I've been connected to Othello since 1966, and Desert Rose has always held a special place in my…read moreheart. Under Renee Para's ownership, and later with Melody, the florist consistently delivered beautiful, heartfelt arrangements. For many years, I was a loyal and happy customer. However, a recent experience left me disappointed. I called to place an order for a small, cheerful bouquet as a pick-me-up for someone special. I was informed that $35 is the minimum for delivery with a $10 delivery fee, which was completely fine. I requested a bright and light arrangement with a yellow ribbon, and was told that a photo of the bouquet would be emailed to me. Unfortunately, the only photo I received came from the recipient, not the florist. The bouquet appeared muted and not at all what I had envisioned--it featured a pink ribbon instead of the yellow I requested, and overall lacked the brightness I had hoped for. I reached out to the owner via email to kindly express my disappointment, not to place blame, but simply to share feedback in hopes of helping improve future service. To my surprise, the response I received was not only defensive but included a decision to no longer serve me as a customer--without any discussion with the sales associate I had originally spoken with. I was also told I "complain all the time," which was especially hurtful and untrue. My intent was never to criticize harshly, but to express genuine concern based on an isolated experience after many years of support and satisfaction. I've always believed in uplifting small businesses and have frequently praised this shop for its charm and quality. It saddens me that my attempt at honest feedback led to such an abrupt end to what had been a long-standing customer relationship. Desert Rose remains a lovely store, and I hope others continue to have positive experiences. I only wish my concern had been met with a little more understanding and openness to dialogue. Driving on highway road 26, our vehicle runs out of electricity and our car dies (we don't put in gas because we believe in saving our environment because we CARE ABOUT OUR PLANET). My wife Priscilla begins to weep uncontrollably, "how will we ever get back home to watch our favorite Netflix show on our Apple TV with our vegan cats?!??" Needless to say we ate the last of our edible t-shirts (proud to say they are antibiotic free). But our thirst! We were lost, stranded, and our iPhone 6S's had no network connection (thanks Steve Jobs, ugh). We began to make way until my wife Priscilla yelped, "Washtucna!!" After sniffing and wiping my nose, I replied, "Gesundheit". Little did we realize that Washtucna is literally a town in the middle of nowhere Washington. But the odd thing was...no person was there. Not a single human being was around in plain sight. We caught an odd whiff of cow pies (which we use to fertilize our GMO FREE garden), but proceeded down the empty street. We saw many abandoned buildings, RVs purchased from R & R RV, and some rural homes with yellow flags with snakes on them (uhhh YUCK!) that said "Don't tread on me". We then saw a promising establishment appear out of the corner of our eye. Was it a mirage!? Java Bloom?! Coffee?! The holy bean!! I jumped off of Priscilla's back as we gracefully made our way into the building. Again, an ominous silence encapsulated the room. Until, out of nowhere "MOOOOOOOOO!" A 450 lb cow appeared behind the counter. I ordered a double latte with soy milk, but the cow seemed distraught. I begrudgingly ordered a 2% with a little hesitation, and then a cow two percent smaller than the first came over and sprayed her milk into my latte (rather sloppily I might add). We tried it. OH MY GOD. PRISCILLA YOURE ADOPTED. It was out of this world! Holy cow, Best latte in Washtucna, by far. The next time i meander the fields as I trip on a three day LSD binge, I will be sure to revisit Java Bloom. Thanks Bessie and Catherine! Be sure to try the Mocha, it's udderly to die for.

My past experiences not being great with 'form submission pages' on websites, I was surprised to hear back from her within the hour. I've had experiences that range from awful to simply no-response when filling these kind of things out, so it was unbelievable to receive such a prompt and thorough response back. Sue confirmed a couple details and got an invoice to me ASAP, so I could look over the order before I paid. Once confirmed, her online system was super easy to fill-out and tender the transaction. The service was impeccable- especially when so often online transactions can go awry. The price? SUPER reasonable for the delivery included and for the finished product (but we'll get to that in a minute...I digress), price was well in-line with florists in the area and even some of the national chains that contract out. More importantly: the bouquet itself was amazing. Simply amazing. A friend just texted me a picture of it from the service, and after taking a sigh of relief, the visual immediately prompted me to write this review. In our situation (and like so many others in a schedule conflict with a funeral service), the bouquet we send becomes an extension of our thoughts & prayers and a representation of us in spirit. Sue did an uncanny job of sensing that; being empathetic to our needs, and even an earlier delivery time didn't seem to faze her. The request was so last minute, to a florist who seems to specialize in beautiful wedding flowers, with a request within a budget AND an earlier delivery, and Sue and her staff responded with an amazing sense of empathy, service and attention to detail. I can't sing her praises enough. We need to support these small businesses, as they are literally the pulse of our communities. Thank you again, Sue. We appreciate this experience so much.
