Doctors highly professional, ask the right questions, listen to your response and give excellent advice. They are quick to refer to relevant specialist where appropriate. Clinic staff are also well trained, polite and professional. You may have to wait a bit beyond your appointment time but remember it may be you that the Dr. spends a bit more time with too. There are times they are extremely busy but they always try to get you an appointment as soon as possible or a home visit if you are incapacitated and can't make it to the surgery.

Most doctors have a very poor manner in dealing with patients, acting as if our presence was an inconvenience, rushing through each appointment with solemn faces. We would be heavily chastised and even refused appointments for being no more than 3 minutes late, and yet were usually expected to wait at least 10 minutes after appointment time to actually be seen, which happens yes, but the attitude towards such minor lateness shows they value their own time much more than ours as patients. The best doctors we both dealt with were always locums, who would show the gulf in service with both bedside manner and time given. Receptionists, with the exception of one that we encountered were all severely rude, hugely poor in dealing with the public in person, and would always make you feel unwanted or like a waste of time. Again only seemed to value their own time. Would make you feel stupid for asking questions. Got to the point we actually put off going to the doctor because of the atmosphere and treatment we would receive, when we should feel happy and free to visit our doctor with any health concerns. Genuinely seems as if everyone has given up, doesn't care, and just does their job because it's their job - 'careerists'. No level of empathy or understanding to be found anywhere. The positive difference was obvious in almost every way once we switched doctors. Do not recommend if you want a doctor that cares.

This place is, without mincing any words, grubby. It had the feel, look, smell and taste (don't ask) of a doctors surgery......does anybody else feel instantly ill as soon as they walk into these places...even if your just waiting on somebody else... Anyway, there are a number of doctors on attendance, i think a few regulars, but it seems to change quite regularly. All of whom as professional, pleasant and doctor like. Not much else to say really, like most surgeries i have visited this one is in need of a bit of TLC, some new magazines, something to take away the faint smell of pee and maybe a telly, just to alleviate the abject boredom one suffers whilst waiting to be seen.

This is a training practice for medical students and as a patient you are not assigned to a particular doctor, but just whoever is there on the day, this is probably a downside to the medical practice that you don't get to know your doctor, another downside is the split opening hours, they are only open a few hours in the morning and then a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I did a quick search on the net and wrote down a few addresses, and then headed off to do a bit of a reccy. The first few surgeries on my list looked so awful that I didn't even go in. I was starting to wonder whether they had ANY nice looking surgeries in my area when I finally came across one that looked just about alright. I went in to find a very crowded small room, and dubiously asked the receptionist whether I could register with them. Unfortunately, she told me that they weren't registering patients at the moment - and pointed me in the direction of Abingdon Medical Practice on Stewartville Street. When I reached Stewartville Street, I swear a breathed a massive sigh of relief. Not only was it very clean and pleasant looking, when I got in it was bright airy and nearly empty. Registering was really quick and easy. It's easy to get an appointment, once you get there you don't usually have to wait for too long, and they have a large selection of magazines in the waiting room. The receptionists are also really nice, not like the grumpy ones you normally find in health practices. Basically, just about everything you could ask for from a doctors surgery.

So, signing up at a new GP for me was shaping up to be a bit of an ordeal but it really wasn't. The sign up was painless, the reception was so easy to deal with and friendly too. The following day I got a doctor appointment, even met the nurse who was very warm and friendly, made me feel right at home. So far, great experience with this medical practice. Couldn't ask for more really.
