Being asked to write a review of The Bat Caves is akin to being asked to recreate Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. You just stare at in awe, think about where you would even begin, stare some more... and give up. I gave up almost a month ago to the day when I moved out of my home of six months and have since been burning circles in the sky asking myself... how the hell do you write a review on this place and actually put it into words?! There is really only one direction to go with it... Before Moving to Altus Checklist... 1. Badass Landlords - Engage Mike and Skylar will go above and beyond to make sure everything from billing to everyday needs are taken care of. They will even show up every now and then with a fresh shipment of steaks, a closet full of T-Shirts and some Bat Cave swag that is the most sought after stuff in Altus. (People actually started a bidding war over Bat Cave Shirts). 2. Altus - Disengage Who gets excited about going to Altus? Stop... the answer is no one. That would be like saying you're excited for your next run to the Deid. But honestly, I would go for six months out of every year if I got to stay in The Caves (slang term used by everyone in Altus to describe the only good place to hang out in town). Everyone who enters The Cave is guaranteed to be a bro. And I'm not talking today's new Air Force bro who wears mirrored shades and worries about hair cuts and uniform regs. I'm talking Robin Olds mustache rocking, whiskey drinking, sleeves rolled, zipper hanging on for dear life bros. Nuff said. 3. Throttles - Max Don't expect to move into The Cave and live with a bunch of hermits. You go to work to throttle back. That is to say... there is always a good time to be had and people to have them with. 3am (in the morning) runs to F-Ship... on a weekend... that's child's play. On a random Tuesday night... now we're talking. 4. Cleaning - Checked on, lights out Between vacationing at work and working while at The Cave's, the last thing you want to worry about is cleaning. And you don't have to, because Crystal and her crew arrive promptly every Tuesday to make the house look brand new and clean everything you can thing of. First class service. 5. Adulting - Test in progress Adulting is never recommended in The Caves, but when it is required you'll find a network of people with endless amounts of knowledge, help and gouge. When it's actually time to make shit happen, you can count on a quiet, helpful and respectful house to get work done. This happened about twice in six months! Minimal adulting at all times. 6. Victory - Clear If your goal is to get in and out of Altus unscathed and meet plenty of solid people... victory is in site. Look nowhere else. 7. Environment - Loaded, checked and set Being the old guard 135 guy walking into a house full of younger C-17 bros instantly added a couple more gray hairs to my head. But the truth is, I had the time of my life at Altus and won't stay anywhere else when I make it back there next time. Book early because availability is sure to be tight, but rest assured Mike and Skylar will do everything in their power to make your transition smooth and painless. Tired of people telling you that Altus isn't the entertainment capital of the world? Well all it takes is one TDY stint in The Bat Cave to prove them all wrong. Private rooms with queen sized beds. Free DirecTV in each room. NFL Sunday Ticket, check. The Ronda Rousey fight, check. Included HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax, also check. TV not your thing, then just walk out to the outdoor sun room with ping pong table included. Perfect for a "variety" of games. Regardless, fun will be had. I know what your thinking, but yelp reviewer, I'm an outdoorsy person, what does The Bat Cave have to offer me? Well, you're in luck. The Bat Cave also has a propane grill, charcoal grill, corn hole, and a giant shed to store all of your camping, hiking, ice picking, parasailing or skydiving gear. All in a wonderful closed in back yard, perfect for the occasional nude tanning session. Now brings me to the owners. Hands down the most efficient system I've ever seen in dealing with customers questions and comments. I don't know them, but one day hope to. Their responses come in fast. Usually within 30 minutes. They must not get out much because nobody can check and respond to emails that quickly. They have a wonderful maid who keeps everything neat. She comes in once a week and doesn't let any of your pigsty behavior get out of hand. The neighbors are a little average. They keep to themselves, but they've never bothered us either. You're roommates are always friendly. I don't know how they screen their tenants, but every new person who moves in is an automatic new great friend. The location is good. Very good actually. Right across the street from Walmart and a block or so down from Jersey Mikes. Two Altus staples. Lastly, the name is so good. It makes this place so much more than just a roof over your head. Everybody around Altus has heard of The Bat Cave, and the reputation and population continues to grow. So overall, a fantastic experience that can only be described as fast, neat, average, friendly, good, and good. Thanks Bat Cave. Keep being awesome! read more

