An owner with zero understanding of service, who thinks an hour between courses when we were the only customers is acceptable, no apologies offered. I enjoy writing reviews and having written thousands over various platforms, I use them to highlight excellence and areas seemingly needing improvement. I rarely write poor reviews, as I usually research venues to not waste my money. This venue was over the road from a nice restaurant we visited so came a couple of weeks later. On arrival, a totally empty dated stereotypically venue should have warned me! Staff were down the far end and generally disinterested in anything but chatting together. Starter was an unexciting octopus dish. Mains arrived nearly an hour later and were passable only fish. We couldn't have dessert as we only paid for three hours parking and couldn't risk a parking ticket! Writing a review is a record of a personal experience, if it's positive, I almost always go to speak to chef, be it three Michelin starred or a cafe. If the review is to be critical, I don't say anything on the day as I can't be certain of responses. I was well advised on this occasion to simply give the owner a throwaway line, as his sociopathic personal attacks in his responses are indicative of the wiseness of my decision on the day! He importuned my value to society and my credibility, rather than comment at the time or in his vitriolic past responses, on the manifest failings on the day! He shows a poster on his website and in the venue, created by an advertising based website making unsustainable and frankly laughable claims of this venue being in the top 10% of restaurants worldwide! As an aside, apparently I am banned from future visits, I assure him that I am not a masochist thus there is absolutely NO chance of a future visit, why waste my money? Ps multiple later experiences at lots of far better venues, owner could learn a lot from them. Sadly the review responses by the venue show the owner's first language isn't English and may explain his inability to understand the nuances.

Every time I have been around the High Street, I've seen Kelsey House and kept thinking that I should check it out... and we did! We had time to kill before seeing a movie, so we walked down to Kelsey House. It's easy to find because it is on the corner. I would suggest walking, if you can because the parking on the street is usually occupied, but the nearest car park is about a 5 minute walk up the High Street. They do have outdoor seating and while it is facing a busy High Street, it is better now because the pavement has been extended, putting a bit more space between the tables and traffic. We chose to sit inside because it was quite a warm day. Inside is very hipster... from the decor to the staff, but it is proving very popular! Based on the number of families inside, I would say that this is a child-friendly place. The menu seems to be focused on 'street food'... and brunch. There are a few salads on the menu, but think small plates, burgers, and sandwiches. If you are a fan of gin, they have a nice list of gins, along with a number of craft beers. Because I didn't want to end up asleep during the film, I went with one of their non-alcoholic cocktails... the Virgin French Martini. It was delicious and I didn't miss the alcohol at all! I just wish it came in a bigger glass ;) I struggled because I wanted to try out some of the small plates, but really had my eye on one of the sandwiches. I ended up ordering the Volcano Sandwich while Mr. Snarky went with the Full House Burger. The sandwiches/burgers looked really good, but they were definitely messy. The buns were lovely and managed to stay together despite all the meat juices they were soaking in. I was worried my sandwich would be a bit too spicy, but I found the spice just right... and the meat was so tender! I was surprised that the slaw was actually on the side rather than in the sandwich... which is where I thought it would be. Mr. Snarky said he also enjoyed his burger... except for the burger. To be fair, I am never really sure why Pulled Pork and/or Brisket has to be ruined by using it as a condiment to put on top of a beef burger. And I think that was the issue, the burger didn't really need to be there and it kind of took away from the rest of the sandwich. We really enjoyed the fries... they said skinny fries and I was worried they would be like shoestrings, but they were a decent size and it was like they twice/triple cooked them because they were quite crispy on the outside. We agreed that they were really good! By the end of it, we didn't have room for dessert. Service is friendly, but a bit on the slow side. The prices... I find a bit mixed. On some items I think they are reasonable, but on other items I think they are a bit pricey... like a hot dog for £10.50. I love a good hot dog, but £10.50... and that's the basic hot dog. It is a lovely place and I'm sure we'll be back again.

