Stopped by here for lunch after hiking Franey. Great food for great value. We got a large seafood chowder (homemade, creamy, filled with seafood chunks), veggie panini, and maple chicken panini. The Bean Barn Cafe is basically the only morning spot in Ingonish, which isn't bad. The food is and ambiance are good. If you are close by, stop in. On our way out of a the sleepy village of Ingonish, we stopped off at the Bean Barn to get breakfast to go. Instead, we sat down to eat a solid breakfast. Breakfast their specialty and they serve it all day. The Olde Tyme breakfast was good, the plate was filled with one or two eggs, toast and your choice of bacon or sausage. The line was long to order but the food came fast. One thing, you'll have to bring Canadian currency and debit cards as they don't take American money. read more

This cafe is just a few minutes away from Ingonish Beach. We stopped by for a quick bite and drink after the beach, and got an egg salad sandwich, chocolate chip cookie, and soy latte. Everything we got was super yummy - cinnamon roll, soup, omelette, chicken club and the carrot cake was amazing!!!!

From the great staff to a fantastic breakfast, I'd highly recommend making a stop here when you're in the area. We had the omelette, which was perfectly prepared and came with fresh in-house baked bread for our toast as well as homemade potato cakes. We also added lemon tart and cinnamon bun which were fresh baked that morning. Funky cafe style indoor dining, with a deck available for those wanted to eat outside. What a cute little café! Located next to the Glenghorm Resort they offer home-made baked goods and freshly made sandwiches. It is a little pricey, around $30.00 for two sandwiches and one bowl of soup, but with limited options in the area they can get away with that price. I had the turkey bacon club and it was delicious - I recommend getting honey mustard on it. He had the smoked meat sandwich; he said it was tasty, but the meat was too chewy and difficult to pull apart when biting. We split the seafood chowder - it tasted like fish, but we didn't see any in it... weird! read more

Watch out for this place. They will not tell you and it is not posted. They charge 25 % more for US dollars. They do not take charge cards. Only cash or debit. We were charged approximately $13 more US for a $41 Canadian meal. Food is good. Their attitude when this is brought to their attention is not very nice. read more

This is a great little gem for Ingonish to have. Although they are short on staff, they try super hard to get you your food quickly. I think they need some more training on multi tasking but they try. The breakfast is pretty good. I heard the coffee is good. Tea is higgins and burke and speciality drinks come out of a machine, so those are negatives in my books. But I understand how expensive espresso machines can be. The food is alright. A tad on the pricey side. The pizza is good, but the sandwiches could use some more fresh ingredients. But....with the lack of take out choices in the area, this place does do the trick. read more

The food and coffee was good but the guy making the food was an absolute jerk! I cringed as I overheard the way he talked to his coworkers. He yelled at one of the girls for the way she cut a bagel...calm down Ramsay!!! I even overheard him rudely tell a customer to put a mask on (the mask rule isn't the issue, he could have politely reminded him!). I don't plan on supporting this kind of environment... ill wait until the cafe up the road opens at 9 next time. read more

We stopped in to the Bean Barn today and were quite pleased. Hubby got a turkey and bacon sandwich and I got a ham and Swiss panini. Both were tasty and included a side of ripple potato chips. The price was fair and the staff were friendly. We lived the idea of a boxed picnic lunch, although we didn't take them up on it and decided, instead, to eat inside. Our table was next to the piano and we enjoyed people watching while eating our lunch. Our only complaint was that the door slams if not closed carefully. It is loud and jarring. It needs one of those pneumatic door closers OR a sign that says "please close the door gently." The restaurant itself was casual and cozy. The washrooms were clean. Although not many choices to eat breakfast in Ingonish. I would find another than the Bad Bean Barn Cafe. As a travel destination and not taking Visa/MasterCard is crazy and poor business practice. No conversion were granted. $40 US, 3 egg wraps and coffee. The lady also is very rude and poor operation. " Did you enjoy that bagel?" We did not order a bagel... OH the bean barn. What a busy place you are for what you have to offer but then again what does anyone have to offer in this lovely area of our province when it comes to hot food? We stopped in for lunch. Both of us had the spicy chicken and bacon Panini sandwich. It was not bad but why oh god why use chopped up chicken fingers in it??? That was just plain off. Anyway the only other comment I have to say it that in the middle of the lunch rush while I waited for my order a short older man and women walked right behind the line (note this is the line in the kitchen I am referring to and not the back of the waiting line for customers. Cooks call the place where food is prepared a line as well) So they walked right behind the line and ordered and stood in the way while all orders waited for the staff to make them two little subs with all the special little things they wanted on it then walked past us paying customers to the back where I guess they would eat in a little office. For an FYI this is not what restaurant owners do or at least not the ones I worked for. They put the customers first and eat before the lunch rush or after not right in the middle of a lunch smack down. LOL Never seen anything like it. read more