I moved out of the Bat Cave about two weeks ago. What took me so long to write a review, you ask? It really comes down to two reasons. First, and most notably, I'm extremely lazy and love to procrastinate. Second, I'm terrible at writing and expressing my feelings. That being said, I really can't put into words how great the Bat Cave is when it comes to TDY crashpads. My first piece of advice for anyone headed to Altus is DEFINITELY stay in a crashpad. My second piece of advice is that no other crashpad comes close to competing with the Bat Cave. The Bat Cave outranks all other because of three simple things. First, success rate. You're not coming to Altus to be a terrible pilot, are you? While staying at the Bat Cave, there are always bros around days, weeks, and months ahead in the program, willing to answer questions you have and help you prepare for upcoming events. Second, comradery. I was only in the Cave for three and a half months, but I built some amazing friendships with guys I hang out with all the time here in McChord. Whether you're going into C-17s or KC-135s, it's a small community, and to be able to start friendships before getting to your next base is awesome. Finally, social life. I don't know about you, but I like to enjoy my weekends and do something fun. Altus, the town is not fun. At the Bat Cave, there was always something going on. Whether it was a costume party at the house or a weekend trip to OKC, there was always something to do. So I'll leave you with this, if you are LUCKY enough to get a spot at the Bat Cave, you will do well in your training program, meet a lot of great guys/gals, and have a great time. I spent 6 months in beautiful Altus, and staying at the Bat Cave made what I thought would be a miserable time into an absolute blast. Both Mike and Skylar (the owners) were very accommodating in the setup and in the transactions. They respond quickly and efficiently to both emails and texts and even made a personal visit to see if there was anything we needed. Their is no tomfoolery with these guys, they will do anything they can to make sure that your stay here is the best part of Altus. The room accommodations were very nice and they had plenty of space for you and any extra "stuff" you might have brought along. Privacy was never an issue and you always had a place to study or to get wild, with the latter being being reserved for Wednesday nights. The house has a warm and friendly feel to it, and every single person that I have seen come through this place has become good friends with every other roommate. The maid service was fantastic and kept the house looking clean and in SAMI order. You'll never have to worry about messy roommates while you're here. Additionally, all the "normal" house stuff was taken care of (paper towels, dish soap, etc.) In all, I was actually sad to leave this place as life had never been so easy as it was living there. The Bat Cave was a very enjoyable experience and I would stay there again in a heartbeat if and when I go back to Altus. read more

How great is the Batcave..? It's not great... It's FANTASTIC! You totally undersold it. The pageantry, the costumes, wow what a crash pad. Where can I possibly begin... I'll split it into some categories using the LAI acronym; 3-3 tech-cedure only: Location: With it's close proximity to such Altus night life hot spots as the Friendship Inn (at various times of neon functionality it can also be seen as the Fiendship Inn or the F Ship), Fred's Steakhouse, Jersey Mikes, and Wal Mart, I could hardly find a time to sleep! From leaving the Cave to walking in the C17 simulators briefing room the Batcave lies at roughly 10 minutes 44 seconds.. repeating of course (I can't speak to the 135s, but legend has it it's been done sub 10). Amenities: The cave offers a one of a kind experience (technically two of a kind but.. semantics). 5 bedrooms, 5 pilots, 3 bathrooms, 2 fridges, 2 freezers, 12 windows, 2 car garage with a 1 car backup garage, 3 exterior doors, 5 sinks, 1 awesome weekly cleaner, and 4 walls.. I could go all day but nuff said. Debauchery level 12. Implications: When you say you live or lived in the Batcave people know what kind of person you are right off the... bat. Only the best. If you are lucky enough to secure a spot in the Cave you will be joining a fraternity of intellectuals. A house of learned pilots. That will be all for now; you are free to go. read more