The highlight is almost certainly the meatballs, which come as 10, 15 or 20 beefspheres. Beware, 20 can be challenging for those not strong of stomach. Basil has long been a regular lunchtime expedition at my place of work and I don't doubt it will continue to be for a long time. The steaks are half price apparently all the time and, while mine was slightly more cooked than I expected for medium rare, it was a good piece of meat. The pub was really busy... we had trouble getting in through the entrance as there were a lot of people having Christmas drinky poos. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get a table, but they had a couple, so we lucked out! The menu is seasonal, so what we had may not be on there, but I certainly hope they consider offering the dish I had again. I ordered the seabass with mussels and prawns with a white wine sauce and couscous. Mr. Snarky had one of their specials, the Lamb and Carrot pie. It was quite loud in the place, but it definitely feels cozy... like a place only the locals go to! My dish was really lovely, although the only complaint was that the lovely sauce was only around the side of the plate, so some of the mussels had it, but the fish could have used some of the sauce. The sauce was beautiful! And Mr. Snarky's only complaint was that the pie wasn't a full pie... it was a ramekin of filling with pastry on top. Forget the campaign for real ale, we need the campaign for real pie! We did indulge in dessert... and we were so predictable. Me with the Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream and Mr. Snarky with the cheesecake. Although he did ask if the crumble came with custard and because it did not, he chose the cheesecake. Albeit, I'm only 33 and my husband and usually feel like we're amongst the youngest of the crowd, but it's worth the trade-off when compared to most of Bromley's other drinking establishments. The building itself is a former bank, and the owners of The Partridge have turned it into a very attractive place for a drink and a meal if so desired. While the food is slightly pricier than your average Wetherspoons, it's worth the extra couple of pounds for decent grub. The beer garden could stand to be a bit bigger as tables get filled quickly in the summer. That said, if you want a place to go in Bromley for a relaxing drink, decent music played at not too high a volume and without the fear of being beaten up by local yobs, The Partridge is your best bet.

We were here for the breakfast and three of us ordered off the menu, and two of us just had to be fussy and order various items individually. They catered to every wish! The coffee was fantastic and they even had skimmed milk (YEY!) I had the English breakfast with poached eggs, and apart from some hollandaise sauce that appeared on my eggs (I don't like hollandaise sauce!) it was all very yummy. The mushrooms were cooked with rosemary and the cumberland sausage was delicious. I was not keen on the bacon, but that's probably because it was smoked and I'm not a fan of food tasting like sweet smoke. My fellow breakfastarians between them tried the Eggs Special Royal (to celebrate our new princess!) which was apparently delicious, but came with cold avocado under the egg, which made the temperature of the whole dish a little odd. The waiter asked me what spice I'd like and as a bit of a wimp, I opted for a 3 out of 10 and it was absolutely perfect - garnished with green olives, celery, a lemon wedge and a sprinkle of pepper. I enquired as to a nearby plug and the waiter found me one behind an armchair and plugged my charger in for me as well - very kind! It was so huge that Marc lets me try some...I have to admit the maple butter toast was the highlight for me, but the sausage was gorgeous too.) - My friend tried the beans on toast (they looked amaaazing) - I tried duck on rosti with perfect poached eggs. After departing the overground at Peckham Rye and being thrust into an absolutely cacophony of sound, sights and people on Rye Road -- I had no idea where this little Pedler gem might be hiding. Is it in this fish market? What about piled up behind these bushels of yuca? Are those pigs hooves? Chicken heads? Ears of some unknown animal? Honestly, if you want to feel transported to another world, pop off the train at Peckham and go for a nosy. Regardless we finally found our way to Pedlar to meet some dear friends. They'd just had a new baby, we had our toddler in tow and we were all excited to catch up and enjoy a meal together. Until I saw Pedlar and its quaint and tiny little space jammed to the gills on a Sunday afternoon. "Oh no" I thought, we are going to have to go eat somewhere else. There is NO way we are getting in here with these babies without crushing someone, them, or being shamed on to the street by hipsters. (I like hipsters by the way, so this is not meant to be offensive, I probably shamed a parent or too in my youth as well!). But I shan't have worried! We DID have a booking (kudos to our friend) and the day was saved. The buggies did need to be broken down and stored downstairs -- which would have been fine had I not timed this entire operation perfectly down to the minute to have mine sleeping through brunch -- only to be awoken upon the breakdown process. Sigh, so Peppa Pig and the Pedlar, that's how he did his brunch (don't judge me! I needed this!). Anyway, tl:dr the guys were really accommodating despite not being terribly child-friendly, and I really appreciated that immensely. We then took up the beautiful booth with plenty of room for everyone, ordered a round of cocktails (the Bloody Mary and Gin &Tonic were gorgeous ways to start), a smattering of Sunday roasts and pickles and were on our merry way to an absolutely excellent meal. Beef, lamb, puddings, cocktails, more wine, it was all on point and truly enjoyable. The place was stuffed each and every moment we were there, but we were never rushed and thus kept ordering and enjoying and finally once Peppa was no longer able to hold my son's attention we departed full and happy and full of Sunday sweetness. I won't be taking my child back here for my own sake of enjoyment, but I'd love to come back with friends or on a date.
