In search of a new food-and-beverage event for a new experience, I discovered the Los Angeles Wine & Food Festival at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA, and immediately purchased two VIP tickets for the Saturday Bite Club. The event was from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and using my better judgment, we took an Uber to and from the location. Arriving about a half hour before the doors opened, the line was quite long for the VIP entry, but once the doors opened, we entered in a matter of five minutes, and the festivities began. The vibe was Pop Culture with patrons of all flavors, and everyone was sporting their personal fashion statement and personality. The place was filled with the non-stop grooves played by the resident DJ, and everyone grooved to the beats as they savored the numerous delicious chef-created bites and chased them with the various whiskeys, tequila shots, cocktails, and brews available for consumption. I went to the Eaaat event at this hangar and it was outstanding They had a few vendors and bar areas. The restrooms were nice and clean and all the personnel working the event were cool. The only thing I did not like they had run out of food early and they only had 25 good vendors. I felt they needed more vendors for a variety of food. Some good items were just ok and some were good. Easy parking and you had a nice breeze. Very clean place to have an event. read more

I went to the Barker Hangar this past weekend for Gymshark's LIFT:LA event and had a blast! I was a little nervous beforehand as I had read online that this venue didn't have parking, but that's not what we experienced at all. For this specific event, there were signs leading to parking next to a park about a block away. The parking lot was spacious, easy to find, and not too far of a walk away. The space itself is stunning. The Gymshark crew took advantage of every area of the hangar. To give you an idea of it's size, inside there were two different store set ups, a photo area, two large meet & greet locations for the Gymshark athletes, a roped off stage area with room for seats/workout mats. Gymshark also used the area behind the hangar for food trucks, two more workout spaces, and vendors like Alani energy, Plunge ice baths, Ghost protein, and more. The outdoor space was especially neat as you could see planes landing and taking off all day from the Santa Monica airport! I was completely impressed by the Barker Hangar and I look forward to attending another event there in the future! read more

My friend who's a fan of Melissa Villaseñor recommended that we attend The Other Art Fair, held at this venue. We were able to park for free in the school parking lots since it was a Saturday. We got a free drink voucher with our ticket. There were a handful of food trucks outside and clean trailer bathrooms. Although it got stuffy on a hot day, the venue was nice and we really enjoyed the various art exhibits and speaking with the artists. read more

Very great art show! The Other Art Fair is an annual L.A event that takes place in the The Barker Hangar event venue in Santa Monica. I always end up getting free tickets, so I always end up going. Today was my second time! 2019 and 2021, since it didn't happen last year due to the pandemic. I loved it! I came by myself, so I spent more time looking at alll the artwork and actually purchasing a few pieces. Event: Adidas clearance sale The venue is very nice because it has a lot of space and a lot of parking. The hangar is a perfect size for the adidas sale. The exits and entrances were not too crowded. Parking for this event was very good. I was able to park fairly close to the hangar. One thing I noticed tho is that it is a little old and dusty. I have been to The Barker Hanger for a few fitness events: a Tone It Up event as well as Propel Co:Labs Fitness Festival. I love how easy and convenient the parking is. There is also a drop off area for Uber and Lyft, making it very accessible to the events. And if you don't want to park in their lot, I saw that other people found some free street parking just a short walk away. The space is large and very open for whatever it may be used for. When I have gone I saw them use both the indoor and outdoor space. The indoor space has plenty of room to accomadate lots of people. How awesome it was to be able to workout in the hangar.They had a stage set, screens to view the workout happening on stage, and lots of space to get your workout on. The outdoor space was used really well as well. So much space to set up different types of workout stations, equipment, and food trucks. For the Propel Fitness event I recently attended they had portable bathroom trucks set up. Clean and spacious, with about 4 or so bathroom stalls, and stocked with everything you need (hair ties, dry shampoo, cleaning spray, sunblock etc). IIt's pretty awesome that while walking the space you can see plenty of planes. I can't wait to come back here for another event, and see how they use the space! read more

Great venue for fabulous events and parties. I have been here for countless occasions. I'm always in awe at how the extraordinary event planners are able to magically transform this incredibly large space nearly anything the mind can imagine. I have had the fortune of attending events here that include anything from seeing the space as a museum gallery to a fancy food and wine tasting pavilion to an arena used to host political rallies! It's remarkable and awe inspiring. They have ample parking, which could be on the pricier side. Take a lyft, as they have convenient drop off spots for passengers that are super close to the entrance. The restrooms often leave something to be desired as the are mere outhouses and not always the cleanest, so caveat emptor. 5 stars for the venue sans the outhouse situation! read more

