout which comes with a butter and parsley sauce. Though I requested light on the sauce, the fish was covered with it. I was able to scrape at least a tablespoon off before eating. My wife's grilled chicken was satisfying. Food and wine were reasonably priced. read more

The lunchtime food wasn't bad, but the service was quite poor and the prices were high for what you get. Plus, my wife noted that the carpet was extremely dirty. In short, this is not a destination that one should seek out. This is simply an acceptable place to rest and recharge when one has no other option. read more

Great service and friendly staff! Very egg accommodating. Beers and breakfast were delicious. Thank youu

We spent the morning at Lamar Valley and decided to drop by the small quaint town for a quick breakfast. Not having internet connection, we tried this place out of whim. It's your average breakfast diner joint with limited menu options . I got the combo #1 which came with egg, choice of meat, pancake and toast. It was alright and expected. My son got the French coast combo #4 with choice of meat. My wife got the breakfast special. Overall, it filled our tummy but nothing to write a 4 stars review on. The wait staff was very nice although the interior looked a bit run down. read more

They serve American foods like sandwiches, soups, salads for lunch. I had a club sandwich which was quite tasty and my spouse had boneless trout which was delicious, served with a butter garlic parsley sauce. Both dishes came with skinny French fries. The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly although service was a little slow. The bathrooms need to be renovated. Outside seating is available. The restaurant is located on the main street of Cooke City. read more

Came in for breakfast. Coffee wasn't too good (very weak). I had a ham and Swiss omelette, with home fries and toast. Home fries were almost nonexistent (probably due to them running out as we overheard the waiter mention this to someone else). Plenty of salty ham and a good amount of Swiss cheese in the omelette. Place appeared clean; however, no hot water in either men's room or women's bathroom. Staff seemed nice and attentive. Doubtful we would return... read more

My husband and I stopped here for dinner after a long day of driving through Yellowstone. We were immediately greeted and seated at a large table. Stan was our server. Since this is a small restaurant in an isolated little town, some menu items weren't available (escargots, pork chops and salmon). They had many other good choices. I ordered a dinner salad and fettuccine Alfredo. The pasta and sauce were delicious and perfectly cooked! My husband had tomato basil soup with ravioli and hamburger steak with yummy mushroom sauce (he wanted more), steamed vegetables and a baked potato. I read yelp reviews about their desserts, so we tried their chocolate fudge cake with fresh whipped cream. We devoured it even though we were full. They also had cheesecake. Stan didn't say anything about creme brûlée so maybe that wasn't available. We talked with customers at several other tables who had also been in Yellowstone. It's a cozy place. read more

The food here was terrific! The French fries are homemade and amazing!! The service was decent! We sat outside, which was very nice! We did end up spending $70 for two people, and the restrooms were small and not the best in town read more

The Bistro - Trout, French fries, veggies, and salad! - American Near Me - Cooke City, Montana

First of all it's a cute little restaurant very small mom and pop style. Personally I thought the tables were a little bit sticky but it could just be the plastic protection that is wrapped on the Real wood tables. I thought the menu was very small and simple I ordered the burgers and fries which were really really good. I didn't think menu was kind of weird, you have seafood burgers and fries and pasta dishes. Kind of like you don't know which way you want to go with your menu. Even the appetizers they only had two options and one of the options was pasta???? But whatever no complaints it was a pretty decent restaurant for two or three people running the entire thing when we were there read more

The staff is friendly here, but the food is just so-so. My son and I had the trout and it was okay. They do not provide tartar sauce so that was a bummer. My husband and other son had their cheeseburgers and they were not impressed and found them to be sub-par. The fries were okay. It's fine if you need food, but I'd probably choose the Beartooth Cafe across the street over this restaurant. read more

Reviews on this place nearly deterred us, but we passed some folks outside the visitor center in Cooke City eating delicious-looking fries and we had to try! We are so happy we did! The burgers were great - each of my kids had a bacon cheeseburger (two of them, hold the cheese) and they devoured them. I had a BLT which was very tasty and the fries loved up the hype. The service was great. We were welcomed right in, our order taken right away and the food came promptly. Overall, great place to stop while visiting!! read more

Small breakfast spot in Cooke City to stop before heading into Yellowstone NP. Not much else was open so we decided to try this place out. The service was great. Not very busy here thankfully. Good was very filling and great. I ended up cleaning my plate and sharing across the table too! Bacon wasn't the usual crispy bacon I'm used to but still cooked and tasty though. Eggs and hash browns were fantastic and I was so full after stopping here! Coffee here wasn't quite a favorite though. I did hear that the coffee/tea at elevation can be a little weaker so I'm not sure if that's what it was. I'd recommend stopping in through if you are taking this route into or out of Yellowstone though. read more

Decided to grab lunch here after driving across Lamar valley. The place had both indoor and outdoor seating. It was a bit busy when we arrived around 12pm but got even busier when we left around 1pm. I went with the rainbow trout which was cooked in a pan. I wished they had a healthier version where it was grilled. It tasted ok. My included fries they were crunchy in terms of texture which is always a plus but tasted a bit dull as if they were out for a while. My wife went with the salad that had turkey. It was just an average salad. Finally we got two coffees and they were pretty cold. We had a weird incident where our waitress refused to give us the WiFi password stating it was for employee use only but overheard the other waitress giving it to another customer. We just asked the other waitress to give us the password and she did. Overall would try a different place if I were here read more

During our trip to Yellowstone, my girlfriend and I drove through the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park and decided to stop by a place to eat before coming across the bistro in the small town of Cooke city. According to the Yelp reviews I've read, People say this place is overpriced but honestly this place isn't that expensive considering this restaurant is in the middle of nowhere. Check was $23 for 2 burgers, fries, and a cup of coffee. Sure the menu was pretty basic compared to your average restaurant, but everything was made fresh to order and the Fries were piping hot. Also the server was very attentive and laid back. The only gripe I had with this place is the lipstick stain on my girlfriends cup of coffee(time for new ones?). read more

