Awful and frightening experience…read more I had a very disturbing experience at Hounds Town that I feel obligated to share. On two separate occasions, my dog was harmed after being left in their care. The first incident involved my dog contracting kennel cough, which required a vet visit and antibiotics. I notified Hounds Town, and while they offered a couple of free days to make up for it, there was no real accountability or reassurance beyond that. After debating whether to return, I gave them another chance -- and deeply regret it. About an hour after dropping my dog off, I received a voicemail stating that my dog had been attacked. No emergency contacts were called, my workplace was not contacted, and my veterinarian was never called. When I arrived to pick him up, my dog was still bleeding, which makes me believe he had been left alone rather than receiving immediate care. I had to take him back to the vet again. When you trust a business with your pet, you expect safety, supervision, and immediate action in an emergency. That did not happen here. The lack of urgency, communication, and basic emergency protocol is extremely concerning. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this place to anyone who values their dog's safety.

That is not something I would want in a trainer. I would actually want someone to take the time and to work with my dog on their individual needs and not just think of it as a whole. Not every dog is the same. Not every dog learns the same. It's unacceptable to put the dog through what she did just to get it out of its crate. And if your facility is not able to allow a dog to decompress in its crate right after being picked up, then you need to reevaluate your space. There's never a situation that you should be dumping a dog that is already fearful of its surroundings.

I had a family member bring him to the vet on a Friday and I called in to ask Dr Ross questions. I was informed we would have to bring him back for a urinalysis where they would give him Gabapentin and put a needle into his bladder to extract the urine. I also was required to get a fecal sample. That Monday, the tech said his bloodwork was clean. I advised I would call Tuesday and set up the urinalysis. I called 5 times and left a voice mail each time. I will give them benefit of the doubt that their phones were not working since everything they said to me after seems to be false. I called on Wednesday and was told to bring his litter box for the urinalysis and a water bowl. I quickly corrected her and she said she misunderstood what a urinalysis was. It's basic vet terminology. Thursday rolls around and I go to drop him off. I walk in and let the receptionist (Natalie I think?) know I'm dropping off my cat off for his urinalysis and I had a fecal sample but was unsure of what time Tuesday/Wednesday (I got home late Tuesday so I didn't have a chance to collect anything) he dropped it in the litter box. She looked at me like I offended her and told me what I have isn't good enough and I need to do it again and I need to wait for a tech. I politely ask how long since I had to rush to work and she snapped at me saying she had no idea. 20 minutes later Jamie? Walked In and I advised that since they have my cat they could try and get the fecal sample since the receptionist said it wasn't good enough. She said they would try and I said if you need to keep him longer to do that it's okay. 4-5 hours go by and I hadn't heard any update. The person I spoke with made it seem like he had been ready for a while so I let my family member know that he could go pick up my cat. They require us to give him Gabapentin before his next appointment since he was agitated during the urinalysis. They didn't even give him Gabapentin for the procedure! I asked them about it when they called with the results they weren't sure at first why but come to find out he was "already stressed"and they "didn't want to try and give him something to calm him". I asked realistically if a vet can't administer a medication how do you expect the owners to and they gave half a$$ excuses. I go to pick up the prescription for urinary and when I asked why it said stressed on the prescription they tried to explain that he has crystals because he is stressed. Dr Ross came out and told me she wrote the right prescription and that she knows what she is doing. She may think she knows what she's doing but she does not know anything about compassion and customer care. On my way out I saw a sticker they had that said "Toxic vibes will be force fed" I guess they really took that to heart. Also, my family member asked Dr Ross a question regarding our dog's allergy shot and she flat out ignored him!! They were the only two humans in the room. The next Monday, they texted me his fecal came back good. I called around 2pm and left a voice mail. They continued to text me and I asked for someone to please call me. No one called. I go in as they are finishing a meeting (after 5pm) to get his results and asked if their phones are broke again. They said they were in a meeting and I asked if that meeting started at 2 when I called. They didn't seem concerned with the fact they had a customer, who has received poor service for days, saying they have issues with communication and showed where I called at 2pm. They brushed me off again! At that point, it clicked and I told them that they don't fucking care. That Tuesday, I received my file and a termination of service. I found several things that were inaccurate or not even addressed with me. I promptly took him to another vet who said that he DIDN'T HAVE CRYSTALS! They especially said he didn't need to be on any prescription diet. This vet office has gone downhill since the previous vet retired and they only care about money!

The last straw came down today when I went to pick my dogs up and she had both my 40-pound Australian Shepard and my 15-pound Shih Tzu crammed into one cage together so small that they were on top of each other and could not move. This is not the first time that my dogs have been mishandled at this shop. My Australian Shepard has been repeatedly burned with the razor on his underside. The last time it happened it became infected, and I had to take him to the vet for antibiotics. Adding to the frustration, the owner is the most unfriendly person I have met in a long time. I cannot recall a single instance where she even said hello or smiled. What is even more disheartening is that she never once said thank you. When you drop your dogs off the only thing she says to you is "Same as usual?" This phrase suggests that there is at least some consistency with her service - but that couldn't be further from the truth. I have lost count of the number of times that she completely shaved off my Shih Tzu's mustache, and when I bring it to her attention, she doesn't even bother to apologize. Reading through her other reviews on Google I suspect that most of the reviews for this shop are from friends. I noticed one was actually from her daughter, who also works there. I would be leery if you rely on reviews to try this one out. Having entrusted eight dogs to different groomers over the past 25 years, I strongly recommend exploring other options. Find one that you can communicate with and that doesn't get mad at you for telling them how you want your dog groomed.

They were very accommodating and let me come by immediately for a meet and greet. Paul and Katie were very friendly and reassuring. My dogs took to them and had a blast during the short encounter. So, I boarded my dogs with them for a night the next day. Some things I'd like to highlight is that they have a spacious fenced in yard and a doggie door so the dogs can come and go as they please. My little brats could learn how to be dogs in a pack. Food is included and provided. They provide high quality grain free food that my dogs love and they leave it out so the dogs can graze. This is good if your dog eats when it's hungry. However, my dogs, being puggles, ate non-stop and Paul and Katie had to put the food up. They just fed my dogs like pigeons throughout the day instead. This is something you might want to consider if your dog has special dietary needs and will eat everything in sight. But apart from one of my dogs overeating till his all you can eat buffet was thwarted, all is good. Oh Katie is a nurse and she's able to put eye drops or whatever your dog needs. My dogs are fine, but it's something you might want to consider when picking a boarding place for your dogs. Best part about Just Like Home is that the dogs can go on the furniture and sleep with humans. My dogs lay on Paul and Katie and watched tv and slept with Paul at night. (Sorry, Paul, I know my dogs are walking heat packs.) I'm relieved that my dogs can get the human contact and attention that they crave. I don't have to feel bad that they are crying in a suite at some other boarding place. When I went to pick the dogs up, one of them came up to greet me, then ran back off to play with his friends. He didn't want to leave. The other one is a total momma's boy, so he stayed by me while we tried let the first one know that it was time to go home. Also, the rates here are very reasonable. I'll definitely take my dogs there again if I need to board them while I'm in Jacksonville.