I won't try to persuade you to stay at The Batcave with my outrageous tales or clever little monologues, but instead I will just tell you that this is the highest caliber crashpad in the area. I visited several other crashpads where I had friends and classmates staying, and the Batcave was easily the nicest one. Checking in was a breeze, my receipts for the stay were timely, and I had no problems at all when I filed my voucher. The house was kept spotless with their cleaning service the entire time I was there. The bed was amazingly comfortable and like everything else in the house, these guys spared no expense in comfort and high end finishes. I also have to complement them on screening anyone that was going to be less than a high quality roommate. Everyone got along fine, no problems with getting rest before flights, and we all had a good time hanging out there on the weekends. Perhaps what sets the Batcave apart the most is the level of service. Even the smallest problem was immediately addressed and fixed. We even got surprise presents showing up like every other week. One day a bluetooth garage opener was sent for all of our phones, and another week, an xbox one magically appeared in the main living room. This place made my stay in Altus not just bearable, but it was actually enjoyable. Make sure it's your first option when you pass through here. read more

If you were to combine the comforts of home with the ease and convenience of an AirBnB you would get the Batcaves. In fact, my experience would put the the Batcaves above home when it comes to amenities & overall experience. Whether it's the beer keg, by the poker table sitting next to the cigar/drink bar, or enjoying some NFL on the big screen in the living room after several games of shuffleboard and Xbox - the Batcaves have it all. I stayed in the newest house (Batcave 3) and was blown away by the modern interior that was very open and made a big house seem bigger, even with 4 other roommates. Altus is not a large town by any means, so the list of things-you-can-do-when-bored is fairly limited within the town limits - but the Batcaves mitigate those 1st world problems with 1st world comforts. Fast internet Wi-Fi, Bluetooth sound bar system (living room), NFL Sunday Ticket, Xbox, outdoor grill, Keurig, list goes on. I was in the master bedroom - pretty much an apartment within BC3. Highlight for that in particular was the fact that I had a Jacuzzi bathtub (which I never used) along with a walk-in closet, a standalone shower and toilet topped off with two sinks on a large vanity. Absolutely awesome experience with both of the bat caves and would recommend getting you're reservations in with them early because the service they provide surpasses all that I've seen. The houses: I've stayed in both and they are both in great shape and set up for a great time to both relax and get together with other friends who love Altus as much as you do. Cleaning lady comes once a week and does a great job, cleans the whole house, and cleans your sheets/makes your bed. The kegerator is clutch and stocked with beer of your choosing. The owners: Plainly; incredible service and communication. They worked with me to book a bat cave with two other buddies of mine and made all of the arrangements for me, it was completely painless getting there and moving in, no work required on your part. Also, their communication is incredible, I don't know how often they check their email, but it must be at least 17,000 times a day because any time we needed something they responded within an hour and the answer was always yes. We requested a few things while we were here and the guys always came through and got us whatever we wanted/needed immediately. Stay here, just do it, it's the only crash pad where you're not just staying at a house, you're joining a club. read more

The bat cave is THE #1 place to stay in Altus if you are ever here for TDY hands down. Anyone that tells you otherwise should be admitted into a psychiatric ward. The last thing you want to do in training is come home to a stressful environment after a stressful day right? The cave is a prime place to set up you stress free zone. If you have any suggestions on how to better improve your experience here the owners are only an email/text away with a response time of about 2-3 minutes I'd say that's some great customer service. Whether you want to kick back and watch the UFC fight with the bros, grill up some top of the line beef, or even do an crazy hard puzzle, this place has everything you would want or need. If it doesn't shoot the owner a text and they will see about getting it here for you. The wonderful Crystal does a phenomenal job keeping the cave clean and in working order she should have a statue erected in her honor. They've gone above and far beyond my expectations of a crash pad, replacing older equipment in the house before it broke down or just because there is a better version out there. All I know is when I come back to the hustle and bustle of Altus these guys will be getting a call first. read more

