Had a random date night on a Tuesday and decided to head to downtown Sanford where we were luck to find The Basin inside of Henry's Depot. The servers greeted us as soon as we walked up to the bar and offered some suggestions. Seems simple enough to add some raspberry vodka to an espresso martini, but needs the right balance that they achieved. My husband was a fan of the build your own Old Fashion. Disappointing Experience Due to Rude Bartender I was really excited to visit Sanford with a girlfriend of mine to celebrate a new job opportunity. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We loved the setup, the vibe, and the overall space--it felt like the perfect spot to enjoy a great evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As someone with over 6,000 followers on social media, I enjoy sharing cool experiences and places, and this one started off feeling like a hidden gem. Unfortunately, things took a turn when we went to order another drink at the bar. I noticed a display of toothpicks with little mustaches on them--cute and quirky, perfect for a photo or shout-out. I picked one up, thinking it was part of the décor or a fun garnish. Without any warning or polite correction, the bartender, Megan, abruptly walked up, snatched it from my hand, rolled her eyes, and said, "Don't touch my things," before throwing it in the trash. The male bartender nearby looked stunned and didn't even know how to respond. Before we could shake off the shock, Megan returned and began verbally attacking me and my friend. She belittled us over a harmless mustache toothpick and acted completely unprofessional. I've never been treated with such blatant disrespect, especially while being a paying customer trying to support a local business. The space has potential, but management seriously needs to reconsider who they put behind the bar. I would've loved to promote this place online, but due to this awful interaction, I can't recommend it. Great atmosphere--terrible service from a bartender who clearly needs a reality check. I love Henry's Depot and this place always looked cool so I came with a friend for happy hour. The service was okay. I like the lounge setup and the bar area here. We ordered a few drinks and nothing was really great. We both had drinks that were better elsewhere. My friend didn't even finish their cosmopolitan, it wasn't good. This is my favorite place in Sanford for cocktails. It's located in the back of Henry's Depot after the food stalls. The seasonal drinks are always delicious and the service is great. There is a large offering of whiskeys, tequila, rum, vodka and gin. They also have a good variety of beer on draught and canned. The large patio outside is great for larger groups and the sofa seating inside is usually in high demand. The Henry's Depot location has the best parking in Sanford. Was unable to have a conversation without yelling. Their menu isn't too complex with all the classics and alot of original drinks that look delicious. The drink I ordered was well concocted. I considered ordering a second cocktail, but by the time the bartender got back to me I decided to just ask for the tab. It was slightly busy so I guess I should have expected it. Overall, it was a good experience. Service was a little slow, but not a reason to not try this place. Also, a lot of people tend to come over and snag high top tables, and order a drink while they wait for their food order to be ready. If you're going to Sin in Sanford, the Basin has "Sin" right in the name, so start off here. You can get a good food base from any of the food vendors at Henry's Depot (with lots of vegan options, I might add). The beer selection is OK and surely there's something you'll like. I have yet to order a cocktail from here and may just have to do so on my next visit. If you enter Henry's Depot from the rear parking lot/deck area, you'll walk right into The Basin. If you enter from the front, you'll be able to peruse the food vendors as you make your way towards the back. They have live entertainment on occasion and you can watch the promos on one of the TVs along with Food Porn right from the vendors in the food hall portion. I've seen that sandwich with the fresh mozzarella from the sub place too many times now. I wish they had table service as it's always a pain to go back to the bar to order another beer. Maybe it's because we're usually there in the afternoon. The bartending staff is always friendly so that's a plus. It's not like Sanford needed another bar, but this one serves the food hall well. We usually grab a beer here when we're eating pizza and other find cuisine from Dharma's or one of the other vendors. We will surely be back. read more

The Basin is a craft cocktail bar located inside Henry's Depot in Sanford, and it's definitely my favorite part of this co-op/food hall. The food has been hit or miss for me, but the drinks from The Basin bar are always solid and pretty fair priced. They have cozy sofas and lounge seating, and I'm actually kinda digging the upscale Florida swamp/gator/mermaid vibes they have going on lol. Their cocktail list is pretty extensive from signature creations to the classics. Last time I went, I ordered the French 75 with Empress Gin which makes it that pretty purple color. It was citrusy and refreshing -- just what I was in the mood for. The hubs got The Monroe signature cocktail (Elijah Craig, pineapple ginger jam, lemon juice, orange & lavender) which he enjoyed very much. The bar gets pretty busy in the evenings, so it may be hard to snag a cozy lounge spot, but they also have ample outdoor seating as well. If you're into mules or old fashioneds, this spot is your jam. They have 6 different options of each. Thinking I'll go for the Mezcal old fashioned next time around. There's a lot of beer in Sanford, so a nice cocktail spot like this was very much needed! read more

I loved that drink so much that a week later I brought my husband and he got the Strawberry honeysuckle and I ordered the palmetto again. He liked the strawberry honeysuckle but loved the Palmetto. We wanted to find a place to enjoy some cocktails before wrapping up the holiday weekend and decided to give them a try. The bar is inside Home Depot, where there are other vendors in historic downtown Sanford. I asked one of the bartenders how did it work, since we sat and they were not coming to take our order. It seems that you sit and order your drinks in the bar area to take back with you. That worked but I wished they would've cleaned where we sat, but we took care of it. Maybe we came at an off time, but the bartenders were not very attentive and the drinks were hit and miss. Also, we realized we were there during happy hour (at the end) and none of the bartenders mentioned it. First round of drinks were tasty and we did like them. We ordered the Aperol Spritz, Negroni, Classic Old Fashioned and Spicy Blue (a bit too spicy and sweet). Second round they ran out of Aperol and the Negronis were a bit strong. Since it wasn't too busy, we enjoyed ourselves and had our cocktails, which is why we stopped by. We will stop by again if we are in the area, since it is one of the nicest bars around. read more

