I've been coming here for a year and have always had a great experience with Nestor. However when I went to book an appointment today I saw he has been removed from their website. I called up to ask details about where he went and the person on the phone claims to not know. A proactive email letting me know Nestor is no longer employed would have been appreciated, rather than act like the guy never existed. I understand people move on, but a barber is sort of a personal experience and when you settle into a guy who knows how to do it great, it sucks trying to find someone new and start from scratch. read more

The best in town, hands down. It's a Chicago level cut in the suburbs - each of the 3 barbers are fantastic and I've been to each of them multiple times. It's rare you can go into a barber shop and just roll the dice. They won't talk to you unless you talk - so if you're having a day and just want some peace and quiet they'll leave you be - but they will get really engaged if you do want to talk. Stepan (pronounced Stephan) is the owner and he's a local guy. The effort he puts into keep a clean shop and keeping his customers happy is very obvious - it's easy to see his gifts as a business owner and barber. They also are the only ones in the area to sell Layright hair products and lower than you can get on Amazon. I've been to all the local barbers over the last few years and these guys are a cut above. Big fan of The Barbers in HP! Good clean shop with restored vintage barber equipment - Stephan the owner really has a great eye for that stuff. Racheal has been our barber since 2018. I was looking for someone as solid as my barber back in Long Beach, and that's a pretty high bar. Very glad I found the shop and her. Additionally - my boys get their haircuts at The Barbers too. One of them has some pretty significant sensory issues and haircuts are NOT fun for him. Rachael always engages him directly and with respect, and is patient when he kinda freaks out sometimes. My son does not like going to a salon geared towards women. He is 10 and likes his hair to be long, surfer cut. I called ahead and asked if they do long hair or did they only do shorter styles. I was assured they do longer hair styles. Wanted to be sure since it is a barber. Well unfortunately the Barber cut it short, not a surfer cut/Bob like I asked. I even showed a picture of what we wanted. As soon as I saw he was going too short, he blocked my view for a bit - it was too late. Well, at least it's not a tattoo, it will grow back and he can always wear a baseball cap until then. The last time his hair has been this short was when he was a toddler. The cut itself is not that great, he looks like a combo of John Daly and Dorthy Hamill. I now have to take him somewhere to get it fixed. I think if you like a traditional barber cut, this place is fine. If you want a longer style go elsewhere. I just wish they had told me they don't cater to longer style requests. Moving from Atlanta to Chicago, I was on the hunt for a new barbershop and, more importantly, a new barber, who not only would cut my hair on point but could help me with figuring out when to make tweaks and when it made sense totally to change it up. I am fast forward to a few Ls up and down the North coast, discovering THE BARBERS in Highland Park; this is the best barbershop in the area. I have been to other barbershops nearby, and none compare to this one. Great quality haircuts, solid product selection, and the staff are always friendly and attentive to each person. But like any barer shop, you have your go-to barber, and mine is Rachel. Over the last few years, Rachel has been my guide to figuring out what looks good, how to style my hair, and how well, look my best. Thanks to the mobile app, I am always able to lock in Rachel, and with her availabilities on Sundays, it is my go-to activity to relax and kick back and chop it up with not only a great barber but one heck of a music and movie buff. When I read about the grand opening of The Barbers, I saw a cool-looking barbershop that had the right amount of chic edge and local barbershop feel. My husband has been thinking of switching things up so I recommended The Barbers. He easily made an appointment. Set up as a sophisticated man cave (my husband's words, not mine) this place is a man's destination for a cut. Hubby liked that it was relaxed and cool at the same time. Hubby came back with a terrific cut that made me happy. And he was happy with then service he received. Next time, I'm sending all my men there. (They cut boys' hair, too.) I've been coming to the Barbers since I moved back into the area in March of 2015. I had been using another real barber closer to where I was living, and enjoyed the experience much more than a supercuts or great clips. Brought my son in for his first official barbershop haircut. We typically go to a salon, but this time around my son wanted his hair cut short on the sides like his dad (who also had his hair cut here recently). The Barbers means business. This is where you come if you want a precise, short cut and want to be treated like a man...even if you're a kid. Dimitri (sp?) gave my kiddo a very detailed precise cut. He was patient, he took his time and got up close with great care. He was also very patient with us while we took pictures. No hair wash like the salon, just get in the chair and go for it. Cash only, and they have children's prices through age 11. Sorry, I thought I took a photo of the price sheet, but I think kid cuts are under $20. Dimitri is a total sweetheart. Bring a photo in if you have something in mind. He asked for one, but my son just let him do his thing. I've been coming here for years and still choose to come here, even though I live in West Loop, because I have yet to find a barbershop that understands how to cut my hair as well as these guys. Even when I was in college, I could not find a single barbershop in my college town that came close to this place. You can tell from the aesthetic of the shop how much work Stepan has put in to build