I attended today, Sunday 5 February 2017, and found it fantastically enthralling. Our Tour Guide Adam delivered an informative and entertaining two hours, which at only £8 per person, was great value for money. We wandered at a leisurely pace viewing a huge number of beautiful, thought provoking and inspiring artworks. It's great to see there's so much more to Belfast than old, sectarian murals from our troubled past. Instead this tour highlights recent, contemporary, Urban Art in and around Belfast's Cathedral Quarter which has sprung up over the last few years revitalising and brightening the city. We learnt how different pieces of Street Art were created, the techniques employed, who the Artists are and background stories of how the works came to be. Thanks to Seedhead Arts, this is definitely the best thing currently happening in Belfast. I very highly recommend this Tour - it's wonderful food for the eyes and uplifting for the soul.

Cost was £10 per person and ticket booking via Belfast Art Tours website. Pickup was 6pm in the City Centre and over the course of three hours we visited a range of galleries including: Golden Thread The Bath House ArtisAnn EastSide Gallery (EastSide Visitor Centre) Whalley Gallery Framewerk Artcetera There were refreshments galore at each stop, including wine and beer, all of which were free. A few smaller galleries had tip-bowls so you could throw in a couple of pounds to contribute to the cost of your drink. Our tour guide Rhonda was wonderful, telling us all about the galleries, artists and exhibitions and ensuring we knew exactly how much time we had to spend at each place. Late Night Art occurs on the first Thursday of each month, during which galleries, studios and art spaces open their doors to welcome in the public. Although Belfast has a lively art scene, it can be intimidating visiting galleries, so a bus tour is a fantastic idea. The beauty of it being that you can do this tour numerous times and it'll never become stale, because there are so many galleries in Belfast and different exhibitions each month. A brilliant tour, which I recommend everyone should try and I'm looking forward to attending a few more.

The building was constructed between 1847 - 1854, firstly designed by George Smith in 1854 and later by the Belfast architect William Henry Lynn. The building was done in style of an Italian palazzo. It features some gorgeous marble mosaic floors and stunning stained glass windows the most impressive of which shows the Seal of Belfast Harbour Commissioners, others depict commerce, ship building and enterprise as well as featuring a number of the coat of arms of cities with which Belfast has done business. The site is also home to a fascinating art galley. The collection here has been built up over the years by Harbour Commissioners. The gallery is located in ornate and opulent rooms decorated in Victorian fashion, the art works nestle themselves happily on these walls. The rooms boast work from prominent Irish artists such as; William Conor and Joseph Carey. There are also a number of sculptures from France and Italy. Mainly though the collection is impressive in its historical importance. There are a number of old landscapes, historical events and relevant scenes from Belfast's past. For example there is an 1851 painting of Belfast Harbour's Ferry Steps. Other pieces include the portrait of Sir Robert Baird, Proprietor of the Belfast Telegraph and Harbour Commissioner from 1932 to 1934. As part of European Heritage Weekend on 11th & 12th of September the Belfast Harbour Office will be open to the public for a chance to view the fascinating history within its walls and sneak a peek at the famous art collection.

A Belfast native, he grew up during the era of the Troubles, but his memory stretches from the settlement days and in and around every corner. You'll find on his eclectic tours that you can steer the discussion in any direction you wish. You'll only fail at trying to temper his enthusiasm. I understand that he offers tours that focus on history or street art or other specific subjects or neighborhoods, but I imagine your best bet would be to do as we did and just unleash him. Belfast is a city with good restaurants and attractions but a good tour helps bring out the incredibly rich history and will certainly show you a hole-in-the-wall or two you'd never have otherwise found. We went out on the town for a pretty unscripted three hours. My 78 year-old father started to fade along the way, so Marti detoured to a nearby spot for a quick cuppa, enabling our small group the legs to carry on. Next time I may leave Dad behind in order that I might test Marti's stamina in full. And if you still aren't convinced this is a great way to introduce yourself to local lore, take a gander at the glowing comments on Trip Advisor.

The newest fad to hit Belfast...bus tours. They've suddenly popped up everywhere, being publicised…read moreon every street corner, with ads in every local magazine you read. Ulster Bus are the latest to join this craze, so we thought we'd check them out. My brother purchased three tickets online for £8 (I'll let you do the maths), which is a good few quid cheaper than the other tour companies charge. Off to a good start in my books! With five bus tours running a day, we chose the 11:30am one (there's also 10am, 1pm, 2:30pm and 4pm) and set off for the Europa Bus Centre. The bus driver was a "jolly happy soul", and did remind me of Santa in his younger years, so this doubly pleased me. The Ulster Bus tours are quite different from the other tours in that the buses are not open top, which does restrict your photograph taking, but does keep you dry. Which is usually quite necessary in Northern Ireland. However, today the sun had decided to put its hat on, and the bus was decidedly warm. Continuous complaints of "oh my word, I'm gonna pass out" and "flip sake, I'm soooo warm" ensued from my sister. But she was right...it was a bit too hot, even with the air con. We're never happy, are we? Anyway, back to Mr Jolly Happy bus driver. He gave us some earphones - the comfy kind - and went on his merry way. Off we set, joined by an Aussie who was firing out questions left, right and centre. More than happy to oblige, we answered them all, and provided a few nuggets of information that the commentary didn't. Which brings me to my main complaint. The commentary wasn't long enough, nor detailed enough. The Aussie guy was getting his moneys worth, but if I had known nothing about Belfast before the tour, that knowledge would only have increased half of what it should have been. The route could have been extended a bit, but we got round all the major parts - right into the heart of West Belfast, up the University Quarter in the South, and towards the Titanic Quarter in the East. I wasn't hugely disappointed, but then neither was I hugely satisfied. The fact that the bus driver was so lovely, and 'the price was nice' does throw some positivity on things though, and if you're off for a bus tour on a wet day, Ulster Bus will sort you out nicely.