Overall was not impressed with my experience I had the rainbow trout. it was very under seasoned and was not de boned upon bringing this up it was promptly comped. Our party also had the pesto fettuccine and hamburger steak and those were both very under seasoned. Our server was absolutely amazing, very nice and helpful throughout the entire experience. Overall I would recommend expecting to use salt and be caution with the fish. I would recommend the cafe down the road. read more

His place I thought was pretty not great. It smelled old in a musty way in there. They don't have an actual espresso drink selection, but they did let me bring in a latte from the gas station. The waiter actually turned off the open sign once the restaurant was full instead of having people wait and then complained that people "couldn't read" the sign. Their cheese was the processed kraft-like cheese. The chairs were awful and old. Would not go back. read more

This place struck me as pretentious and overpriced. They wanted $20 for a bowl of fettucine alfredo. I was able to order a kid's meal of the pasta (for $10 or $14) and it was actually quite good and a large enough portion that I couldn't finish it. But it took some arm twisting to get them to give me the kid's portion. I was carrying out, not dining in, and had the hardest time requesting silverware to go with my dinner....I ended up having to mime a fork and knife! So, in essence, the food is good, but pricey and the service is OK, not great. read more

I have eaten here for the last 3-4 years with my Naturalist Journeys tour group and have always had a very good meal. Richard and family have a great menu an a surprising wine list. As for prices, I think they re reasonable for the area and if I was in a city of any size, I wouldn't even blink. The lamb, homemade french fries and creme brule are all outstanding. The portions re large and you won't walk away hungry! read more

Don't COME here WITHOUT A WHITE FACE！This is the worst Restaurent I have been to. I give this place one star and I really don't think it worth it. I do believe the waitress treat me very rude because I am a colored people, because she is more than friendly to two white couple next to me. She ignore my request deliberately and I am the only guest who didn't receive a "Thank you for coming" while all white guest received. However the waiter was very friendly so I still left a 18% tip. read more

The food and service was excellent. They are obviously a lean operation, but everyone was hustling and friendly. The fettuccine bistro with chicken was delicious and creamy. Nice atmosphere and the food is upscale compared to the burger and steak options in town. I've been hear twice now and I've been satisfied on both occasions. read more

I know that there aren't that many dining options here in Cooke City, but please do yourself a favor and skip this place. We came here for dinner after leaving Yellowstone National Park. The bistro restaurant, with its cabin-like appearance and glistening lighting, looks inviting and promising from the outside. However, dining here was a different story. Food was adequate, but for over $20 a dish it was not worth it. Service was horrible. Our server was dressed in clothes that you would see on someone walking down the street. However, he was actually dressed a lot better than his coworker whose shorts had fallen down so low that his boxer was sticking out of his behind. Our server also didn't speak good English. There were communication problems during the food ordering process. And on top of everything, he didn't bring us silverwares when he brought us our food. I asked him for a bottle of ketchup to go with the fries and he came back with an empty bottle. We ordered the seafood fetuccini and the seafood cassoulet. The check came out to around $60 with the two entrees plus tip. Overpriced. Not worth it. read more

Stopped in on the way to Yellowstone. Such a cute town and a super cute bistro. I'm not sure what is going on with all the negative reviews. But the food was good. I had the bacon cheeseburger and the fries were amazing. And the service was great. Would highly recommend this place. Oh the other plus side. We saw a black bear roaming through town! read more

Skip this place. Waitress complaining it's "too busy", chicken breast sandwich they sent me was the size of 2 chicken nuggets, and the chef told the waitress they'd give me $5 off my meal without asking if I preferred a new sandwich first. Prices aren't great either. read more

Cooke city have very few places to eat. This was the closet place to our motel. We went to this bistro around 8:00 pm. We ordered pesto pasta amd chicken breast. Although, staff and food was good but the wait time was long. It took them 50 mins to serve when the bistro was not even full. read more

These people were so nice!! We came in about 15 to close looking for somewhere to eat after we drove through the Lamar valley, and realized we were screwed, since most everything in Cooke City closes at 10. They let us sit, served us pasta, which was great!! Very friendly, very local vibe, and they all seem to know the area well. Thank you!!! read more

Amazing burgers!!! Just what I was looking for. Really good service and! Super friendly.

Avoid this place. Grossly over priced, fatty steaks. The waiter was nice he was a foreign exchange student from Ghana, he tried his best. When we asked for the wifi password which they have a sign advertising wifi, as the town has no cell service. We were told the manager said don't give the password to customers anymore. While waiting for our food two groups of 4-6 came in and sat down inquired about the wifi and got up and left. The steak was $35 and half of it was fat, the chicken was two small breasts un seasoned with frozen vegetables for $25. Ohh add a cup of chicken noodle soup, $4........ This whole town is ridiculous! read more

Several locals recommended another restaurant, but we sensed that it was because this place is new (and run by a foreigner, a Frenchman, after all!). And, yes, it's a newbie, but pulls its weight. We had a great meal here and would go back, were we to visit Cooke City again. The price was reasonable-- oh, and the creme brule was "to die for"! read more

This place was beyond awful. From being sneered at as "tourists" before we walked in to the awful service to the bad food. It's not pleasant paying $13 for fettuccine Alfredo while you can LOUDLY hear your server and the cook arguing. And when she wasn't in the kitchen to be yelled at he would come find her on the floor and accost her. The rest of the guests and I kept staring at each other incredulously. Get rid of Joel and maybe your restaurant won't turn off so many customers. read more