I have come here for several event (Lexus Grand Tasting, Animal Planet Adward Taping, taste of night market, and BMW 100 years) this is indoor venue very close to the Santa Monica Airport. Don't park in their lot, so many free parking nearby in the park is a short walking distance. Up to 3 hours you can park there which is about the length as most event. Only thing I dislike is that they don't have its own restroom so usually only portable one available. The large event space is wide open for whatever creative whims you could whip up. There is indoor space and outdoor space. Plenty of parking, and even solar powered electric chargers nearby. I was here for EEEEEATSCON 2019 and it was a well organized event. Some event tents for speakers gave a intimate but inviting vibe. Thank you for being UNIQUE. Came to this plane hangar for UNIQUE LA-Summer edition! Love coming to these type of shows because it showcases various artists and their crafts such as jewelry, paintings, clothing, furniture, food and what not. Plus, I like support my friend's sister and her jewelry line (Honey My Heart). So many adorable finds! From cute stationary, recycled wood into furniture, poster art work, clothing and customized necklaces, rings and more! I really enjoyed the artisan bread made with natural ingredients including flowers! Yup, flower power! This was the first time I attended the summer edition and it is quite smaller than their other Unique USA events. I like it! Not that many vendors, but great place to meet new and amazing people. I loved that it was at this location because we got to see some planes fly by while eating at the food truck area. There were about 4 food trucks and all were pretty cool! I did not get to try them all, but everything smelled great! Definitely, a great place to spend money on some UNIQUE finds and socialize. If you're a fan of planes or if you just live close to Santa Monica, chances are you've been here. As for me, I was recently here for an event and this place is known to lease out the hanger for plenty of events that requires a bit of parking. You know me and parking, I don't like paying. So if you like an alternative without having to disrupt the children at the park nearby, you can park by the streets that crosses Bundy with a short 15 minute walk. Otherwise, parking is usually $10 here for most events and a bit more for valet. Attended the Los Angeles Food and Wine and it was decked out pretty well and very good use of the whole space. Bathrooms, of course are the nicer portables still. The inside is air conditioned so it actually feels quite luxurious and comfortable inside. read more

Hello Kitty and Friends conveniently barfed up cuteness and overpriced games into one auditorium (The Barker Hangar) and that's pretty much the Sanrio Carnival. Yeah yeah, Happy 50th, Sanrio. At first, walking through "obscure" pop art, shaking my head at the selection of (lame) food trucks, over-priced everything, a 30-minute line to get INSIDE the gift shop, pink Hello Kitty smart cars, and speakers blasting Spice Girls and Hanson made me want to do a quick round and leave, asap! Yeah right, I'm going to pay for someone to draw 6 lines on my face (aka whiskers). But due to severe nostalgia, flashbacks, and a trip down memory lane, it easily bumped up my experience at the carnival a couple stars: - A display case of classic and old Pochacco, Pekkle, and Keroppi school supplies. "Omg I totally had that eraser with the googly eyes!" "I had that pencil case!" ;*) - SPOTTIE DOTTIE.. Why did they discontinue and neglect this oh so cute dalmatian?! - Watching kids getting excited for characters in costume - Realizing how Sanrio characters were so prevalent in my childhood So, thank you, Sanrio for 50 years of creating awkward characters (what the hell is Badtz Maru supposed to be?!) and sprinkling some sugar and glitter to make them so darn cute and likable. read more

This is great for events, and this is more of a review for the place, rather than the events taking place here. I've been here a few times, twice for the Sanrio Small Gift Celebration, and a few times for Shopping (shecky's) :) I wished that it was closer, because it's a sizable venue for events. I have to admit, whoever did the Sanrio event had some bombass bathrooms. They were port-a-potties, but shiz, it's better than some bathrooms that I've been it. So A++ for that!! :) The event was well organized except for the parking. Why do I have to pay $10 every time I park here. It's bad enough to pay, but I have to walk, and pretty far? wth? haha :) but it's all good. read more