A few misgivings not worth mentioning and interesting enough to return again sometime soon. You order at the bar; we didn't see table service but they were super friendly sans the "happening". Lol Basically, some group organizer booted all the seated customers, except us, out of their tables and reserved them for his group. Obviously this didn't go well with the ones who were booted and one of them even became visibly angry and nearly worked himself up into a frenzy over it. Not cool. Lately, I've been really into cocktail bars. Who doesn't like a nice well crafted cocktail? I think this place is fabulous. I especially like the cool hand cuke- Bourbon, mint, cucumber, and lime. I don't go to Sanford very often (I live very far) but I would go back to this bar for that drink. It's refreshing and not too sweet. I like the decor of the bar. For some reason, it reminds me of some 1940s social club. I do think that it's convenient that you can order off the menu from any of the food places in Henry's Depot. We ordered the classic Italian sandwich from Salvatore's-delicious! But that's another review. Btw, they'll bring your order right to you. I am glad that a place like Henry's Depot opened in Sanford. It reminds me a lot of Plant Street market in Winter Garden. But anyways The Basin is a really nice addition to this food hall. 4 stars. read more

The Basin sits at the far end of Henry's Depot with a large bar, several high top tables, and a relaxed seating area along the wall with sofas and armchairs. There is even a large outdoor seating area making for a great hangout space while you enjoy some beers or cocktails. They offer a large cocktail menu and several beers on tap, including some locals like Central 28. The bartenders have always been friendly and fast on each of my visits. The cocktail menu on this last visit was sticky and gross, so definitely not sanitized. I was tempted to knock another star off for lack of mask enforcement, but I don't expect the bartenders to stop everyone coming in the door so this is probably more on the Depot as a whole, and not the Basin specifically. read more

Its located inside Henry's depot. At the very end of the hallway, with couches, darts and a golfing arcade game. They have an outdoor patio in the front and back of Henry's depot for you to enjoy the fresh air with your beverage. I ordered 1 drink and relaxed outside for the fresh air. There's maybe 5 beers on tap, but there was 1 local beer from Central 28, which as nice. Im surprised they didn't have any beers from the many breweries located in downtown Sanford. read more

We were exploring downtown Sanford and came across Henry's Depot. There was a banner showing the bar was open. We weren't sure what the spot was and decided to check it out. Upon entering, it's a cool concept. There are restaurants in the building that will be opening soon (see my Henry's Depot review.) We walked to the back and met Sean at The Basin. He was very kind and let us know we could order a drink even though they are still getting the establishment up and running. We opted to try one of the beers on tap. I chose a mango wheat beer and my boyfriend chose a toasted lager. Both of the beers were good and we went outside to the patio to enjoy them since it was a nice day. Even though we were the only patrons, Sean turned music on which was appreciated and added to the experience. We appreciated the great customer service and opportunity to try this spot out as they are getting fully opened and look forward to returning! read more

While we like hanging out at Henry's and grabbing food, and sitting outside - the bar at this food hall is not the best. When a bar is just average, it is usually because of the staff. The beer list was pretty standard, and there is more emphasis on flavored moscow mules. The service is just not that good usually, considering there are typically 3 bartenders and 10 customers. I have waited awhile to even place a drink order. This guy forgot my order within 2 minutes of starting it - good thing I remembered what I ordered. A few minutes later, he was trying to give my drinks to someone else. Spaced out, for sure. There's usually no smiling, just a put your head down and act busy crew. There's nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't that busy and no one seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bus boys cleaning up the deck/patio area are always working hard and actually have some personality, so that's a positive. Maybe they should be the bartenders? Kinda pricey for the location and what you get. They'll do fine as the anchor of a food hall with 4-5 interesting food spots, but on their own I think most would go elsewhere. The service is quick and friendly - definitely gives you that local spot vibe. We ordered two old fashions - one a classic and one called the heart of agave. Both were delicious and undiluted (the way a proper old fashioned should be!) The "agave" version was subtly sweet with a light smoky finish - exceptionally balanced. I brought a friend of mine in. We walked through the restaurant area everyone had on masks. Our intention was to order a few drinks and then get a bite to eat at one of the venues. However when we got to the bar some of the bartenders didn't have masks at all! All others had their masks down around their chins. During a pandemic I would prefer, as well as my friend that my drink isn't full of Covid-19 droplets. Not only did we not spend any money in that bar we didn't spend any money in any of the restaurants in the food court. So due to the carelessness of the bar staff no one got any money from us. I just moved here from Philadelphia, I was exploring downtown Sanford and entered the basin. I let the bartender know I was new to the area and what I liked. She made so many cocktails keeping eye contact with me and gave me ideas of places to go to. I just want to say, you never know who you are taking care of. I was trained and worked next to who was nominated the best bartender in Philly and have been a craft bartender for ten years. I'm not a cocktail snob but I do know the differences between art and slacking. I asked her if she made old fashion's traditional she said yes, I ordered one a little lost because my favorite bourbon is not carried there. It was the best old fashioned I have ever had. Sad to say this place is served by angry people. Went there for a drink we were standing near the service area and ordered a drinK. Staff became aggressive and told us to move we move outside of the area and they continued to berate us telling us we had to leave, astounded, we said we were not intruding on the area and would move they became aggressive and the entire staff got involved with belligerent.