As I look back on my stint at the Bat Cave the only comparison I can make to give this experience the recognition it deserves is to a bachelor party in Las Vegas. The only differences are you're there for three months instead of three days and you'll walk away with that cold, hard TDY cash instead of just a sunburn and a hangover. It doesn't matter if you're there for C-17 PIQ training or you're some crusty 31 year-old KC-135 pilot wanna-be (Jay), you'll bond with whoever is in the house and spark a friendship that will last for the rest of your career. And who knows, one of the guys may end up even marrying your sister...oh wait, that already happened. In all seriousness Mike and Skylar were awesome landlords and always waiting in the whims to fix the next crisis, no matter how big or small. While I was there I heard from buddies that other crashpads were having trouble with their maids not showing up, but never Crystal. She was always very punctual and respectful of your space and left the place looking spotless. First thing I'm going to do when I get my TDY orders to go back to Altus is give Mike and Skylar a call to book a room at the Bat Cave because I couldn't have imagined a better experience. read more

Mike and Skylar seriously know how to put a quality place together to make sure your stay at Altus goes smoothly and is a good time. These guys bend over backwards to make sure your needs are tended to and truly care about your experience and training. But most of all, they are very good at selecting great people to stay with you and turn this TDY into a bro fest. Beer on tap, great cigars, and some bros to watch football, the olympics, game of thrones, and pregame for scoots with. Couldn't ask for better. Highly recommend and going back to them every time Altus beckons This is my 2nd time training in Altus and just like before, the Bat Cave exceeds all expectations. From all the amenities, like poker tables, shuffle boards, ping pong tables, xboxs, great wifi, to the rooms and facilities in the houses themselves, Mike, Skylar and Crystal go above and beyond to make sure your stay is awesome. On top of that, between both stays, the Bat Cave provides a great place where you can kick it with some great people and have a good social experience as well as a good studying atmosphere. When the most interesting man in the world takes a break from his travels, he stays at The Bat Cave. Centrally located near What-A-Burger, Braums, and most importantly the Friendship Inn, he knows he won't go hungry with such esteemed culinary establishments close by. And when he is ready to experience the world renowned Altus nightlife, he's only a short jog away from Scooters. I heard he went streaking down the flight-line during his latest visit, and SF couldn't catch him. In all seriousness, The Bat Cave is hands down the best crash pad in Altus. After seeing what some of my bros stayed in, there's no comparison. All of the roommates were chill, the house was always clean (Crystal goes above and beyond to keep it in prime condition), and the amenities were outstanding (nice tv's, video games, appliances, quality couches, towels, beds, etc etc). Mike and Skylar are phenomenal landlords, and always replied to an email within 10 minutes. Seriously, I don't know how they did it. Anyway, next time you're in Altus- don't think twice, just stay at the cave. read more

As already described in other reviews, these are the best TDY crash pads you can imagine. I stayed in Bat Cave 2. The owners Mike and Skylar are on the ball with responding to any form of messaging within hours, regardless of their location in the globe. They were incredibly accommodating with any kinds of questions or needs. They will help anybody that has questions, whether it is about operational life in the Air Force, or if it's something dealing with the crash pad. The entertainment in the house is top notch. There is a poker table with eight seats, and that is perfect for hosting friends while TDY. Additionally, there's a 12 ft shuffle board and giant TV in the living room with plenty of couch space. As you read through other reviews, you'll see why these guys always have a 5 star rating. Bat Caves are the best to stay at. There are three locations and all of them are fantastic. These guys come highly recommended, and make sure to give them a call or text as soon as you find out you're headed to Altus. They're always booked, and for good reason! read more