This review is for the Sanrio Small Gift 50th Anniversary Event. I came here in the afternoon of the very first day (11/12/10) and it was perfect! Not overcrowded at all. The wait in line for the shop was only about 20 minutes and I was able to buy everything I wanted. No line to buy tickets for the carnival games and only a few people were playing. Then onto the sand painting! This activity was probably the most worth it for being only 1 ticket ($2). My boyfriend and I spent about an hour on 1, but it came out awesome. Then the food trucks started showing up. It's usually 3 food trucks at once. Overall the first day was very fun. I planned to stay for an hour, but ended up staying for 4. The next day was the I (Heart) Nerds Party and believe it or not, I came back. I went in to buy food from the trucks before they started kicking everyone out to prep for the party and I walked right into Kimora Lee Simmons and her daughter (of course, they would be at this kind of event). My friend and I went 2 hours early to stand in line since we were unable to purchase tickets ($15) online. We were lucky because immediately after, a whole rush of people came and the line ended up wrapping around the parking lot twice. We were the first 100 out of probably 1,000 people so we got goodie bags (at least)! It was INSANITY. After waiting in line to get into the actual event, we had to wait in MORE LONG LINES for EVERY SINGLE THING (the shop, buying tickets, playing the games, crowding in the sand painting area, food trucks, and so on). The wait in line for the shop was probably 2 hours long and I noticed they had already sold out of some rare items I previously bought the day before. My friend and I just wanted to get out of there. Oh and they didn't even have the photo booth! TIPS: - Parking is $10 so it's probably better to come on a weekday when it's not so busy so you can get your money's worth. - Tickets to play the carnival games, crafts, mini golf, ferris wheel range from 1-5 tickets ($2 each). - The shop has more than what it had for the mobile pop-up shop tour so be sure to check it out (that is, if the wait in line isn't 2 hours). - If you're planning to go to the 80s Prom Party, ask yourself if you really want to pay $15 to get into the same event you could get into free the other days & do the exact same stuff for more than just 3 hours, but with smaller lines. - They have an ATM inside and they accept credit cards to purchase tickets and shop items. We attended a Mercedes Benz event here featuring Alabama Shakes and Young The Giant. Awesome venue, plentiful parking, really well organized. I'm not sure if organization of the event is dependent on the event hosts or if it's a collaboration between the event and the Barker Hanger but everything was flawless and amazing. The lines to enter moved quickly, the restrooms outside were clean, the security guards were big and burly but nice and very elegantly attired. I felt like I was surrounded by Beyonce's bodyguards. Considering that there was an open bar, serving free drinks, nothing riotous happened. There was one incident during the concert when a overly drugged and intoxicated girl was flailing her limp self into a concerned crowd, the body guard scooped her up and set her aside with some water to make sure she was ok. Classy affair all around but one could expect nothing less from Mercedes Benz. If this is how the Barker Hanger always operates call me a fan of this super cool venue. read more

Very cool venue! I came with a friend to see the Other Art Fair recently and was pleasantly surprised how well the space was organized and divided. They created a good balance of design and spatial proportion so that you feel the grandiose height of the structure but not overpowered to feel uncomfortable. It was also very well lit and with the open side of the hanger there is good air circulation. I'd definitely come back :) read more

Great Day Today! What a cool place to have an event. Lots of parking and very friendly staff. There were two areas for food - 1 inside the hangar and one outside (not super VIP). Music (a DJ Mix) playing throughout. Inside there were booths for shopping and outside lots of fun activities and more food and drinks. Today's event was Super Saturday LA to benefit Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Lots of celebs and plenty of fun. Did a bit of shopping myself - it's for charity after all. A couple pair of shoes, a purse, a scarf, a dress... We didn't bring the pups this time, but next time for sure. Great dog friendly place. read more

I came here for a BMW event called the next 100 years. It was a BMW event of the future and this place was the perfect place to host such an awesome event! I loved how they had free parking across the building and there was so much room in the back to take out the cars for a test drive. I took the i8 for an awesome drive! Having a boxing event here was the best thing!! It def. feels like back in the days where you have boxing events without the super duper messy crowd!! Intimate enough to enjoy your peers and close enough to view the fight.. There is no food there. so most events will have a food truck area. Parking is tight but abundant.. $20 for parking was excessive if you ask me, but hey you don't have a choice or have to walk so far. Enjoyed attending the boxing event here and def. will be back! read more

OK, so I went here for the Sanrio 50th Anniversary bash (preview night) - and I have to say...it was an AWESOME location for it. There was room to walk and breathe. I even saw Erik Estrada (he was a bit creepy), the kid Luke from Modern Family and Kimora Lee. Inside the hanger was a Sanrio themed Ferris wheel, Miniature Golf, vendors - food, art, etc and they even had food trucks outside. I'm not quite sure what other events go on the Barker Hanger - maybe Brangelina parks their private jet in this hanger? ...well I'm hoping that Sanrio will come back for their 51st Anniversary bash. ; ) read more