this place up. I've gotten my hair cut by all the barbers here, but Rachael is definitely my favorite. I came across an article in the local paper about a small independent place and the description was so appealing I made an appointment for my husband to check it out. I was curious so I tagged along. Located on Sheridan Road, within the wonderful walkable HP downtown, we found the cutest barber shop we have ever seen. It felt like we traveled back in time - the cozy space, the décor, the nicely restored antique chairs, antique cash register... Keeping with the theme, The Barbers only accept cash. The prices are very reasonable and the menu is clearly posted by the entrance. The theme and services offered is geared towards the gentlemen, although ladies would not be turned away. I was greeted by a heavily bearded man with deep set green eyes; brandishing a kind accent, and a warm smile. Take a seat, When it comes to a haircut I'm used to the obligatory welcome/politeness and a quick as possible disconnected experience. Upon asking what I would like Stepan gets to work; carefully, precisely barbering away. As time progresses you come to realize that the result really matters to the wielder of tools much like to an artist wielding the brush on his canvas, it's personal. Upon asking for feedback he quickly receives my comments and applies them without hesitation, or the aggravation that we know all too well. He continued by finishing off the cut with a relaxing hot towel. It has been said, "Hair brings one's self-image into focus; it is vanity's proving ground. Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices." And, "Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a barber you like. Just recently made an appointment with Stephan after being referred here by a friend. I was on time for my 4:30 appointment and was seated immediately upon walking in. With it being my first time there, Stephan asked about the style of cut I'd like and after a short intro he was off to work. The precision he possesses while cutting your hair is excellent. I have not seen a barber as meticulous and adamant in getting you the cut you want. He finished it off with a straight razor neck shave and I was out. The shop itself has a great barber shop feel with good conversation going and nothing felt overbearing. The other barbers seemed excellent as well. I've been going here about a year. Stephan has always cut my hair. It's $26, no frills hair cut. No wash like at a salon, and the place has been getting more and more business, so walk-ins are a roll of the dice. I've made appointments every time. The first few haircuts were nice. Even as I sat in the chair and new people came into the shop, I delivered endorsements with things like, I really like this place and they're personable, etc. One time Stephan said "thank you" as I was promoting his business in a credible way. It was nice to see a business grow from humble beginnings to something more, and being a part of it was satisfying. Over time things got weird. I would notice that my hair was uneven - I would be told that it's the way my hair grows. Fine, it's still a $30 (with tip) hair cut. I bought products from them - I didn't really *need* them, but it was a way to support a local business. Over time I became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of my cut, and there was always this implication that there was nothing anyone would be able to do about it - I'm talking about straight bangs here. Many times however, regardless of whether I thought he could have done a better job, I thanked him, tipped him and left him with the impression that I was satisfied - although, every time I got home, I would look in the mirror and see the uneven cut. This happened more often than not. If I shared the details of the last couple of visits, it would clearly identify me to Stephan and I'm not interested in that. What I can most assuredly conclude is that this guy does not know how to handle customers. One time there was a misunderstanding, and he folded his arms and scolded me. The language and attitude gave me pause. I've been a business professional for 40 years and was simply taken aback at the weird responses - so weird that I had to ask myself if I was somehow not understanding the sequence of events. It was like I should feel lucky to have my hair cut here - like it was a favor or something. I considered that maybe I was being too particular or demanding, so as a litmus test, I explained my most recent experiences to a couple of "even keel" colleagues and even my grown daughters, looking for the "well, give 'em a break" kind of answer. What I got from them instead was "you need to find another place". I accept that this town has its share of complaining patrons - I move heaven and earth to make sure that I don't come off that way. That's why I put up with this for so long. But these last two events were so egregious, that I cannot pay to be treated the way I've been treated. And so it goes - I'll never go back there, and I will share these experiences with my friends and cronies in HP. read more

I came into the Barbers as I wanted a nice haircut without the fanfare of shampoo, conditioner, etc. I keep my hair pixie short and color my hair myself, so I just need a haircut ever 4 weeks. Rachel cut my hair and it was the best haircut I ever had. It has been 5 weeks and it still looks good. She offered to tone my hair also as she can do everything with hair. Rachel is super talented and I would highly recommend her and the Barbers. Price was very reasonable and worth every penny! Parking is super easy, and free for 2 hours. Before coming here I typically went to Korean places. Too bad I have the Korean language skills of a 5 year old. So I could never fully communicate what I wanted and they were always more prone to Asian hairstyles. Coming here was a big relief because I could finally tell them what I wanted. They treat you well and pay close attention to the details. It's not an in and out ordeal but they really make sure that it's a perfect haircut.