Some would say it's great, I'll say it's a blast. Great house that comfortably fits 5 guests in style, the Bat Cave is arguably the best vacation home in Altus. When you aren't in the sims at all hours of the night or sweating out Whataburger on the flightline, you can throw back a cold one with 4 of your newest friends watching the game on the 60inch plasma in the living room. Enjoy a rousing game on the ps3 or venture to the pong room to relive your college days of marathon games. The house is great for for bringing people over to grill out and relax before a trip to Scoots or making it a night at the Cave before walking across the street for the all night breakfast buffet at the Friendship Inn. If the Bat Cave owners haven't provided it, it's most likely on order and will arrive in a comedically labeled box within the week. Great guys who want to make sure you are taken care of and will do everything they can to make your stay in Altus more enjoyable. The owners are not only hilarious and very personable, but they are legitimately the most professional landlords you will ever interact with. The Bat Cave is constantly working to improve your stay and by doing such, will make your quality of life better than it was back home. You'll meet great dudes and enjoy bro-ing out with new friends playing corn-hole, ping-pong, constantly beating Gabe Miranda in Madden, or having a 'Bat Cave' exclusive poker night. Mike and Skylar's interior decorating skills are the marks of true renaissance men. I had a great experience at the Bat Cave. Played lots of FIFA, watched the World Cup, cooked my own meals, played ping pong, drank free beer, partied and of course got my studying done too. During the week it's quiet enough the Bat Cave is large enough to give people private space and time to study without holding back the other roommates from partying. Had a few parties where people from other crash pads would come party at our place. It was the perfect balance of a cool party place where I could still go back and study and get sleep without any issues. I also really appreciated the weekly maid service and the fact they had a NINJA blender there and everything else you need for cooking so you don't have to eat at Pick Up Taco everyday (as much as we all love it). The owners are very accommodating. They addressed questions with lodging and were very knowledgable and available. I can't say I'm excited to go back to Altus but knowing I have a good spot to stay makes me feel better about it. read more

As a crusty Captain jumping over to AMC, my biggest concern was my stay in Altus. The thought of chilling in base billeting for 16 weeks solo dolo was depressing. I was fortunate to discover the Batcaves. Mike and Skylar put me up in their newest house, BC3. I wasn't sure how the dynamic of a 30's something hanging with a bunch of PIQs would work out. It turns out, awesome. For the most part, it was a very chill experience with the occasional wild Scoots night. It never got too loud or rowdy to affect the primary purpose of being here, training. While I can't speak for the other batcaves, BC3 was immaculate and Crystal came by every Wednesday to keep it that way. The house was brand new so there was the occasional hiccup, but the Bat Bros handled any pop-up issue immediately and without question. If I'm ever unfortunate enough to have to return to Altus, Mike and Skylar will be the first dudes I call! read more

The Bat Cave is the best crash pad you can stay at in Altus. I've ventured over to others, while they are all excellent, Bat Cave takes it to the next level with everything that they have for their guests. The house is absolutely stunning and has every amenity that you could imagine. Not only are the owners awesome people, but if you have any questions about how TDYs work or need advice they will map everything out for you. I had awesome roommates as a bonus that made my stay even more enjoyable. Skylar, Mike and Crystal are outstanding at what they do and definitely care about making your stay the best possible experience while on TDY there. It is truly an at home kind of experience. No stress of worrying about your living situation while on TDY ever again. I would recommend hands down and have to others multiple times. Simply put, the best place to stay in town. The owners are more than friendly, they will do everything they can to make the bat cave the best experience possible for you. They probably check their phone or emails every 5 minutes because it's never taken more than 15 min to get a response back from them. Plus they send sweet swag just cause they're awesome and they feel like it. Free t shirts ? Heck yea. Free Omaha steaks? Won't see me complaining. The maid service is also killer. Crystal is a sweet sweet goddess sent from the heavens. Finally. There's a lot of crash pads in Altus, but no where else will you find better bros than in the cave. Every second here was an adventure and an absolute blast. I will definitely be hitting up the caves again when I'm back in Altus, no doubt about it. read more