Barney's warehouse sale... If it wasn't for the ridiculously adorable $600 pair of shoes I snagged for $80, this would have been a total bust. Don't get me wrong, the Manolo's were a killer find, but outside of the shoe selection, pickins were slim. Men seem to leave this sale with a ton of discounted duds, but women walk out wondering where it all went wrong. There's no dressing rooms. Prepare to strip in front of loitering, skeezy husbands. Or, wear a unitard like the militant housewives who'll slit your throat over a pair of True Religions. War wounds aside, I'm happy...and rockin' my new kicks. read more

The Hello Kitty Retro 80s Prom last night was good times. It was $15 a ticket, reasonable I guess. That ticket only provided admission, but most real proms are the same way. I guess the only thing missing was the punch and buffet table. There was a crappy 80s cover band and a small area to dance (which never really took off), a long line to get into the gift shop, an interesting art gallery, game booths which required tickets ($2-$10 each, most were $2). There was also miniature golf and a mini ferris wheel that also required tickets. The food truck selection outside was meh, and the Grilled Cheese Truck didn't appear at 11:30 outside like promised. But all of that aside, I had a fantastic time with my friends taking pictures inside HK cars, against HK backdrops, and making HK sandart. Yogurtland was there giving out free insulated totes, and a HK character posed for pictures. It was fun checking everyone out - lots of cute outfits. So many cute girls. No guys, obviously. I hope Small Gift has more themed parties in the future. Also a big high five to whoever handled restroom rentals - it was MUCH appreciated to have luxurious portable restroom trucks rather than portapotties. How could I resist? Hello Kitty? Carnival? Little did I know that elementary school carnival + hello kitty = sanrio small gift I really do mean elementary because all the games and events were so underwhelming and crappy. I expected a lot more from a multimillion dollar corporation... The event itself didn't seem very polished or that they put a lot of effort into it. First off..yes parking is $10 and there is NO way of getting around that. Secondly there is NO admission fee but you will have to pay $$$ to do ANYTHING once inside. Looking is free, naturally. In order to do anything, you have to buy tickets at a booth. 1 ticket = $2 and the most basic games cost $2. Mini golfing = almost $10 Food wise, there is a stand inside or you can go to a designated section with food trucks. Which food trucks will be at the event varies greatly. Yogurtland and Beard Papas both have a stand. The Yogurtland stand, however, charges $5 flat fee. Cruel...so cruel. The little art exhibit is interesting to walk through and the pop-up shop had lots of expensive items I could care less about. It doesn't carry normal Sanrio store items...so I was greatly disappointed. $40 for an iphone case? NO THANK YOU! I felt sorry for ALL the girls who dragged their poor boyfriends here. They must have hated it SOO much. I bet even little kids were disappointed. Overall this place was a HUGE let down. Once the novelty wears off (and it wears off FAST) there is NOTHING to do here. Once or twice a year Barney's New York holds their wherehouse sale here at the Santa Monica Airport...you'll have to call them up, Barney's that is, to find out exactly when it occurs. OR, if you happen to own a Barney's charge card, they'll let you know via snail mail on a little post card so ya don't forget. Advice: Wear something THIN! lol There's no dressing room people so men and women, you'll be standing in the middle of a big room trying on clothes. lol So a sports bra and spandex shorts or a skirt you can hike up are recommended for the ladies. Men, well...you're kinda S.O.L. on trying on pants lol. Some good bargains to be had...get there early on the first day before everything gets picked through or you'll be sorry you made the drive down there. read more

For serious....I think the hanger sale is just teasing me this year.... No sizes, the shoe selection for men was minimal, and boring boring boring clothes! (AND I WAS THERE ON THE FIRST DAY!!!!) Also, there was this one Surface 2 Air sweatshirt that was mocking me....seemingly every rack I searched, had it...but all too big!!!!!! I would get momentarily excited...then, my heart will hit the floor when the size read L or XL.... I did manage to pick up a Nice Collective Jacket (buried under a mound of crap!), a Nice Collective shirt, a Rogue Gallery shirt, and a pair of Onitsukas.... So, overall, great bargains if you can find it and are willing to wait in the 45 min. line to pay....but, really not what it use to be... =( read more

