PLACE is the architecture and built environment centre for Northern Ireland which in laymans terms means it's an environmental/educational centre which aims to make the people of Northern Ireland more aware of the disastrous effects we are having on our environment and hopes to promote new ways of both thinking and building in our country hoping to result in a more positive and brighter future. It is one of many centre around the world if its kind which aim to promote architecture, building and design.
PLACE regularly hosts events, exhibitions and talks relating to this which aims to educate people regarding this cause. The last time I visited there was an exhibition on called 'Contested Spaces'. This was made up of sculptures made from a digital art form which "aims to create debate around the notional value of these spaces, their perceived ownership, and the degree to which that ownership affects the attitudes of those that use them." The sculptures are digitally transferred on top of various locations around Belfast. Now, maybe it's just me, but I think if you're going to do something like make a sculpture, you could at least do it, not just pretend to do it on computer. I like the idea of what they're doing, but I only wish they could pull it through. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this whole thing takes a heck of a lot of time, work and effort and is all very complicated so I don't want to put the artists down, but I just think it could have been put in to practise more. The images were interesting but it didn't particularly draw my attention.