Call me crazy, but I didn't think this sale was that great. Sure, you can make off like a bandit with some high end couture for about a quarter on the dollar, but the size selection is ridiculous. Los Angeles has too many people who wear the same size and if you're anywhere near that spectrum you won't find much. No jeans, not the greatest shoe selection (especially, again, if you're an average size, ie, 6-7). For all the digging, I'd almost rather just pay retail. That said, I found a great dress for a quarter of the retail price and several premium items for the boyfriend. read more

It was NOT what I expected. I'm such a Sanrio fan, HUGE Sanrio Fan, but this wasn't for me. If I were under 10, I'm sure I would've enjoyed it a bit more. Awesome that it was free during the week, minus the $10 even parking. Cute blow up rainbow entrance, cute Sanrio map, but man was it empty! And I'm not talking crowd wise, but as far as attractions go - besides the big floaty heads, it seemed like a small family fund raiser fair - or something. There were little game stands, with little flimsy prizes, I mean, it was really disappointing! Maybe opening night would've been more thrilling? The foods and snacks weren't even Sanrio themed! They had a bearded papas stand, but it was just a logo that incorporated Hello Kitty. I don't know man, I was really sad about how quiet this event was. I've spent so much money throughout my life and THIS is the thanks I get? LOL. The mini golf was cute, but again, most of the decor were in little glass display boxes! MEH. They only had ONE character dressed up that night! ONE! :( SAD. AND, the shop they had set up there was pretty disappointing as well - everything was SO overpriced - I swear, Target's Dollar section was more exciting. Ok ok so I give this 4 stars! Why you ask....Well let me tell you!!! No matter how old I get I feel like a kid when I see Sanrio stuff. I personally enjoyed the event since I got a Keroppi hat and a couple of prizes..lol hey what can I say? ;-) The games were only a handful I expected more. The food was a good selection and yummy. The line to go into the Sanrio store was super long & not worth the wait so I passed on that. There was a cute Ferris wheel that I would have got on but...well....I don't know why I didn't. The decoration was super cute. The art work was amazing. The best was taking a picture with THE Hello Kitty herself.lol. All in all I had a GREAT time brought back good memories and I do recommend it. I must say though DON'T EXPECT TO WALK INTO DISNEYLAND and you wont be disappointed! Photo LA! January 9 - 11, 2009. Santa Monica's annual exhibition of international photographers and galleries were showcased this weekend at the Barker Hangar. Overwhelming as always. Great selection of new, old, traditional and modern photographs to be mesmerized by and wishing there were enough funds in your bank account to pick up a little print. Barker Hangar was a good choice to host this year's show (previously held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium pre-2007). The space was large enough to include the participating galleries, the crowd of photographers, collectors, and everyone and anyone interested in photography, and a small "cafe" and eating area. Nevermind the planes flying overhead... kind of added to the creative vibe. Only drawback was the $10 parking fee... really? read more

I had the privilege of attending The Critic's Choice Movie Awards 2013 at this venue. There is always something cool and eclectic about a hangar, which would make any event a special one. The large overhead space is necessary to prevent claustrophobia . The venue restrooms are small & dated. For this event, they added Star Trailer Restrooms so you know more restrooms are needed for a big event. read more

First time at Barker Hangar... huge space, understand why so many events go on here. I was there for 25% off mens wear day. Things were cheaper but still not cheap. And there are nooooo dressing rooms. I actually put on a skirt so that i coudl take off my jeans to try on a pair of their jeans, my partner in crime thought i was a genius, which I am so that was all good. read more

SO RANDOM!!!! Went to the Adidas tent sale over the weekend and it was just BAH! The line wrapped around the whole inside, it was just weird. I have heard of the other sales they host here and I guess I'll have to go another one, something that is more organized because this was just like "I don't even know what's going on right now?!?!?!" I do think they should host a HUGE ass club like party (some project X type shit haha) that would be awesome and I would totally come to that !!!! && that's it :] !!!!!!!! read more

Ehh... I don't know how to rate this place. It's either this place sucks, or it's the people hosting the event here that sucks. Anyways, I was here for the weekend. There was a jewelry show being held by a company named Intergem. First of all, the place so big did not have proper working restaurants. They rented portable restrooms and put them outside. There were only 3 working restrooms for the entire building (inside). I'm guessing the show had maybe 150 exhibitors with 1-2 employees each. That's 300 people in the building with 3 half set restrooms that suddenly worked and don't work. What happens when the customers come in to walk? Well, everyone was asking for restrooms. Parking was a disaster. A lot of people couldn't find parking and left, I would have done the same. read more
